Tell us all things that now have a whole different significance to you after you get older.

For example - in primary school, I read a graphic novel by Raymond Briggs called "When the Wind Blows". At age 9 it just seemed like a book about a couple who survive a nuclear blast.

14 years later, upon rereading it today, it's so much dark gallows humour, and now I see how their actions that were "common sense" in their previous war are now hastening the deaths of this sweet, naive, lovely old couple. And now I feel depressed.

So, what is a whole different kettle of fish to you nowadays, since you were younger?

P.S. If you want to depress yourself a bit.http://delcat.insanejournal.com/46801.html

Wow, you read "When the Wind Blows"? I loved that one as an eleven-year-old! (Come to think of it, I love it now, when I can read the English original and not the very good Swedish translation, too.)

Well, a lot of super-hero stuff doesn't seem as dark any more. Like Morbius' transformaiton to a vampire in Spider-Man the animated series; it seemed extremely dark back then, as did a lot of comic books. An interesting subversion is that some comic books, like the Archie comics Turtles series, actually seem pretty dark still. Not as grim 'n gritty, obviously, but it's clear that I didn't find them dark just because I was a kid.

Politics, religion, usual kettle of fish. I used to as myself either "will this help me" or "is it the right thing to do" now I ask myself "where's the money going to come from" and "is it the right thing to do". I find myself playing games that require a lot more patience than I used to. I've always loved strategy games, but now I play turn based ones because I don't have the twitch reflexes I used to and most of them feel more complex.

My likes and dislikes in books have not really changed that much. I read the Lord of the Rings in fourth grade and still have not kicked my "high fantasy" addiction.

Probably my favorite specific change has to do with a certain online game. I remember keeping up with World of Warcraft all the way back in alpha testing and then being frustrated that I couldn't get into beta for lack of a reliable internet connection. Nowadays I couldn't care less and I wish I could go one day without hearing about the thing.

I think that The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry can be taken as a measure for personal growth. Read it every five years or so and each time you'll interpret it differently and find a new depth to it.

I always though grown ups knew best and that though they could be wrong they would generally steer humanity down the correct path.

I now realized everyone is borderline retarded and it's up to me to survive on my own. Man, do I miss the good ol' days of just goofing off and not worrying about anything.

My parents are a lot smarter than I originally thought.
These two contrast each other in an interesting way, don't you think?

I can't think of a single thing I DON'T view differently, to be perfectly honest...

I had an innocent look at the world when I was younger. I had a bit of a romanticism view in that in the end if you try, and I mean really try, to do or get something that you will succeed. Time has shown me the exact opposite.

I realised I was a stupid kid but not because of my age as such, although general life experience and development do have some effect, it?s because I?m human and we are all terribly flawed. And I realised that sometimes we can?t even get passed these flaws, we can recognise them but we can?t fix it. It?s like that illusion where they ask you which line is longer. Every single time you know, you know, the lines are the same length. Yet even then one line still looks longer than the other. This is one example, and I?m sure we get the same effect in other contexts. It?s just with that particular example it?s easy to realise you are wrong.

Like the rest, politics and religion. I completely shifted political ideals, since I didn't really think about politics much when I was younger. I mean, why would I? Authority is everywhere when you're a child, there's no reason to care about the authority that affects your parents, to a child, it's all the same.

The movie Ghostbusters is suddenly much better now that I'm grown up.
It's a rare movie that accomplishes that.

I just got like, thread deja vu. And i don't mean that in some shitty, passive aggressive "use the search bar next time" way. I mean i seriously felt like i've read that exact OP before.

I'm spending way too much time on the internet.

Things I view differently......Girls. Thats the main one

But I guess things like politics, racism and homophobia are things I (thankfully) view differently now. Went through a phase in highschool where anything that was silly to me was "gay" or stupid people are "n***ers". Never again shall I be a 13 year old ignorant prick.

You called stupid people "n***ers"? Interesting. I always assumed that for some reason, people are okay with calling silly stuff "gay" but never using the word "n***er" for anything other than black people.
Not that I ever used any of the words. Gay friends and relatives, black friends and relatives.

One thing I do sometimes is replay games I played a few years back. But everyone does that, right? One thing that expands is my knowledge of English, so I understand a lot more things in, say, Metal Gear Solid now than 8 years ago.
I don't believe, however, that my world view has changed a lot.
