I realized only recently that the clouds and bushes in Super Mario Bros are the same graphics with different colors.

In Mario Bros, the bushes are just the cloud sprite coloured green.

Also:

In Street Fighter 2, Zangief Cossack dances with Mikhail Gorbachev.

In the Sonic games, Tails' real name is Miles Prower = Miles Per Hour.

In Castlevania, Alucard is Dracula backwards... ok, so that's the worst game "twist" ever.

Remember those "Point of Advice" - blocks from Super Mario World? The ones that look like a purple and orange loudspeaker, and spout some helpful message when you jump at them from below?

Well, I got that game when it was new and played it almost constantly until the PS2 came out, and I only recently noticed that those blocks were supposed to represent a loudspeaker. For countless years, I thought they were just purple boxes with a picture of a pineapple on the side.

And I didn't find this the least bit odd.

This is most likely because I had no idea how things worked in videogames back then, so I was learning the ways of this brave new world as I went along. Enemies die when I jump on them? OK! Mario grabs a poisonous mushroom and grows to double size? Fair enough! Mario can walk on certain clouds? Righto! Pineapple represents knowledge? Sure!

(Incidentally, those clouds you can walk on? For at least a few years, I thought those were teeth. With smiley-faces on them. And, no, this didn't strike me as weird either.)

In 'Banjo Kazooie', the theme music all throughout Grunty's Lair is a twist on the 'Teddy Bear's Picnic' song. Very clever.

Final Fantasy X : I played it loads as a kid, went back and played it now, and realized that Tidus wasn't actually a chick...
Heh...

I liked FFX. It deserves a port more than 7. The Hymn of the Fayth is just beautiful IMO.

---

Did anyone play the Sly Trilogy?

Is it me or did it basically play out as a Furry wet dream?

Probably because my sister is a Furry and I know more about that community that I would like to know.

Then you should also know that we're not all like that. :p
(And it is definitly not a furry wet dream -.-. H-e-l-l no, not in my books anyway.)
Or you've been looking in the wrong places. (Probably since there are people that are well.. what you think they are, I'm not however. I like my sensible brain.)

Anyway, let's not derail here. There are enough drama threads about furries and all, let's not get into that. It's not worth the effort and time.

What have I noticed on games? Well F it. They got a very deep story, usually with alot of things kids do not see (Duh). Like to take Final Fantasy 10 again, there is actually an interesting love triangle going on there (or it's hinted at with Wakka beeing overprotective) and there are also some harsh themes on Religious believes, prosecution, execution, races & discrimination. But kids don't tend to follow on that. Why? Because they have no reference material untill later in life.

THe same thing with movies.
The Lion King for example, a very touching movie. But as a kid you don't think about (or at least I did not) what happens when Simba & Nala get together after the 'Can you feel the love tonight' part. Or that Scar is actually a murdering lion hungry for power and leading a nazi inspired regime of hyena's. Seriously, look it up. Marching Hyena's, in assorted files, the head jerking to the right to look up at Scar whose shadow kind of resembles the eagle of the third reich.

Creepy innit? I find the Disney movies also having a dark side. But you don't notice it unless you pay attention to it and have adequate life experience to put it into context (Like Scar for example and his nazi army of hyena's.)

There are no children in Rollercoaster Tycoon, and yet you hear them laughing.

Kinda creepy.

Hey yea.

And how when you kill people by making a dangerous ride, the only repercussion is that your ride is closed.

You can drown them too.

Not that I ever did that to those annoying lost guests or anything.
*ahem*

That Yoshi is always throwing potential baby Yoshis.

Nurse Joy always says that she hopes to see me again--meaning that she hopes my Pokemon get hurt enough to have to go there.

I never really noticed as a child, but according to a lot of the pokedex entries for pokemon, the pokemon world is much darker (or more real) than the game would have us believe.

Ex. Gengar's pokedex entry from SoulSilver: To steal the life of its target, it slips into the prey's shadow and silently waits for an opportunity.

Or

Chandelure's from White: Being consumed in Chandelure's flame burns up the spirit, leaving the body behind.

Along with many other instances of "prey," "hunt," and other real world animal behaviors.

All of the evil human character names in Crash Bandicoot 1/2 and 3 are puns and relate to the character...

Neo Cortex = Neocortex (Cortex is a smart guy with a big brain)

N. Gin = Engine (Gin is an expert in enginerring and robots)

N. Brio = Embryo (Brio creates creatures)

N. Tropy = Entropy (Tropy messes around with time and generallt screws shit up)

In RPGs, peoples doors are never locked. and they never learn to do so as often as you go through their drawers and chests and taking their stuff.
