This is the kind of thread I like, so here goes:
Political Correctness: not the run of the mill kind (that is, being generally polite really), but the newer, more lethal kind that's came about in recent years. The kind that says words such as "blackboard", "brainstorm" and "retard" are somehow deemed to be too offensive to say. As it is obviously extremely offensive to call a large board that just so happens to be black as a blackboard. There's nothing more annoying than being told I can't use a certain word. I'm afraid I won't buy that until I actually find myself physically incapable of uttering the word in question.
Inconsequential sob-stories on the news: You know the kind, the ones that appear on the news, usally being the focus of the entire broadcast for at least a week and feature some poor soul (most likely a very young child) has probably copped it in someway. For some reason we are all meant to feel some kind of regret over the tragic loss of someone we have never even known. On a related note, just as infuriating are the people who, when they see such a sob story, react with stock phrases such as "that's awful" or "oh no" in a tone that would normally be reserved for having your house burnt down or being made redundant with no severance pay. If this is how people react to a random news story, what are they like when they encounter a real problem in their lives?
Todays "Compensation Culture" - I hate the way in which people are encouraged to claim against someone (usually their employer) for every tiny little accident that happens to them. Listen people, it wasn't the company's fault that you fell on your ass, it's your own damn fault for not seeing the large yellow wet floor sign and just walking straight across.
People that can't just be tolerant of others beliefs, especially when it's to the point where said people feel the need to make continued efforts to completely deconstruct said beliefs. That goes for people on any side of the religious "divide".
To reiterate a previous comment, those people with insane amounts of "friends" on social networking sites. Great, so you have 400-odd people on your friends list. How many of them do you actually know exactly?
Adverts - there a lot of adverts that get my goat. Ads asking you to give blood. Those Muller ads with that terrible song. The ones for debt consolidation firms.
Speaking of ads, I also hate how easy it is for people to complain about ads these days. All it takes is just one - ONE! - uptight person to complain for an advert to get pulled. What a dreadful world we live in.
That's all for now, though I could probably manage more later.
