Things That Should Be Seen At Least Once For Their Uniqueness Alone

I'll take the David Lynch train in this thread in a different direction and suggest Lost Highway. It's a very simple film once you "get" what it's about, but its one hell of a mindfuck the first time you see it.

For games, I'd suggest Deadly Premonition. It's pretty horrible as a game, but succeeds at being a hilariously bizarre horror comedy.

I'll show my David Lynch fanboy side and again go with one of his works for television, Twin Peaks. Even with the quality drop in the second season, it ranks up there as one of the most daring and original pieces of television ever envisioned. Shame it got cancelled so soon.

If you want a unique anime, watch Star Driver. Most fabulous anime you will ever see, I laughed my ass off every episode at the antics of the Galactic Pretty Boy and his buddies.

Since Eraserhead has been taken, I'd go with Lars Von Trier's 'Anti-Christ.' It's similar to Eraserhead, in that it is another abstract horror movie. It's also... one of the most thoroughly disturbing pieces of cinema ever. If you don't feel uncomfortable at any point during that movie, you have no soul, and that's a proven fact.

Here's the trailer:
You know, I really wanted to like that film. I just couldn't after watching it, it felt like an incredible piece of horror cinema that could potentially redefine the genre was being trapped within a cross between an arthouse film and psycho drama. Great imagery and mood, but ultimately the film's few spectacular moments couldn't redeem it from merely average territory.

Yellowstone, full of mountains, geysers, and valleys. Truly refreshingly new for someone who grew up in cities.

So, something like A Scanner Darkly, for its rotoscoping? Or Scorpion King 3, because it's awesome? Or perhaps Amélie, for its style, charm, and humor?
Fuck yes on A Scanner Darkly. I didn't want to say that one because I figured I talk about it too much (Among the five things I talk about too much on The Escapist). Also agreed on Amélie. I might just watch Scorpion King 3 now because of your talking about it so much.

Sin City (technically not unique because The Spirit exists, but that sucked so just see this one)
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (very fun movie that also has a unique visual style)
The Tracey Fragments (perhaps the most unique out of the bunch, sometimes splitting the screen up a dozen times)
I haven't seen the Tracey Fragments, myself, but I remember it being reviewed back on Ebert & Roeper years ago, and I wanted to see it because of the unique film style, and I own Scott Pilgrim on Blu-Ray and I loved Sin City, so no arguments there.

Fact: I almost passed out during the third act. I have pretty good constitutions/reservations, so for any movie to make me nearly faint due to its tense (and sadly, beautiful) 3rd act, it has to be recognized. I didn't mention this one because I felt everybody talked enough about it at some point, and I didn't want to be that guy.

We Are The Strange is a bizarre little film that I have no desire to see ever again, but it's worth watching once, if only to see how visually striking it gets at times. It's just not very compelling, with the exception of the CG character Blue, who you sort of feel bad for throughout the movie.
There used to be photographic evidence of me on his [M.Dot Strange - The Director's] website with my copy of this movie in my hands. I even wrote a review for the movie that he posted on his website, which was glaringly positive. In Hindsight, I was rather stupid in my youth, but it sure felt awesome to be part of a cult, I'll say that much. The Kool-aid doesn't taste so sweet now that I go back, but I'd agree with you on that one too. Watch it once, if the epilepsy doesn't set in first, and watch it once.

Flying into Amsterdam and seeing NO hills for as far as the eye could see.

It's fucking crazy.

Amsterdam? Hah! If you want flat, boring, hill less land, look no further than North Dakota

I see your North Dakota and I raise you one Norfolk. Shit is flat.

I'm sorry, I love my country but I just can't get my head around Norfolk.

OT: Everyone should see Memento, if only to scratch their heads in confusion afterwards.

Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds should be heard... by everyone. No excuses.

Everyone should read J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarillion, just so they can say they did... and act all superior-like.

I would say Alice, which is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland with stop-motion. It is rather unsettling at times. The White Rabbit is a stuffed rabbit that keeps losing its stuffing. The whole production is rather impressive and will stay with you.
where do you find it?

All in Virginia. And Kittyhawk North Carolina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitty_Hawk,_North_Carolina
Are all places you should see if you like history.
Hey, I've been to most of these places! And I'm English. Probably one of the most mindblowing experiences I had when i was there was watching the blacksmith. Making nails. So simple and yet so cool. Being English though I found it way, waaaay too hot. Christ, how do you Americans stand it?

Ooh, I get to use this image again!

Watch: Neon Genesis Evangelion

The most influential anime of all time excluding any other, more influential ones. Many "Internet" "celebrities" saw it in their formative years and it shaped them into the horrible people they are today.

Play: Okami
You probably already did, but I'm a relatively generic, bandwagon-y kinda dude.

Read... People still read? Duh...I feel obligated to recommend manga or something, but all I could do is recommend manga I haven't read but others have recommended to me. I'll take a pass on this one.

Listen: Matryoshka
You caught me at a bad time. This song is from what, 2010? I didn't discover it until four days ago. A little behind the curve on this one, and I'm still riding the weirdness-high. So if this is undeserving, I apologize.

And on that downer note, I'm off!

Surprisingly many rental places have it in foreign or indie section. It is also available on youtube.

No fair. Your picture is from higher up.

OT: Everyone should go to Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota. Who ever thought that a drug store would sell you a stuffed jackalope or scare the shit out of you with an anomatromic dinosaur.

Another convert. Let me know how much you love it after you see it.

The scale is between "really loved" and "really loved," by the way. =D
