What are the shows, games, groups, or activities that you feel the barrier is just too high for you to get into?

D&D I think is a big one universally. The fact that their are entire books of rules and the fact you'll more than likely have to join a group of strangers who might not help you out is a bit much to handle.

inb4 D&D players explain to me how simple the game actually is in it's basic sense.

stand-up comedy.

I have no gimmick and a majority of my "material" is based on religious and racial humor anyway so there is a good chance that I'll get jumpped after being booed offstage xD

The whole prepy groups at my school.

I always wanted to be one but, the thing is that most of them do drugs, get drunk, spend craploads of money, and have sex.

Sorry, I rather be an outcast.

Note: these are prepy students at MY school.

I was once offered to join the "private party" in the back of a shady club that a friend of mine brought me to. I took one look in the door of the back room.

I believe the next words out of my mouth were "FUCK THIS!" and I went home and tried to forget what I had seen. I mean, I like a good party and all but...just no...

4 months ago I went gaming online for the first time at the ripe old age of 29.

Intimidating wasn't the word... more like terrifying.

COD4 was my game of choice (tried Gears 2 but it was yawnsome)

The frenetic pace and insane aggression of the community was frightening, but kept it up and have now a happy 0.97 K:D ratio, which I am told is pretty good for someone who's only played online for a few months.

The gym.

80% of all gym memberships belong to hardcore exercise addicts, so when any average built people try and use the gym, they tend to stand out like a sore thumb.

Good for you brother! Do what you feel like. I would say "70 years of life doing nothing but work and rest". No thanks, I'd rather survive a zombie invasion or run from Proffesor Chaos. And General Disaray.

Like a few people here the gym, but I have now got weights and a rowing machine in my garage so I will start there then I will flex my pecks of at the gym one time :p

but to try give something different to the thread , clubbing/partys. I wouldn't like to be round alot of drunk people doing stupid stuff, listening to music I probably won't like, it being crowded and trying to dance.

I can't think of anything that I feel to intimidated to do. It's more likely that it just doesn't interest me.

Depends what gym you go to I imagine. My local one has a few 'hardcore' members but most people are just average people looking to get fitter.

Try going to smaller one or joining with a friend, also don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks, all those hardcore people started off somewhere.

Rugby.

I would sooner get into Mixed Martial Arts and be stuck in a cage with some 320 lbs Jiu-Jitsu ogre who wants to use my spine as a reclining chair. I have seen some dudes playing Rugby that frankly, give me nightmares .

I'm gonna agree with D&D. I've wanted to try it for a long time now, but honestly, the books, rules, maps, characters, monsters, etc, it just seems like to much.

I love a good RPG as much as the next guy, but, D&D seems like a pretty big leap for me.

EVE Online.

It may aswell have a Rover surrounding the game i found it so impenetrable.

I hear its better with the changes made to the early game, may have to give it another look.

Yeah I gotta agree with this one. I have alright humor but it's just too darn offensive so I would have one excellent show that everyone would laugh at (AT SOME POINT) however my DVD and CD would have to be sold Posthumous if ya catch my drift.

This is a common misconception. Not everyone at the gym is a 200kg mass of muscle or a gorgeous, perfectly sculpted with abs like a rock. There are fat people looking to lose weight, old people looking to stay in shape, scrawny guys looking to get a bit buff. Gyms are friendly and welcoming. No one's going to judge you or mock you for being skinny. It's part of the gym-going mentality: people have different bodies, but if they're going to the gym it means they care about being healthy and looking good.

I'm not going to explain that it's simple (in fact, if you play with all the rules, it's not. Attacks of opportunity and - oh Gods - grappling are insanely complicated) but I will say that joining with a group of strangers is usually the best place to start. Roleplayers are normally very welcoming towards new guys: who knows? Maybe they're great actors, or quick to learn the rules. Do make sure to hook up with a group that has what you're looking for. Are you looking for something heavy on roleplaying and staying in character? Or something more akin to pen-and-paper Diablo?

I don't like clubbing that much either, one time I went with friends I ended up standing at the side eating all the food
