The Soul Reaver series made me look up the meaning of lots of long words, while I found out fairly recently that a large amount of time spent playing L4D on Expert offline has made me rather good at getting head shots; so in the forthcoming zombie apocalypse I'll be very eloquent when I'm killing stuff. :D

Oh, please don't take that the wrong way. I didn't mean to insult you, I only wanted to make sure you don't go around "herp derp look at all the guns I know! Every bolt-action rifle is an Artic Warfare herp derp." I meant no offense to you, I was only pointing out the fact that CoD actually un-educates the masses.

Saving, loading, and restarting maybe messed up my life. I can't do things in reality so scared of making the wrong choice, but in video games I feel so much more free with being able to take back my decisions or start over all again. Even in games like Witcher one where my decisions may have horrible results hours later, I can always restart the game or just remember it is jut virtual not real people who suffer the consequences.

My route-memory and navigation have been trained by my time spent playing games. It takes me between one and three trips to a new location before I've memorized how to get there, since that's about how long I would spend getting owned on new FPS maps before I figured out where all the important stuff was. Similarly, I can fill in route gaps if I'm in an area I don't really know, but know where I want to get. And if both of those fail, it's just plain handy to be able to read a map when I'm lost thanks to games using so many of them. Minus the convenient, constantly updating, "You are here" character marker.

I guess I could just get a GPS, but I suppose I enjoy doing some things the old fashion way.

i've had conversations where people have argued that mentioning raiding in WOW as a hobby during a job interview would demonstrate commitment and the ability to work as part of team and would thus be advantageous...

those people were wrong tho.

Yeah, I've heard that one before. Gets me every time. You might be committed to the guild, buddy, but the girlfriend who left you and the pet cat who starved to death because you played too much? Yeah, you weren't all that committed to them.

Although I do type much faster for having played MMOs.

Games have given me my life motto:

If you ever get attacked by a giant rat, you have roughly 10 minutes before you need to start thinking about how you're going to spend your skill points.

I wouldn't say it is due to gaming, but I tried shooting at the range before. I can handle the recoil and I like shooting, but I find it hard to aim down the sights and I can't really hold it steady at all. I'd go more often if I wasn't deaf the whole time I was there.

Gaming helped me learn to count time when I was little and made me want to read, it's all because of the original Paper Mario and how angry the cooking sections with Peach made me.

Faster reflexes, better spacial awareness, better navigation skills, and im not sure if
this is the result of me playing rts games or vice versa but i'm very good at predicting and anticipating possible outcomes of situations especially situations were violence is involved.

Also I kind of learned history from playing age of empires. PRobably completely inaccurate but better than nothing at all.

The most important lessons of my life was taught to me by fps games. How to accept failure, and how to recognize when winning or loosing wasn't because of me.

ANd after countless hours playing horror games i've become much better at staying calm when something scary and unexpected happens. YEs, even irl. (not that i was ever bad at it)

Edit: and I'm pretty sure video games taught me english. All i know is I spoke english fluently when i was 8 years old and i can't remeber why so im guessing it was video games.

Edit edit: oh and fast reAding.

...Oh video games, i would be such a lesser person without you. Thank you for only being awful 85 % of the time.

I feel that MGS has improved my sneaking skills, but I haven't had any significant proof yet. Minecraft has shortened my attention span by taking up such a large part of my brain, and playing Fallout 3 lately has given me kleptomaniac instincts. All well worth it, though.
