Besides, news companies try to make it seem like all hell has broken lose, but they only rarely publish good hearted stories, and only do so after a nice week of hell so people will be all like 'awww'.

Though it hasn't happened, the closest thing would have to be anything bad from 4chan, as well as just general hating on people. Though, its hard to lose hope in humanity. Especially after watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

I was 11 years old when 9-11 hit, and in the years following, I learned about the Holocaust and other such atrocities. It seemed the more I learned about what people were capable of, the more I learned to hate them.
Stuff like that is why I prefer television to real life.
