Yeah, now I've always had a certain disdain for MMOs. I've always hated the idea of paying monthly for a game you've already bought, no matter how active the community and world are.

However. . .

I have recently (see: a few hours ago) come across a game called Firefall. It's an MMO FPS/TPS that's being released officially in December and I have to say, it looks bloody good. The world is vibrant and deeply detailed, which is a real departure from most of the more recent shooters, that are all painted in the same smatterings of gray-brown. The graphical presentation is really, really highly polished, something that I never figured an MMO to properly achieve, and the guns and abilities really look and sound like they'd feel really great. And it's free to play.

In short, I've been won over.

So Escapists, what games/communities have you always been prejudiced towards, that have sucked you into liking them?

Cricket.

Don't like sports, don't like physical activity. But I watched some cricket and, after developing an understanding of the rules, I found myself enjoying it.

It's weird how proud you feel when your team does well, even though you share nothing but the dirt you were born on.

...Nothing yet, but Recettear is still stuck on my mind, even though I hate simulations of everything from flying planes to playing sport to running a business. Then again, the JRPG bits and presentation (as well as how many people told me to pull my head out of the sand and just play the freaking game) are probably enough to change my mind. And the $20 price tag changes it right back, like the world's least interesting tennis match...

Oh, yeah, Plants vs. Zombies: my dad bought it while we were out looking for something else, and I decided to give it a look. Never finished it, but it's a pretty good game, and a good convincer of people who think casual games are ruining the industry.

Bloody Facebook... *sigh* It's a great way to meet new people they said. Well I haven't noticed anything like that. Luckily it doesn't swallow up the majority of my time either, so it's not that bad.

I've always hated the hype towards the Halo series, and found from watching videos and the such-like that the games receive far too much credit over other less well-known games.

However, they are a lot of fun to play, especially with friends. I can spend hours at a friend's place playing through them, and not have any real criticism towards them.

I still maintain that they shouldn't be praised as they have been, and other games with more unique elements need to be acknowledged, but they are really enjoyable to play.

It used to be Fps's in my younger days, where i would happily smash a contoller over losing a game and just go and waste another £40 quid on a new one.

Facebook. I don't like it, and I don't like what it's trying to do by uniting all corners of the internet. As previously mentioned, I like having separate aliases and I don't want to be restricted to one persona for the sake of Facebook's conquest.

...But until Google+ gets bigger, it's more-or-less vital to my social life.

I used to love FPS games in my younger years. Doom, Quake even the original Duke Nukem.

However, after waiting 12 years for Duke Nukem Forever and not being a big fan of FPS games anymore I was going to skip it but a friend talked me into buying it.

Biggest mistake of my life. 12 years in the making for that pigs nipple of a game.

Why oh why do companies insist on adding "platform" elements into FPS games. Makes me rage. I want to shoot things in the face not play "oh look, lets bounce like Gummi Bears on acid".
