Hello, my fine fellow Escapees. I rarely post on here, due to a fatal case of lurkitis, but I've been incredibly bored as of late and I thought of something that sounds like a faintly interesting topic idea.

So, today, I went to the doctor's office to see just how messed up my body is from illness, and one of the tests they performed on me was a blood test. Now, when I was younger, I was deathly afraid of needles, as was almost every other kid I knew, so I was expecting tremendous pain today. Fortunately, however, it was over in a flash. My first thought was "why didn't anyone tell me it wasn't that bad?" My second thought was "they probably did, so why didn't I listen?"

Anyways, to make an attempt to get back on topic, what's something you used to be scared of, but you now know is actually harmless?

Between the tattoos and the monthly blood tests I have to have done since I'm on Lithium, I've become completely desensitized to needles. They used to freak me out, but now I watch the entire process without feeling even a twinge of discomfort.

I used to be TERRIFIED of needles. I still don't like them, but I can tolerate them now.

I also used to be so mortally afraid of vampires that I couldn't even say or think that word without clutching the back of my neck and looking around in fear. ...Now, they don't scare me because I know they don't exist.

And there was that time when I was afraid of black widow spiders magically appearing in my covers when I went to sleep. ...Yeah, I got over that.

So I got over most of my childhood fears.

...Except wasps. Because fuck wasps. >_<

Flying and heights. I was terrified getting on a plane for the first time but actually loved it. Spent the whole time staring out the window at all the tiny things below.

when I was a kid I was terrified of going to buy things (you know, snacks and such)..in fact alot of stuff terrified me

I would have to count EXCATALLY how much money I had

because what if I didnt have enough?

I mean its a $1.70..I have $1.80 but I have to absolutly make sure and count again because if I dont have enough then the world will end

I could try and get somone else to buy it for me...because even if I DO have $1.80 what if its actually more? what if Im hallucinating or counted wrong or its all in my head and I DONT have enough?

...yeah..Ive chilled out since then

oh and crowds..I handle crowds better now than I did when I was a kid

I no longer fear wasps. I just merely hate them with the passion of a thousand suns. I used to fear spiders but no longer.

Still afraid of unreasonably high staircases. You know, the kind that exists in apartments that go up in squares? You can look down the middle of them and...

*shudders*

Basic fear of height also applies but oddly the stairs get to me more often. Most of my falling dreams feature such staircases...

When I first started skating I was terrified of hitting small objects and faceplanting. After about 5 unfortunate accidents and a huge improvement in skill, I no longer fear it, but it does surprise the hell out of me on the rare occasion that it happens

I used to be afraid of the dark, way back in the mists of time.

Then, someone bought me a tape called 'Plop: The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark' and Huzzah! I was cured!

Really had a deep fear of girls when I was younger. Of course if you put me in a room full of women, I would go quiet and avoid eye contact. Not only did I fear talking to them, bet they intimindated the hell out of me. When I got older, that fear turned to hatred. Hated the fact that all my girlfriends were between 2005-2007. I slept with about 5 women and nothing after that. Then I got that hatred that builds up after you have been alone for awhile. Everytime somebody gave me some bullshit advice, it just made me even more pissed off.
OOOOOOOOH!! Now I understand why you said that thing the other day.
I guess now that I know this it sounds rather understandable, though I still think it's rather silly.

OT: I used to be really afraid of being afraid, and by that I mean letting anyone think that I was scared of something, whenever something scared me I would just face it head on because I didn't want to look like a coward this got me in quite a bit of trouble, but nowadays I don't really mind, though my reaction to those situations is still rather off, but now I don't mind admitting I got scared by something.

I used to fear wasps. But after the nth time they fly around your face, you get used to it.

Well, let's see. Over the past 15 years or so, there's been....

-Flying
-Home Invasion (that is, fear of someone invading my home, not a fear of randomly breaking into someone else's house)
-Doing presentations in front of a class
-Driving on the free-way
-Passing people (on the road, that is. Wasn't sure where my blind spot was, took me forever to figure it out)
-Roller coasters
-Several large power tools in my school's woods workshop
-Change
-Needles
-Bees/wasps

I think that covers everything. Man, I was a jumpy kid.

I used to be absolutely terrified of graveyards, probably thanks to my Trolldad who would wind me up about them whenever we went past them. A love of zombie movies and games soon sorted that fear out.
Needles and injections used to scare me, but I had to have about 4 in the space of a few months so I got over that somewhat.
And bees, bees are cute and make honey :3

I was terrified of flying up until I turned 16.

I was seeing a lass and wanted to show off how tough I was when I was joining the army that I chose the Para's.

Great choice for someone scared of flying .... the Parachute Regiment.

Needless to say I had to get over that pretty quick or my career would have been very short.

Death. Used to terrify me, the thought of it, despite being so young. I used to think it was constantly around the corner.

Now I am a bit older. I really don't care anymore. It happens.
