So today a few of my friends where talking about their favorite comics as kids, and basically the conversation shifted to unwarranted shock and awe when I said I've never read a comic book.
If you're interested, I can heartily recommend anything Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, or Frank Miller have ever done. I've just (pretty much) finished the Gaiman's Sandman series. (Only The Wake, Dream Hunters, and the Death books to go.) I'm also getting into Transmetropolitan.
It's not campy Adam West/Silver Age Batman stuff. Or ultra-violence for the sake at looking at things bleed. These guys tell sophisticated stories. (Sandman, in particular, enjoys taking the campy silver age heroes and villains out of their contexts - makes them warped or tragic figures. Er, I guess Alan Moore made Watchmen revolve around that one.)
Comics aren't all men in tights who can't resist puns.
I've never played a pen and paper RPG. I want to, and I have a World of Darkness sourcebook and a copy of MAGE, it's just never happened.
