One time my parents confiscated my Game Boy when I was little. So I decided to rummage through their drawers hoping to figure out where they hid it and in the process I stumbled across my mom's sex toy collection.

It was an unpleasant discovery, to say the least.

My dad met my mother when he was 23...and she was 16. Which I found interesting because I am currently 17 seeing a 24 year old and my dad has an issue with it ^.^ He lets it fly though, but he has said "You know it's not right for a man to be with a boy, you're still a boy you know."

My dad told me he was into heavy drugs like cocaine and crack when he was younger.

My mother told me how her mother was very abusive and kept an iron-fist rule in the home even while my mother was the one who supported the entire household with her paycheck.

My grandmother used to sneak in bottles of alcohol for her friends when she used to go to clubs (oh god why...)

My dad shot an RPG once, and promised he'd let me if the situation presented itself.

I was 20 years old when my parents divorced and it was only then that I found out my mother had already been married before... I was absolutely shocked.

I never knew that my mum had been in a previous marriage before my dad, I found that out when I was 16. I also never knew my uncle was gay until I was around 13 but I think that is because he lives abroad that I never found out.

My half-siblings from my dad's first marriage are adopted and they never told their spouses. It's a pretty super huge dick move, but I have every intention of not letting them into my dad's funeral when he dies and say "Blood relation only."

My Dad told me just after my Nan (Mum's Mum) passed away that my Mum had a Sister who passed away as a baby.

I also found out a few months ago that I have an extra half Brother, my Dad had him just before him and my Mum got together and had my only full Brother (I have another half-Brother from my Mum who lived with us so that wasn't shocking)

My Dad had been to court for beating someone up.

I think the idea that my parents have had sex, and likely continued to have it after I was born, was enough to blow my mind forever. I mean... I can't even... Oh, oh god.

My parents have a lot of interesting stories but nothing that's actually exciting. I guess the only thing that really stands out is that my mom wasn't exactly treated well by my grandpa.

There's a whole list of stuff for both my parents (mostly my mum, though).

Mum is a Christian, has always been one to worship Christianity (not obsessively, but she goes to church and doesn't like us blaspheming) but she is pro-choice. Told me that she used to go on protest marches to show she was pro-choice, and this was only revealed to me after she found out that my girlfriend and I have been having sex. Her telling me about being at a house party where the fire brigade had to be called makes me believe she was a party animal, and the unfortunate truth that her and my dad still have sex nearly killed me inside.

My dad is just dull, though. His brother is the interesting one with the motorbike (which he crashed on the Nurburgring) and the music festival memories, but I found out that my dad used to have long hair and a motorbike...which he only used once and then sold because, and I quote, 'he thought they were crap'. He's very bitter about his father, who, as it turned out, used to beat him as a child. But my dad also met Gary Gygax, which surprised a lot of my friends.

There's stuff about other family members that's pretty shocking to me, though. Finding out that my mum had an older brother who died when he was 3 days old and that I was probably named after him despite my mum denying it. My grandpa being married twice was also a shock, even more of a shock being the fact that his second wife was my biological grandmother's (his first wife's) sister! However, everyone in the family supported their marriage, as both their spouses had died around the same time and they had supported each other through the grief and believed that their late spouses would have approved.

My mum's stepsister is in her second marriage, and my mum only told me recently that her second husband was her next door neighbour during her first marriage. Apparently she's still friends with her first husband, and when my grandpa (her stepfather) found out that she had split up with her first husband, he drove for 7 hours up to the north of England to 'have a chat' with her now second husband, because he believed that he was responsible for her marriage falling apart. Seeing as her second husband was high up in the police and has the scars to prove it, my grandpa was a badass. Luckily, they got along and there was no violence, but still. My grandpa had balls.

You know those yearbook photos from the 70's where you see girls with really wild and frizzy hair and the huge glasses? Yeah...that was my mom in '79 XD

I don't want to bring too much of a depressing mood on this thread, so I'll just state my number 1: I found out my mum was a prostitute when I was a teenager. Her boyfriend found out and told me about it. Can't say it was out of character though.

When my Dad died of cancer about 8 years ago we found out he had a weird brain condition similar to epilepsy. This made him have episodes that made him act like a psycho for periods of time and if he was injured he would just keep going. My childhood was like living in a slasher movie. We thought he was just a bastard... lol. He once got hit by a minivan while jogging and ran home. He turned up looking like something out of a zombie flick.

Not sure it counts but I found out my grandad sent 3 kids to an asylum by blackmailing and bullying them before he was 8 years old. When he died we cremated and buried him to make sure he wouldn't come back...he was a seriously nasty guy. My grandma (91) is a lovely person and deserved way better.

My mum is kind of tame in comparison but I found out she was a direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake when The Queen sent her an invitation to a museum opening.

Found out my dull accountant father was a veteran soldier having joined the Rhodesian (now Zimbabwe) army at the age of 16, served with the South African army between 1981-1994 fighting in Angola (rising to the rank of major) and then travelled around Africa picking up mercenary work with his army buddies untill 2001. My mum just said he worked long hours.

Found out that my dad flew combat missions over Iraq during Desert Storm and his plane was hit by a missile (apparently if its not a direct explosion you can still fly home).

Also, when I met him at a young age, my Great Grandfather told me he managed to get into a midair collision with Charles Lindbergh. Made learning about Lindbergh in school kinda interesting as I already new him as the "ass who couldn't fly"

My Mom was a cheerleader for the Redskins but never really made it big with that. The surprising thing is, she was still a part of the squad after having me! I think I was 2 when she had to give it up though.

I didn't know I had a 3rd Uncle (Dad's side) until about 2 years ago. Apparently he's Dad's half brother and while I don't remember meeting him ever, we're facebook friends now and he seems like a cool guy. It is only tangentially related to Dad but the fact that he would hide the fact that he had a half-brother tells a bit about what a bastard my Dad is.

I was kind of shocked to discover that my dad actually used to watch and even enjoy Star treck, not that its a bad programe I was simply shocked because of the number of times he poked fun at me for playing warcraft.
