A humanoid creature that looks like a pale white toddler with reptilian eyes, sharp teeth and an in human amount of hair.
It lives at the deepest parts of caves, living on anything that tries to make the cave its home.
The monsters hair lay throughout the cave reacting to the warmth of another creature killing and dragging it back to the main body.

>It kills by constricting its prey.
>Its hair grows and branches for up to 400 meters.
>the main body spends most of its in a cocoon of its own hair.
>Its intelligence is that of a dog.

Giant centipede. Seriously, a giant ass centipede. And not one of those sissy ones either, I mean the kind with long legs that climb up trees and drop on prey. The kind that can grapple snakes into submission while their armored plates deflect its fangs. The kind whose venom can lead to blisters and full on skin deterioration. Now imagine these giant centipedes crawling on ceilings or on tree branches, the rustling of their many legs making almost imperceptible clicking noises as their antennae scan their surroundings. Suddenly the noises stop, and in the dead silence they dangle their massive body ever downwards, defying gravity as they creep towards your exposed neck...

Or, y'know, giant carnivorous floating jellyfish/pyrosomes that liquify anything that passes through them.

OT: I've been toying with the idea of a singing spider for a while. Something that can conceivably exist in Australia, I suppose, but I haven't checked yet. Basically, it's a breed of spiders that imitate the sounds of other animals, in order to lure them in a trap - mostly birds, but you can see how that can be disturbing.
Well it doesn't imitate other animal noises but there is a spider in Australia that can make noises.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistling_spider
See, I told you Australia wouldn't be above having something like that. After a bit of research (read: trying to find the sound on YouTube) I now know they are also known as Barking Spiders. On the other hand, YouTube is surprisingly reluctant to give me the actual sound.

An immense jellyfish that adapts its refractive index to that of the water around it, contains an incredibly potent toxin, creates an oil spill when killed and knows where all the most popular beaches are.

Spider Kittens.

At first you think "awww look at the cute little kitten" then you go over to pet it and BAM it's a cute faced spindley legged creature of doom and it's eating your arm.

all right, my creation is the boardon, it is a large creature ( about cow size) with the body of a boar dragon like wings and a scaly tail which ends in a scorpion sting, it has armour plating on its forhead. Feading wise it is omniverous, eating whatever is available in it's area so some will feed on purely fruits and vegetables whereas others will exist on meat alone and some eat a mixture of both. It mainly lives in mountainous regions and likes to hoard jewels, it's colourage is based on it's environment eg in a snowy mountain environ it would be white and grey. It is able to achieve flight despite its size by superheating the air around it to create an updraft on which it can glide.

ps. this was what i did for a task in art class where we had to make up an imaginary creature.

My creature is the Ra'shalak (translated from an ancient, long forgotten tongue as 'The Demon Among Us'). It's a shape-shifter, and it's true form (if it has a single 'true' form) has never been observed by anyone who's lived to tell the tale. It prays very specifically on the young, particularly introverts and loners, who's separation from their peers makes them all the more vulnerable. It stalks them silently, sometimes for days at a time, until it has studied their movements and behavioral patterns in exquisite detail. When it strikes, it devours its prey whole, before then assuming their exact appearance and mannerisms, even absorbing their memories, in order to live the life of the child it has just killed.

During this process it feeds, not on the flesh of the child itself (such things are little more than redundant by-products, waste, to the Ra'shalak), but rather the essence of youth itself. As the body it has assimilated matures into adulthood, the Ra'shalak discards it, returning to its true form and going in search of new pray. The Ra'shalak is only ever as old as the body it assumes, meaning that, so long as it doesn't have to wait too long between 'feeds', it has a completely indefinite lifespan. It's elusive nature means few anecdotes are known for certain, but it is rumored that certain Ra'shalak have been praying on the same bloodline, child after child, generation after generation, for over a thousand years.

I've got one.

Pitch black flaming hell hounds, with bright, red eyes, and a constant smirk on their face.

They hunt down and eat the wicked (by that I mean organized crime and the likes) because they crave their dark natures, not because they actually need to feed, and they consume all but their
head and hands, with a number on their head that marks their death count. After every 100 kills, they asexually reproduce a second hell hound and carry on.

They travel in maximum packs of three and migrate through out the world, mercilessly hunting down vile humans.

Did I also mention that they are immortal and that until the vile have perished form the world, they will continue to roam the world?

The first thing I did was try to think of a way to make owls scary (my favorite animal) but then I realized that would just be silly. Owls can't be improved!

So I guess... The Urthlyk! (which I totally just made up!)

The Urthlyk is a form of rapidly growing amoeba. It lives in the forest where it latches on to tree trunks. There it can sit for weeks, slowly adapting the texture and colour of the bark of the tree. Any insects or animals it comes into contact with are stuck, and slowly digested by osmosis. The Urthlyk is capable of engulfing entire trees, and will, if left alone for long enough, form a nervous system like that of more advanced life forms. It's nerve endings will seep into the trichoma of the leaves, which allows it to feel when prey are nearby. At this point, it becomes more aware of it's surroundings and can rapidly extend parts of it's body in a singular spasm towards prey to suck it in. While the Urthlyk can at this point digest an animal the size of a deer in mere days, bones will stay for weeks. Thus, trees that are cursed with a healthy Urthlyk of age end up looking like grisly totems of death.
You, my friend, have some dark horrors living in the depths of your mind. I applaud you.

Hmm... Right, let's see if this sound as good as it did in my head.

The Void. A psionic anomaly, existing on a plane of existance overcrossing ours, but not a true part of it. That is, while the barriers are whole. All cognitive beings does affect this barrier, but only humans so far has the ability to cause disturbances in the psionic veil between planes. If a disturbance large enough occur, then that particular section of the noosphere might tear open, allowing entities that should not exist on our vibration frequency to slip through. One of the most dangerous beings is The Void.

It does not have a shape. Like a black hole, it is only defined by what it sucks out of the enviroment around it. While in motion, it feeds on light and warmth, creating an appearance of an approaching orb of an indescribable nothingness.
It also feeds on the energies of cognitive beings, humans in particular. Once engulfed in the blackness, whatever is thrown back out is nothing but a husk. But it is seldom you see this phenomenom first. It is an ambush predator.

It roots itself into an enviroment, preferably a room or a corridor or some other natural chokepoint, where it lies in wait. Stationary, it needs little nourishment, and thus it cannot be seen.
It doesn't strike out at sudden. It slowly worms itself in though psionic influence, quietly strangling the thoughts of its victims, through horrific and disorienting hallucinations and visions. In less than a minute, a victim's nervous system burns out, and it dies, whereupon the anomaly feeds on the energies sseeping out in peace and quiet.

Research has only been able to ascertain one thing in battling these entities. People with certain cerebral damages or with a moderate mental handicap tend to stand a higher chance of surviving the encounter. It is not known why. The only guaranteed defence is preventative, to remain aware and to stay focused in the psionic maelstrom.

A sudden drop in temperature or light is the only warning you might recieve of this deadly phenomenom.

A race of diplomatic shapeshifters that intentionally pick a shape to insult whoever they're speaking to and sing songs to cast spells.

...

I felt lazy.

Helios is a creature that travels through beams of light. It cannot be detected without special equipment.
Helioses are mainly docile, but when left in a dark area it will attempt to increase light sources by concentrating light on a point.
When encountering a Helios, keep sufficent light always available for it. Otherwise serious material and physical harm may occur.

That's all I've got for now.

A stone Golem that moves at half-a-mile-per-hour. It chooses a target, and chases them until they die. If it catches you, it beats you to death.

If an obstacle arises, it gets around it. It will swim through oceans, break through fences, climb through mountains, etc, in an attempt to get to you as quickly as possible.

It's invulnerable.

It's very easy to avoid, but I'd go insane really, really fast.

An Adapter.

The center is a human torso, but this creature has to ability to grow limbs, heads or weapons like talons, mouths or claws in any way it wishes. Their movement is fluid, and they tick because the bones and joints are in constant change.
