I saw one trailer for Bioshock: Infinite and said... well I am already sold because I love Bioshock. I shall avoid all trailers and NOT investigate the crap out of this. My friends tend to investigate everything, before they buy it. I also don't wanna see trailers for EVIL DEAD, besides the one I saw already. Kick ass 2, the same. I know these will be good...or at least verrryyyy ok.

What are some things you don't want ruined by too revealing trailers?

I don't like to see trailers for anything much. I find they either reveal too much or get my hopes up, which are then inevitably dashed. I tend to hunt out the short trailers if I'm curious about something. Trailers seem to be way too long these days, and contain most of the important bits of movie. And game ones are in no way representative, so I ignore them.

Indeed.

Movie trailers are normally even worse than gaming ones, especially comedies, as they tend to show almost all the funny parts. By the time you see the film you have heard the joke so many times it is no longer funny.

Remember movie Island with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson? Remember how it was supposed to be a big reveal when they've found out that there's no Island and that they're a just clons? Remember how trailer just gave it fuck away?!

I'm the same as you. After the first few trailers I haven't watched ANY preview stuff about Bioshock Infinite. I have literally no idea what happens in most of the game now, and I hope to keep that up until I finally get to play it next Monday.

I'm pretty sure CoD trailers give away the whole plot when they show loads of people getting shot. However I don't care because I don't tend to play those for the plot (except BO).

for movies, i only hate when they make it come across EXTREEMELY misleading to how the movie actually is or what it's about (take key scenes here and there and you can make up an ENTIRELY different plot)

otherwise for video games they can go nuts, unless they are falsely advertising info about their game.

Over here it gets released next Tuesday, and I'm not gon' be able to go and pick up my reserved copy until the weekend. I think I might cut myself off from the internet for a few months; accidentally spoiling the plot twist in Bioshock by reading a magazine and accidentally flipping the page to a Bioshock walkthrough still weighs heavy on my mind.

It says it's coming out on the 25th on Steam, we're both British so that's weird. I've checked and the 25th is monday. Perhaps it's getting released a day earlier on PC. Well, I'll get to enjoy my free Xcom: Enemy Unknown in the meantime. I'm certain there's going to be a really big twist for Infinite, so yeah I'm staying the hell away from ANYTHING gaming related Saturday and Sunday.

Yeah, I avoid trailers for a lot of things - Though usually I'll watch the "first" trailer of something. For example, Iron Man 3 - I watched the first trailer, I haven't watched any of the others nor do I intend to, at least until I see the movie. I watched every trailer for The Avengers and regretted it, because the trailers literally show every big scene in them...

And yeah, same with the Bioshock games, the new Star Trek movie, ect. One trailer and I'm done, I'll play it eventually. Basically anything that I already know I'll watch/play I'll avoid trailers for.

GUESS FUCKING WHAT!?
I WAS READING A KOTAKU ARTICLE ABOUT AUDIOSURF AIR!
AND A FUCKING **** POSTED THE BIG TWIST IN THE COMMENTS!
FUCKING FUCK FUCK FUCK!
ARRGGHHH!
I tried so hard to avoid spoilers, it comes out in 4 days so why would there be spoilers now? It was a completely unrelated article. At least I still have the hope that it was completely wrong, since it did sound a bit strange. But still, if it's real then I can't be held back for what I'm going to do!!

I think game trailers are inherently evil. Their sole purpose to draw you in, and are practically a 2 to 5 minute dev jerkoff in a pre-rendered setting, often showing little to no gameplay at all, and can be very deceptive. They are not a good measure of whether you should buy it or not.

I saw a really good looking sci-fi movie trailer starring Tom Cruise (Not the most emotive of actors, but he's good at played a bemused muscley action guy) About earth being a wasteland after a war against... something or other, and people living in orbit trying to slowly reclaim it by destroying all the dangerous weapons and machines left behind after the fighting. Turns out there's a big twist somewhere in the movie. Turns out I now know what it is because it was revealed in the bloody overlong 5 minute trailer!

I'll probably still go and see it, but it's just infuriating that I know what's coming instead of just letting the film tell me in it's own time like it's supposed to.

You are thinking of Oblivion and it looks to be a decent film, although I've not made my mind up on whether I'm going to see it.

You watched a 5 minute trailer, the fuck did you think was going to happen? 5 minutes of not showing anything?
Well I expected a lead in to a storyline; an introduction to a concept... not the entire film condensed to five minutes, main plot spoilers and everything. They don't even bother to hide it, it's just 3 minutes of explosions and action and Tom looking slightly confused, and then Morgan Freeman appears out of nowhere and in two lines states the plot twist: Straight out, then more explosions, Tom screams a bit and the trailer finishes with some explosions.

It's just daft that the advertising people would say "Now that we've enticed everyone with a post apocalyptic sci-fi world and made suggestions of conspiracy and the classic somethings-not-right vibe, let's put in the point at which it's all explained, exposing the point that the entire movie is obviously centred around and ripping out audiences hearts out of their asses. Pass the cocaine."

Completely OT, but this is the first time I hear about Kick-Ass 2 and after watching the trailer I gotta say I'm pretty exited!

Aaaanyway, I like trailers in general. Don't have much else to contribute here I'm afraid.

Is it just me or has this gotten way worse lately? Most trailers that are longer than a minute seem to basically be a summary of the plot.

Basically, what we need is this kind of trailer;

Gee, I wonder how that ends? Or begins? I haven't a fucking clue. Or I wouldn't, if I hadn't read the books and seen the movie already, but you get my point. The trailer actually tells you quite a lot - the tone is dark and primal, there is plenty of intrigue and mystery to the plot, sexuality is addressed unabashedly and the protagonist is an intense and unique individual.

It's okay to give away slightly more than what that trailer gave, but a trailer is about getting you interested, not summarizing the plot.
