I was so pissed they closed down the individual imdb boards for shows and movies that I deleted my 7 year old account.
The amount of information and genuine good discussions far outweighed the bad ones.
I never even knew they had a stand alone forum and I rarely watch brand new and popular movies/shows.
Now I'll never set foot there again.

I've found my new haven at TheMovieDB.org which also has individual boards for shows/movies.
All it needs right now are more people, with some fresh ideas to help it become the new place to go for movie info.

Nice. I'll check that one out. I miss the imdb boards.

The second part of that last sentence is the critical one. More people in itself will just lead to another IMDB cluster.

Or dishing out death threats for not knowing how to get past a certain part and not getting into trouble or banning people for discussing opening cinematics to games.
No way. Death threats for not being good enough at a game? Please tell me you're making this up or leaving something essential out.

You think movie boards are bad?
You have obviously never been to an anime board lol (Seriously, go take a look at Myanimelist)
I've never been to one, but I've caught humorous glimpses of it through Gigguk's jokes on youtube, and the fandom's comments that come with his videos usually confirm his jokes about the fandom.

Indeed, that is true, but it goes for everything.
More people will lead to greater chances of both good and bad things happening.
It's all in the setup and framework laid out both before and during.
Since imdb's closing of the boards several new boards have sprung up from it or benefited from it and will hopefully contain or spread out the worst of it.

I think self-congratulation for not being as bad as someone else is kind of missing the point

I think the prize still went to the old Yahoo News comments at the bottom of articles, years ago. So much use of the "n word," whether it had anything to do with black people or not.

Their comment sections is still a toxic cesspool though. Nothing has changed.

The sad part is that often a lot of the user comments are better written and more insightful than the articles themselves.

So I've heard, though I'm really glad I can still discuss movies in a relatively reasonable way on AV-Club's comment sections. Somehow it gels pretty well there.

... Try philosophy boards. On top of fanboys (usually Wittgenstein fanboys), you also get crackpots and blowhards.
Of all people Wittgenstein gets the fanboys?! Oh fuck me... The Tractatus can go suck my nads.
