I'm bored enough now to make a random thread

somtimes when I read a book/play a game or listen to a particular band I love it almost instantly

but somtimes I find the things I like most in the long run..I wasn't to fussed about first time around. Mabye it was because I didnt "get it", I might have been too young or it was somthing that reqired more thourght or a second veiwing

here's mine

1. [b/] Mass effect-[/b] I think at the time Ihad played dragon age origins (my first bioware RPG)so Mass Effect kind of felt..."unpolished" in comparison

also I was distracted by technical issues I was having running the game

I was genuinly surprised when Femshep opened her mouth and spoke for the first time though..anyway first femshep looked like a troll, and..well I dont know, I had a hard time taking everything (even femshep herself) seriously..I didnt dislike it, I did by the end but It wasnt anything amazing

but another playthrough later and I began to liek ti more (probably because I worked out how to play the damn game) and as much as I LOVE the other two...mass effect 1 still feels more "unique" in how its not particually gritty, or brown...but cheesy and colurful, with rediculous looking armour that doesnt resemble somthing from Halo, I can apreciate it for that

and now Im a mass effect fanatic

2. [b/] rap music [/b] this probably has more to do with my musical tastes developing, I started really liking eminem...but had the whole problem with the "subject matter" of rap..and plus to my ears it jsut didnt sound "good"

but then after lsitening and listening..I started to "get it", you know, what it is that made rap good..then I discovered some less know artists and yeah, now I like quite a bit

so...what are yours?

Well I started to listen to Smashing Pumpkins, at first I thought this is shit but now I think they're quite good. I don't love the band but I think they're good. Wait, I didn't like The Pixies at first but now they're one of my favourite bands, man do they grow on you.

There have been a couple of films that I really enjoyed on a second viewing despite really disliking them after the first. The one that comes to mind the most is Wanted.

Granted, I wouldn't say I "love" any of these second chance films. But they did get better after I re-watched them.

Another, I suppose, would be (modern?) pop music. I used to be one of those people who would cringe whenever a Britney Spears song (or the like) would come on the radio, but after actually giving the genre a chance, I found I really enjoyed it. Go figure.

Hm, I'd have to say some pop music. No matter how much I try to hate a poppy song that I know is just to make the monies, I can't help it. It's like crack or a guilty pleasure :(

I didn't really like TV series (Since I spend 80% of my tv watching on Investigation Discovery, National Geographic or the History channel) but that changed (kind of) after I submitted to watching 'Jericho' on Netflix. God, that's some good stuff :p

A Hermit's Cave
Anime... thought it was samey kiddish crap until I watched a few more 'mature' series as opposed to the rubbish they showed on British daytime terrestrial, soooooooooo...

That and rock music, having been brought up on baroque and classical music, all contemporary stuff was just noise in my ears, but I've developed a taste for some rock and metal.

Assassin's Creed, I picked up the first game dirt cheap, but couldn't get into it.
Left it a good 6 weeks before starting the game again.

Now, I love the series!

Rap. Man, it's weird how much you change in college. Less than a year ago I would've never touched rap, not even Eminem. Then my coworkers got me to listen to My Beautiful Dark Fantasy and it has changed my mind completely.

Indie. I hated how indie/hipster anything was portrayed as being different for the sake of being obscure instead of actually attempting to make creative music. That changed when my manager convinced me to get a vinyl player and now I've been buying indie LPs like crazy.

System of a Down. I hated them because all I ever heard from them was Cigaro and BYOB, because that is all the people in high school listened to. I heard Hyponotize all the way through actually thoroughly enjoyed it.

Coheed and Cambria. Thought my friends were just getting a hardon for just another teenager band. When Nine the movie came out I heard Welcome Home and I started exploring their music. Became my favorite band easily.

Okami. I bought a bunch of games while I was busy with Uni work so I had a quick go on it. I was confuse with the controls at the start and didn't think much of it so I put it on hold. Some time later I had free time to play games and had a another go at it which blew me away.

Alcohol. Tried it at various times throughout my teenage years, never thought I'd actually like the taste of it.
Growls in metal. I'm not even sure how it happened, death metal vocals used to completely turn me off. Now they just turn everyone around me off, haha.

Agreed, the first two episodes had me wondering what all the fuss was about, but then it got funnier and funnier, and now here I am, having seen every single episode multiple times.

This. In my early teens I never understood the need for screaming or growling in metal or hardcore music. Now most of my music is comprised of artists with screaming vocals (Parkway Drive, Cancer Bats, Every Time I Die, Converge, Elitist, Periphery, Lamb Of God etc).
I can't explain when it happened but now I spend a lot of my time explaining the intensity and raw power of it all to my girlfriend. She doesn't buy it.

Yep. That's how it works. Soon you'll start growling along to songs as well. Invest in Halls.

On that note, Nightfall in Middle-Earth. Didn't like it that much at first, but by the third or fourth listen, loved it. (It's an album).

This a million times.

Also, Radiohead. For some reason, Thom Yorke's voice annoyed the hell out of me.

Now I can proudly say that The Bends is one of the top 3 on my top 10 albums list.

Halo: Reach, Dragon Age: Origins, Zelda: Twilight Princess, the Lost finale, and the fourth generation of Pokemon are what instantly come to mind for me.

Mayonnaise. I used to absolutely hate the stuff, it was in a sandwich or a meal I was eating I'd either get anything else or try remove it with surgical efficiency. Then one time I tried it and was like 'this is alright' and now have it with loads of stuff. It's probably my favourite condiment now.
