Here are some things I've learned from reading the underside of caps on bottles of Snapple -
- Seals sleep for one and a half minutes at a time
- You need to play ping-pong for 12 hours to lose 1 pound
- A hummingbird's heart beats 1400 times each minute

Here is a few I know:

Coruscant first appeared in the Expanded Universe, In Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel nearly ten years before episode one

In the Star Wars films, whenever a character says "I Have a Bad Feeling About This," something very bad always happens after

yes I am a HUGE star wars fan

and finally a not star wars based one:

Heavy Metals creation was practically an accident, Black Sabbath Guitarist Tony Iommi had the tops of two of his fingers sliced of in a freak accident on his last day of work, this caused to tune his guitar lower to take some pressure of his fingers and caused heavy metals signature sound that devloped it into the awesome music it is today

You eat approximately 8 spiders in your sleep, either per year or in your lifetime, I cant remember the exact timescale.

The earliest known recipe for lasagne was originally found to be an English dish.

You can't sneeze with your eyes open.

Porcupines will float in water.

Dueling is legal in Paraguay, so long as both parties are blood donors.

(Mammals can't imbibe salt-water for any long period of time)

Eskimos have only 4 words for snow.
Someone has been watching QI :D. That show kicks ass.

You weigh more in a vacuum than in normal conditions on earth.

There is no such thing as centrifugal force.

Steam is a lighter-than-air gas (assuming both gases are at the same temperature and pressure).
The first two points are not really true.

1) Your mass is the same regardless of what you are in (in Classical physic anyway). Your weight, ie the reading you get when you stands on the scales, is in fact the reaction force exerted by the springs in the scales, probably measured by strain gauges. So that depends on the gravity field you are in, and doesn't depend on the atmosphere around you.

2) There most certainly is a centripetal force though [for example, when you spin something heavey on the end of a string, then the tension in the string can be worked out with F = mv^2 / r ]. This is what most people are thinking of when they say centrifugal force.

I was intrigued by the point about steam being lighter than air; but it's true (!)

The spokes in your bicycle wheel are pre-stressed in tension, so when you are sitting on the bike, it's actually reduces the stress in the spokes! Because you are compressing them between your body and the ground. If the spokes were not pre-stressed, your bike wheel would collapse the moment you sit on your bike.

Singapore was built on marshland. The soil in which all those sky scrappers were built are actually very similar to toothpaste in terms of properties.

You are more likely to DESERVE to get attacked by a shark if you are swimming while dressed like a clown.

In Sweden, if a man kisses a woman against her will, it is legel for her to bite his nose off.
Read that a couple of years ago, so it might have been changed by now.

That sounds like total bullshit to me.

The part of "developed into the awesome music it is today" anyway.

Hip hop was created when new york city blacked out for 26 hours, when music artist had to find a way to deal with the sudden loss of power.

I read it on the internet, so it MUST be true!!

The Computer "Deep Blue" that beat the grand master at chess. Was named after IBM "the Big Blue" and Deep Thought" the computer from Douglas Adams' Books.
Today Deep Blue is in 2 peices; The first is in a museum, the second in being used to allocate seating arrangements on the planes of a major airline company.

You also cannot sneeze and urinate at the same time. Your body will forcibly stop you until you have sneezed.

Your heart also stops for an eighth of a second when you sneeze. Maybe that's why all the other 'security measures' occur?

If you advance 2001's computer HAL's initials one letter later in the alphabet, you get IBM. Whether this was a coincidence or intentional, I do not know.

And to add to Usnota's Star Wars geekery, Biggs (Sometimes mistranslated into english as Vicks) and Wedge, the recurring names for minor characters in Final Fantasy games, are a Star Wars in-joke, named for Biggs Darklighter and Wedge Antilles - Two pilots who were part of the Death Star attack run with Skywalker.

Argentina Tango was invited when an US GI danced with a local girl, the GI's breath stank, so the local girl kept sharply turning her head away. The onlookers thought it looked like a cool new dance.

Indeed, infact Wedge is one of the only background fighters who survives every spaceship fight he's in. Infact he's even warrented his own comic book series. (I used to live with a MASSIVE Star Wars Geek)
