I'd like to see water reworked so that there isn't a persistent current if you open a new waterway to the sea more than one square deep. Right now the only water doing any work is the top layer. Unless I'm very careful with flooding areas, it ends up with a giant scar which apparently lasts forever.

-A wedge or a hammer and chisel to carve wood and stone to beautify my buildings. A wedge could be a block of wood over iron. A hammer and chisel could be a block of stone and an iron ingot. I'd also like to see paint added.

-Tessellating, triangular blocks

-Larger, customizable ships. I know Notch already talked about it being in later, but I want better boats. This could be done if wooden planks placed on water floated. Especially ones which don't shoot out from under me when I disembark, crash into a block, and explode. I like to build along the water, and often link up lots of bases with canals.

-A pencil so I can mark my maps. It could be a piece of coal and a stick horizontal to each other.

-I think there should be a backpack which replaces a chest piece of armor. It would carry more items. Or you could make it so pigs are tameable and use them as pack animals.

-Hot air balloons would be cool.

-More variety in biomes and textures. Jungles, marshes, etc.

Hrm.To have items added via patch to effect all portions of maps retroactively. Nothing like having a 100mb map only to have to go out exploring just to find wild grass.

Beyond that...

Furniture, Mirrors Aircraft, Writable books, Dialog scripting, Action scripting, Water pumps, Gears (even if they are square and rotate 360 degrees) Ropes, pulleys A way to craft TNT in a purely peaceful game (even if its at a slow rate) Higher world celing, More underwater animals like sharks, Diving helms for underwater construction. A construction material for tools between gold and diamond.... i could go on but I would never end.

And yes I know most of these things can be obtained from mods in one shape or another, but for me personally the last thing I wish to do is mod my game any more complex than adding photorealism texture packs. I hate hearing "but you can mod it" when just keeping my single texture pack working from patch to patch is hard enough.

pistons. like the ones in the game now but are like 3-7 blocks long

bonfires

bigger explosives. like tnt but more powerful

easier redstone circuits. maybe not needing redstone at all.

A much higher ceiling. I want to build massively tall structures, and have giant, towering cliffs. The block height limit (I think it's 128 blocks but I may be wrong) is way too restrictive for some of the things I want to do. Also I'd like to see a journal option. When you go to bed or when it hits midnight, a journal page pops up which lets you write a description of what you built in Minecraft that day. It would also save a snapshot of your world you could revert to if you messed something up. Just two things I'd love to see.

There isn't much he isn't going to add in The Adventure Update that I want. Maybe a giant insect of sorts (or just a normal insect)? Obviously there are tons of good ideas on the internet for minecraft, such as this one on map height, that I support. I also would love to see bookshelves get funtionality added, so you can write in them, or buy books for minecraft?

I'd like to see more modding support so that there aren't issues where the ID's or Tiles run out. Maybe some sort of official ModLoader and ModLoaderMP. Mods can cater to pretty much every desire from guns to NPC's to ore detection the freaking Aether. Most of the stuff that people are asking for here is pretty controversial and would anger someone else if it was included in the vanilla, so customization seems the best route to please as many people as possible.

That aside, Minecraft needs to be optimized. It hogs memory, only to leak it like a sieve, many things are bugged in multiplayer, and it often crashes when changed to/from fullscreen. I will grant that it's still in Beta, but these kinds of basic fixes are what are most needed. Modders can take the load of adding content, but only Notch can fix the game itself.

Aside from all the cool stuff that appears to be coming in 1.8, I'd like the ability to build more vehicles, the ability to make larger gates and otherwise more easily manipulate large quantities of blocks than what pistons offer, and, in general, more mobs, more pre-generated structures, more plants, underground biomes... yeah, that's about all I can think of, off the top of my head.

I love the game as it is, but there's a lot of stuff that I think would really add to experience:

-More underwater content: Notch said he would add it, but he was incredibly vague about what he would do with it. Come one, man! I want to explore the depths of the ocean. I want to see fishes and whales and seaweed and underwater wonders. I want to explore sunken ruins and ships and underwater dungeons. Come on, don't tell me you don't want that, as well!

-A lantern that you can carry: Take the light with you. Okay, I know what you're thinking: that would take a lot of the difficulty out of the game, but I have an idea: What if it could only light up when it's equipped, and when it is, it slowly deteriorates? Huh? Eh, it's just an idea.

-An easier way to get moss stone: Need I say more?

-More redstone uses: Okay, so we're slowly getting more and more cool devices to use redstone for. Doors, trapdoors, dispensers, pistons, you name it. But there's still some untapped potential in this wire. How about a windmill or something?

-Ships: Not those shoeboxes that we call boats! Ships! I want to be able to build a giant pirate ship and explore the seas with my Minecraft buddies... If they were real, of course.

-Trains: Pretty much the same thing as ships.

-Hot air balloons: Again...

-Customizable books and paintings: I hate putting up a painting that I have a block over, punching it, putting it back up, and finding that it's another painting I put two blocks over. Maybe you could give up some tools to make our own? As for books, I like having bookshelves, but I want to actually read the bloody books rather than just look at their spines.

-Birdies!: I just want to see some flying around is all.

-Armor retextures: I really don't like having a custom skin of myself be covered in an uncreative blotch of brown/yellow/grey/blue. I want armor to look like armor, not like a shiny T-shirt.

-Larger Biomes: Biomes were a great idea, but I hated seeing dessert in one direction and a forest in another. I want biomes to be much bigger.

-Easier way to make custom skins: Pretty self explanatory, as well.

-Easier way to make saddles: I don't want to look for hours for a dungeon to find a saddle so I could ride a pig off of a cliff! Just make it out of leather and iron ore. Simple!

-Stained glass windows: Come on, that would be pretty cool! Just get some dye and some glass and viola! Stained glass!

-Furniture: I have a big house but no furniture to put stuff in it. Just some chairs or tables is fine, but I want some furniture, please!

-More dog textures: Nothing too special about this one, but I think it would be cool if you had different types of dogs that you could tame. Also, I'd want to be able to make a dog house to put them in and the ability to name them.

-More music discs: Again, self explanatory, butI know it's going to happen so it's barely worth noting.

I know some of these are available in mods, but I want these in the vanilla game!

I just want some purpose. I want incentive to build things, incentives to dig tunnels, some kind of progression. That's it really, but I have a feeling 1.8 will address just that.
To be honest, I don't think that will EVER be addressed because its not really a "problem" per say. personally that's why I stopped playing and now I play Terraria, but that's more a personal preference than something that's wrong with the game.

Being able to plant hedges. I don't mean the little blocks of leafs, which last time I checked still had to be attached to wood. No, real hedges.
But good sir! You *can* make hedges, simply harvest leaves with shears, and they become placeable blocks!
True, but those will disappear unless you place them on wood. I'm not quite sure what Notch was thinking, but it's quite stupid :(
Nope. Player-placed leaves don't decay (according to the release notes).

I'd like some sort of auto construction device. I know it's been implimented in a few mods but I'd like one for the official game. Lay down some special blocks and it will automatically start building with whatever materials you supply it with, all along the paths between the blocks. It would make large scale construction projects much, much easier.

Also, some sort of lantern or torch you could take with you. It would make small scale exploration of caves much easier.

And someone above me mentioned stained glass which I had not thought of but which would be fucking awesome.

Ability to change the music to play what ever you want in whatever area you want. So when someone comes up to my castle "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana starts playing. A different song for the mountains or near water...

I definitely want moving blocks, like the one person said early on to make things that move. I'd like to be able to make furniture for houses.
I'd like cities/towns and npcs.
I'd like some sort of lava detector or something, so I don't break a block and fall into lava and lose everything! xD (Which happens more times than I like to admit...)

There's definitely a lot more, but most of them were already said above. So, those are my main desires!

A purpose. This game is in dire need of a purpose. Yes, it's relaxing to mine and make, but we would like more.

Beyond that, how about keys for doors and chests. Add a tiny bit of security.

Paint, maybe? So we could have houses that aren't made out of a weak combustible substance but don't look ALL THE SAME.

Most other things have already been addressed, however given the potential scale of resources you can amass I just want really big stuff to build.

OT. More decorative blocks so I can make my house look all pretty and stuff.

I want the Aether mod implemented into the game, as well as paint blocks and some kind of flying carpet to get round the world faster. Oh, a some kind of competitive mode for online servers like capture the block or something on those lines.

They do, unless placed on wood (ie those tree trunks). Sadly, the release notes have lied to you.
