What are some things you have learned in video games that you than find in school?

For me, I learned about percentages in Spyro the Dragon. They became pretty apparent when I was trying to complete the game.

I learned how to read with the Spyro series, nearly all the dialog has text under it, and I would read along the character speaking.

Other than all my math skills coming from Bethesda , Bioware, and Black Isle studios combined.

I learned about economics, supply and demand, primitive trade warfare and technology, and some history from Age of Empires.

i learned a lot from metal gear solid. i mean you have to be able to split the fact from fiction, but that's not too hard and many actual events are referenced.

A ton of history from Age of Empires, a ton mythology from Age of Mythology. The basic idea of world war 2 from Medal of Honor and the first CoD. A bit more history from all of the Total War saga and Civilisation.

As others have said, maths and the likes from a lot of games.
Morality from BioWare games.
History from Civ games, coupled with mythology. Also things such as economics, basic understandings of diplomacy & politics. (actually this was probably the reason I decided to get a politics degree in the 1st place)
Basic instincts & common sense from almost every game.

Oh, and also to think less of women with nothing short of massive boobs.

To read. When i was young i more or less taught myself to read by playing FF6+7 in an attempt to understand what was going on.

Well, kinda overlapping, but English.

Without video games, I doubt my English would be at the level it is now, IE top grades through 13 years of school.

I learned about Objectivist Philosophy from Bioshock, since its a play on Ayn Rand's Book Atlas Shrugged and is all about individualism. That got me through a political literature essay that game.

Back during my adolescent years I learned about the ceaseless persistence a bully/rival poses to his/her/its/their victims until they get their asses handed to them by either you, or the local Big Bad, from JRPGs.

No... seriously... I had an annoying bully from middle school that liked to occasionally inflict me w/ the "pain" status, usually w/ blunt objects, until I indirectly caused him to have a little meet-&-greet with a local bunch of gang members. Gang members that I'd describe as "chaotically evil" to anyone not as "chaotically evil" as they were...

Yeah... I'm a tad "deviantly minded"... ;)
