Yea.... about that...

I'd say by now I'm rather inured - and I sincerely doubt I'm going to lead a life even half as eventful.

Although I must note that I might've raised an eyebrow at finding out it's quite possible I'm the offspring of my mum cheating on her abusive husband.

Well, since I don't really talk to my dad, and my mum died when I was 10, I don't really know of anything particularly shocking.

Im pretty sure ive repressed anything bad ive found out about my parents

except the glaringly obvious fact that they were probably never happy during their marriage and that my father is most probably social retarded .

Captcha: Dollar Signs, well that would be much more ironic if this was a thread about EA

My mother acts like the entire world should be sunshine and roses and goes on about religion and stuff...

she dranks and got in drunken arguements with her father and had a really crappy home when she was a teenager o.o, it's not like her at all... I was fairly surprised she even got drunk ... it's just not something I can see her doing :p

My dad used to own this really nice red car (I forgot what was the make) but he sold it when he move to the UK to be with my mum (my dad used to be from the US).
I'm sorry, but "My dad used to own a nice car and then he sold it" dosen't exactly come across as shocking.
True but yet again I never view my dad to be that cool to own an expensive car like that.

Not really 'shocking', but just weird.

My mother put me up for adoption when I was little so she and my dad (not my biological one) could re-adopt me.

They had to go through the entire adoption process.

Is it me, or does that seem... odd.

When my dad was a teenager he dyed his hair pink, blue, and white in that order. When I was a teenager I dyed my hair pink, blue, then white. Not necessarily shocking, but kinda cool seeing as it wasn't planned or anything. We also had the exact same hair cut when we were 18 and I learned we both want purple eyes. Kinda strange seeing as we don't ever talk and aren't really very close.

I don't have cool stories....my parents are too open... 3=

I would likely have opened this with something like "Nothing, really." But reading through has brought stuff to mind from when I was younger.

So, I once discovered I have two older siblings (I always wanted a brother, score!).

My Dad had an American Beauty style photo of my Mum as his desktop picture.

My Dad has worked in pretty much every industrial role possible (and never, ever talks about it.)

My Grandad was Polish, also something that wasn't mentioned to me for a long time.

Both my 'rents are on their second marriage. The older sibling thing was sort of self explanatory when it came to my Mother's first marriage, didn't know my Dad had an ex-wife until she appeared at a family BBQ.

My Dad's sister (my aunt) is never spoken of because when I was a baby/toddler she took naked pictures of me with the intention of pulling them out at my 18th birthday in front of my friends.

My Mum got married at 18, to a guy she'd known since she was 14 (Oh, and he was a good few years older than her.)

I wish my mum would tell me more stuff but she just doesn't which is a shame. I love hearing about how life was like in the 70s/80s.

I did hear one story when she was still with my brothers dad (we have different dads) who was a bit of a prick. There was this band who I can't remember the name of, but they were quite famous in the 80s and my mums boyfriend at the time was a big fan.
They did a gig in my city, but he couldn't afford a ticket so didn't go. My mum was staying in the same fancy hotel they were at (I think she'd just been to see a show, she and her friends booked a hotel room for the night or something) and the drummer took a liking to my mum. He was supplying her with drinks and compliments through the night and suggested they go to his hotel room. Mum turned him down because she was in a relationship. He was nice enough to understand and gave her £20 to get a taxi home from town and his phone number.

Mum got home and went upstairs to find her boyfriend fucking some random woman. Apparently the women turned around and said something along the lines of 'Oh, so you're his girlfriend? We're a bit busy here if you don't mind!"
Mum said something like, "don't you worry sweetheart, I'm going and so are you!" pulled her off him by her hair and threw her outside naked, throwing her clothes after her. Mum packed an overnight bag and called a taxi to take her back to the hotel with the change she had from the £20 (taxis would have been like £3 back then). The drummer was still there and she basically said "Still up for going to your hotel room?"

I made her stop there because I didn't want to know the details of what happened...lol.
Apparently he gave her loads of signed merch the next day. She went home to pack the rest of her bags and said to her boyfriend "Hey, you like [band] don't you? Well here's a load of signed merch!"

"Oh wow, how did you get all this?" he asked.

Mum apparently smiled sweetly and said, "Cause I spent the night with the drummer, you fucking prick!" Then packed her bags and left.

Wanted to high five her so badly when she told me that. XD

Well, there are lots of things I don't care to recount, but the one that immediately sprung to mind was that my Dad used to date my Aunt, and he cheated on her with my Mum, and this is how they got together. Pretty sad if you ask me, because I shouldn't even be here!
Out of curiosity, did this put some strain on your mother and your aunt's relationship?
I heard that my aunt tried to strangle my mum when she found out.

She got over it fairly quickly though, because she knows my dad is a scum bag, and her and my mum are best friends now.

I love happy endings :)

That both my parents are actually irreplaceable in their fields of expertise (highly valuable). I found that out when my Moms ex boss begged her to come back at our house. Literally begged.

That's cool and all, but my question is this: is your user title an RHCP reference?
No need to comment in what I said if you don't find it interesting, but yeah, my user title came from the Chili Peppers song but it means a bit more than that too. I would personally love to get lost in Ethiopia. The idea gives me a great feeling of escapism. As does the song itself to an extent. When I heard flea talk about the song before the album was released, I knew I'd like it and its definitly one of the best tracks on the album and stands up with many of their greats.

[edited because my quote didn't work, hope you still get notified with my answer Binnsyboy]

That my dad was kicked out of university for going out to riots with my mum, usually sporting matching green Mohawks. I only found out when I was going to view some and my dad wondered if he's still technically banned from the campus of one I was thinking of. He spent the next hour filling me in on the times him, my mum and their group of friends spent one summer battling the police at Stonehenge. To say he spends all his time at home being a typical old git that really made me cynical about all the activist people at uni.
