I gave up any ambition of working in the game industry after my time at Activision.

Years later I now own my own game company, Skylance Studio. I just couldn't get game design out of my blood, but I wouldn't allow myself to go back to work for a big publisher again.
But what if you became a big publisher? Would you quit?

Important questions!
I never really gave it much thought. I started Skylance Studio in hopes that I could make the many games I have been dreaming up over the years, and many more I will dream up yet, while also not starving to death in the process. I didn't start it to be a publisher, or to invest in other studios. If I can make the games I want to make then I'll be happy. Otherwise the whole venture would be meaningless for me.

I got my gaming PC rather recently, and one of the first games I downloaded was League of Legends. I promised myself that I wouldn't use RP to buy champions. Unfortunately for me and my saintly moral standards, my grandparents sent me an RP card for my birthday when they heard me talk about the game. I tried to resist using it, but Volibear was on sale, taunting me . . . how could you expect me NOT to buy an armored electric bear?!

Since Volibear was so cheap while on sale, I also had enough left over to pick up Talon. Double the shame. I'm pretty good with both of them, but there's always that niggling voice in the back of my head after every winning game, saying "You shouldn't have them yet, you impatient prick".

After Dragon Age 2 I vowed never to buy a game on launch day ever again. Wait for reviews I said. Guess who just pre-ordered Rome 2.

I told myself after Christmas that I wouldn't buy any more games until the summer sales so that I could work through my scary backlog. Since Christmas I've bought 21 games on Steam alone, not counting DLC.

Also I have a solution to those having rage problems. Fill your gaming space with expensive, nice things. Smashing a £5 keyboard is no biggie but launching the controller at your £500 TV, that's something you'll think twice about before doing.

"This achievement system is bullshit. It's only made to make you buy a shitload of games you'd never get otherwise... I'll never fall for that shit."

Four years, 110+ PS3 games and 30+ Xbox 360 games later...

I swore I wouldn't resub to WoW after I quit the first time. And the second time. And the third time. But I find myself coming back for about a month or two every expansion to see the new content before getting bored again. Right now I'm playing through MoP and it's so damn dumbed down. I swear I'll never resub to WoW again.

I swore I'd never buy two copies of a game just so I could play co-op games with my brother...two copies of Dead Island, Saints Row The Third, Left for Dead, Portal 2, Minecraft, Borderlands 1 and 2, Terraria and GTA 4 later....

I swore I'd never drink, do drugs or pay for porn, and yet I've done/do all of that. Although I've only ever done drugs once. With video games I said I'd not support EA and yet I bought ME 1 & 2. Oh well, it is a good series. I'll buy number 3 as soon as I finish ME 2.

Play a shooting game. Getting my cute little bottom handed to me whilst playing Dirge of Cerberus convinced me to never again waste my time with that crap.

Then I played Borderlands 2 as it was a 2 player game and I wanted something to be able to play with my housemate. Then I bought Mass Effect 3 as it was really cheap.

Sure, I still suck at shooty games, but if they have an easy mode then at least I wont have to buy new controllers every month after my previous one somehow decides to break itself by suicide-leaping headfirst into the nearest wall. *cough*

[edit: 1111st post! Yay!]

Uggg this, I never wanted to go back to WoW but I always end up breaking down or getting a free pass to come back for a week and wanting to play then finding out I haven't missed anything and It's no fun anymore. Still the same old same old. I'm currently 9 months clean from WoW. I have my animal crossing now <3

I haven't broke it yet but I've sworn off buying EA published games first-hand and then they went and announced Battlefront 3 and I can feel the temptation.

I feel your pain. I have a massive amount of characters, so some were bound to be tryhard, but I had a phase where I used Pursuers. Pursuers of all things. And one where I used a Darkmoon Blade Falchion. I've never used TWoP, but only because I can't use it properly. But yes, it's a sad spiral where you just get ganked one too many times and decide there's no other way.

My solution was to have tryhard gear on hand and if I invaded a gank squad, switch to that, but otherwise have some fun. Another thing I did though, as a bit of an excuse, was become an avid RTSR user - which is theoretically a high-risk, high-reward playstyle, but in reality is pure fun all the time.
Dude I love the red tearstone ring. I made pretty much the ultimate glass cannon pyro character. I pumped vitality, attunement, and endurance. I used the Dusk crown, crimson robes (for dat firemage style) for rings I had the RTSR and DWGR. I activated the ring pre-invasion and cast power within as soon as I saw my target. 8/10 of my matches went just like this: I would throw a chaos fireball, they would roll through it towards me, hoping to end the match quickly, and I would burn their faces off with my flamethrower hand. With the three stacking damage buffs, fire surge has ludicrous dps and it was my bread and butter during invasions. If I ever managed to land a great chaos fireball it was almost always a one shot, same with chaos firestorm. I would really recommend this style of play for anyone who wants intense, high risk, and explosive matches.

He deserved to never get a kill.

Taric ADC is OP.
AD Taric? Pffffff, AD Thresh is the real kill steal master.

"Nice double kill you're getting there Draven... Be a shame if something happened to it..."

Thresh doesn't leave kills for the carry. He makes his carry work for that last hit.

For me it's the opposite: I got really competitive when playing DemiGod for the first time with some friends, and my team mate (it was 2 vs 2) didn't really know how to play (none of us did, but he was worse than the others), so I got angry every time he made a mistake. After being reminded that it' just a game, I swore never to do that again. So far, so good. Just another reason why co-op is so much better than competitive MP.

I bought Modern Warfare 2. I waited a bit, but all my friends were playing it...Ugh. Never again.
This. Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, and Black Ops 2. And after every one I swore I would never do it again. Why must I cave to peer pressure? Also, why can't my friends play more interesting games?
If peer pressure to play crap is a problem, we need to fight fire with fire and start exerting peer pressure to stop people from buying crap made by bastard companies.

Amen to that, brother. However among my friends I feel like a salmon swimming upstream. No matter how much I try to tell them there's more interesting and engaging stuff out there (Team Fortress 2, for example) they stubbornly refuse to play anything that doesn't have Call of Duty in the title. I am open to suggestions.

I swore I would never get an online pass then they offered it for Borderlands 2. To be honest I felt like a tool buying it and not knowing for sure if the dlc would be any good. All I knew is that I liked all the B1 dlc. Not exactly a guarantee.
But in the end it's saved me $10, since I would've bought the dlc anyway (it's a good value); saved $20 because I would've probably ended up buying the one that's coming out soon too.

Or AP carry Soraka. Went like 15/3 that game.
Considering how much I despise Soraka in general, an AP mid Soraka is more welcome to my team than a support one. Seriously, how to unconditionally lose bot lane:

1. Pick Soraka

2. Get hard engaged upon by Leona/Thresh/Blitzcrank/Sona/Taric/any bloody character in the game

3. Melt instantly

4. Feed like a ************

99% of Sorakas do this. Admittedly the other 1% are great but damn...
