The first time I was playing the first two Halo games, my friend skipped all the cut-scenes so I had no idea what the story was... so I thought Master Chief was a robot.

I played Mystic Quest (Final Fantasy USA) since I was pre-Kindergarten age. I could always make it up to the ice area or ice dungeon or whatever it is but couldn't make it any further than that. I got the game again about 3 or so years ago but it wasn't until last year that I finally figured out that (A) you can move the giant ice blocks and (B) You can jump from ice-block to ice-block to complete that area. Still proud to have beaten that game despite the fact that I couldn't until I hit my 20's.

I recently figured out that the reason Wario is called what he is because of word play. The Japanese for bad is warui, so warui + Mario = Wario. He is bad Mario same goes for Waluigi and Luigi. I just presumed for ages they just flipped the M vertically to a W but now I realise it was a bit smarter than that.

*Raises hand*

The worst bit of level design in any of the 16-bit Sonics, I daresay. Introduce a new gameplay element without explaining it and expect the player to psychically guess how it works. I spent like a day trying to hammer it down with Bubble Shield spam, and ended up glitching into the wall... and speaking to other former Megadrive owners, I know of at least two people who just stopped playing the game at that point.

In Dragonball Z, anyone that is related to Frieza has a name relating to cold. Like King Cold, Cooler and Chilled. So humiliating when it hit me one day at work.
All the Saiyans are named for vegetable puns. And in the original Dragon Ball manga, All of King Piccolo's corrupted spawn (piccolo being a wind instrument) are named after instruments. Tambourine, Drum, Piano and Cymbal.

Anyway, to make this game related, I've gotten back into DBZ Tenkaichi 2. The way Goku's Spirit Bomb ultimate attack works in this one is that you can use a blast stock ability that makes him put his hands in the air and say "share your energy with me". You have to do this as well as reaching max power to use the attack, unlike previous games.

So I was playing a duel and I realized. When he does the "share your energy with me" thing, the spirit bomb actually appears in the sky, like it did when he charged it fighting Frieza. On top of that, if the fight lasts long enough for you to get enough blast stocks, you can use "share your energy with me" three times in total, making the Spirit Bomb bigger and bigger.

I do wonder if it could KO a character in one hit with a full charge... I bet it's more powerful than other ultimate attacks.

I at least knew those, give a guy SOME credit. Even if I missed Friezas ones. XD

I didn't know how to change Ryus forms in Marvel vs Capcom 1. It took me 1 week of practice to get the inputs down and even now I can only do it 10% of the damn time.

Took me waaaaay too long to realize Harley Quinn is named Harley Quinn because it sounds like "harlequin."
Same here, I only realised it when at some point during Arkham Aslyum someone says her name quickly. I felt so stupid. It also took me way too long to see how the D in the Disney logo actual is a D. I though it looked like some weird backwards G.

There is an audio store in my neighbourhood called Trutone (pronounced True Tone). The sign had a set of headphones over the 'o' for style purposes. As the headphones put emphasis on the 'o' it made me think for the longest time that the name of the store was Trut One.

For a brilliant person I can be really dense.

The most embarrassing one for me was all the way back in high school. I had a friend who was an extremely talented singer, and she and I and a bunch of friends were going out for the night, all loaded up into one of our parents mini vans. The girl was talking about doing a performance at a cultural show.

Now living in Winnipeg, Canada our native community is quite large. I'd been to this girls house, I knew her mother and all her siblings.

When she said she was going to sing for the aboriginal show I blurted out, "What, you're native? Since when?"

... Yeah. I never noticed, over all those years. One of the dumbest things to ever come out of my mouth.

Aaaannd I finally got my own account instead of using my sister IndomitableSam's all the time.

It took me forever to realize I was supposed to...

throw the freaking bomb, not just place it in SNES Link to the Past

Puzzles seem so easy after you know the secret. But I'd made it through the whole game up to that point with doing this thing and forgot it was even something I could do!!!!

DOH!

Anyway, did you ever have a similar moment in an old video game that took you years or decades to finally and suddenly realize? I guess the closest thing to that for me was that dumbass level in Sonic 3 Carnival Night Zone. Where you have to make the cylinder thing go up and down so you can sneak through. It took me like two years to figure out that you can control it with the up and down arrows, and when I did, I kinda just felt like a moron. Still, I don't think I'm the only one in that boat. So tell me your revelations with Mario tapes and such. Unless they're spoilers, then don't tell me that shit.
You're not the only one in that boat. Me and several others I know got stuck at the exact same part for years. That mechanic is never explained or used before then... how's a little kid supposed to figure it out!?!

Also, fuck the volcano level in Lion King. I could never get past that thing.

I was convinced that Skyrim was set in an alternate universe earth, During the middle ages. And one the other day i was playing, it was night and i looked up

"Holy shit, Two moons"

Turns out, I'm a moron who doesn't pay the slightest attention to lore, Because all my friends laughed at me for it...

Yeah, same. It is a weird backward G dammit! The secret of eating with chopsticks eluded for a while as well.

Took me ages to figure out that you could holster weapons in Fallout 3. I knew from loading screen tips that you ran slower with guns drawn, but I figured it was just the price I paid for... having a gun drawn? Wasn't until a friend was over and he told me to hold down the reload button that I even knew it was a thing.

Similarly in Fallout, that same friend had to tell me that I could hold the Use key and continuously drink from fountains/lakes - I had been doing sip by sip with single button presses.

That game really needs a button-holding tutorial or something.

Goddammit, yes. Once you know how to get past it, it's no problem. Until then, though? It will grind the pace of the game to a dead halt.
Geez, I hated that thing.

Haha Commander Keen, that brings back some childhood memories. It took me a good 10 years before I realised that it was faster to drift around corners in Mario Kart 64.
I didn't realize you could do that until I played the DS version.

Well, since we're on the topic of Commander Keen, I have no idea how many times I played that game before I figured out you can kill Vorticons with your blaster. I always thought they were invulnerable. But getting through under their crazy jumping antics made for a more intense experience anyway, so that was cool too.

Ah, the glorious days of shareware.
Well, isn't there one of those statue levels that gives you a message of not being able to use your gun against the Vorticon? I think it only refers to the very last one you encounter that you have to get past a different way, but I could see how maybe that would make you think you couldn't shoot them. Those things used to literally terrify me, but then again, so did purple balloons v:

That was how you got past it? I only played the game on a gamecube version of sonic mega collection but could never get past that part! Time to replay it i guess. :p

Edit: Can you also tell me what the book says please? My OCD demands that i must know(pm me or something).
Yeah, it's stupid because they don't teach you or require you to use that mechanic ANYWHERE ELSE in the game! And yeah, here's what I think it says.

"KANT", like Immanuel Kant. Cause he's an 8-year-old genius, and that's so what he would read.

Took me ages to figure out the Game Freak logo is a G and not a spiral/fossil/dildo/fish/surfboard etc.

To be fair, probably the reason you didn't understand what it said when you were younger is you probably weren't very exposed to him at that time, so the reference wouldn't make sense.

That doesn't excuse thaluikhain or Sherokain, though. XD
