A monster as dark as the shadow it hides in, movin with the shadows, unseen, unheard and yet deadly. No glowing eyes, no real form to speak of but still it lurks, forver waiting, forever hunting.

Abilites.

1. Completely invulnerable, it can not be destroyed or harmed in any way.
It can only exist in the shadows, where there is no light, meaning that you will never directly see it, but rather sense it's presence. The moment you turn on the light, it's gone without a trace.

2. It will continue chasing it's victim until the end of time and it will not let go until the victim is no more.

3. The victim is entirely random. There is no justice, no system, nothing but chance.

3.a. It has to find it's victim as well, meaning it wanders the earth, driven by a compulsive
urge to find "the one". It will not harm anyone but "the one". And it has to manually search for "the one"

4. After it has found "the one", it can teleport near him/her, whenever he/she is surrounded by darkness.

5. It kills by inflicting pain. No phyical contact is necessary, upon being close enough, the victim feels a pain unlike anything else one could ever experience. The agony will render him helpless, unable to move, unable to speak, until he has died of either losing the ability to breathe, his brain deciding to end it or, in the worst case, starvation.

6. Upon the victim's demise, the entity erases the remains completely. It does not feat on them, for it requires no nourishments, it does not feel satisfaction, the only thing it feels it the compulsion to search for the next victim.

The only protection would be to never turn of the lights anywhere ever again, for in every shadow close to you it will wait, and every step into darkness is a step closer to it.
It's presence will be known to you by increasing levels of pain and suffering.
You can not escape, the only way out is death.

There are things creeping in the dark, whispering in the night. But the worst of all are the ones hiding in plain sight. One such creature is known as the Dedek, or "Old Man".

The Dedek is a shapeshifter capable of mimicing human form. It's true form resembles an ipossibly thin, faceless old man with greatly elongated fingers and wisps of long grey hair. Its hollow gape of a mouth is capable of releasing an ear piecing screech. It has a peculiar form of telepathy that allows it to read thoughts and memories as well as maniplate emotions. The creature is incredibly long lived, surviving for centuries, posibly even millenia.

The Dedek feeds on emotions, specifically on the darker ones like misery, hatred and envy. It is a solitary predator that prefers to make its nests in urban and suburban areas. It tends to purchase an old home on the outskirts of a neighborhood before using its powers to sow distrust among the residents, drinking in the negative emotions it helps cause over the course of many decades. Neighborhoods that play home to a Dedek eventually turn into dangerous slums or, in very rare cases, xenophobic gated comunites.

The Dedek dislikes open confrontations and much preffers to run and hide if it's nest is threatened. If cornered, the creature will taunt it's aggresors with their deepest secrets before atempting to strangle them to death. It can only be killed by piercing its heart with oak and then beheading it, though starvation can weaken it greatly.

Okay, that's what I got. Any thoughts?

A creature from a distant star, granted extraordinary strength and resilience due to the mass of its homeworld. It is invulnerable to all human armament, and indeed, to anything not from its forgotten eldritch home. Extremely fast, extremely agile - if it wants to catch you, it will catch you. On top of this, despite its origin, it has the appearance of an everyday human being - you might not even know it is there until it's too late.

Witty Name Here said:
"The Night Thief"

No one knows who it is, what it is, or where it comes from... But all we know is that it's very terrifying, and it's very... Personal with it's victims.
OK, wow! I love the amount of thought that went into that! and it's kid friendly enough for mlp!
That's brilliant!

Also nice bit of writing from that guy who didn't really describe himself, but described how humans in some hellish place adapted in gruesome ways, so that many generations later there's something that belongs there, another monster.

I cannot believe how monstrously this thread has spread over the pages, with all manner of nightmarish, unthinkable protrusions for every sort of prey!

I thus dub this thread

LEVIATHAN!!!

Oh, so many of my ideas can be in this, but I shall only choose one. The one I have been toying with again over the last few days. So without further ado, I present the Moourn.

A Moourn is shaped roughly like a human is, save for the limbs being stretched. A Moourn stands eight and a half feet tall when standing straight up, for they have a habit of hunching over. Their skin is white, not a pale, transparent white, but a blatant almost snow white. The head of a Moourn reflects the beast itself. They are naturally bald, with no hair on them from head to toe. They have no visible ears, yet can respond to sound, and their nose is only the bone bridge structure. Their eyes are always shut, and on sight it seems as if they were sewn shut by hand. Finally their mouths are peeled backwards along their skulls, forming a terrifying grin that, had they any, would stretch from ear to ear.

Their bodies are compact, so that they are able to move through the environment smoothly. Their feet are like those of a human, five toes descending in size from the instep. Their toes are larger than those of a person, for they spend their lives walking on only the ball of the foot, rather than the entire sole. Their left hand has four fingers and a thumb, with the fore finger being the longest and descending in size down the palm. But their right arm is what makes them stand as no merely tall human. For by some manner their entire arm from the elbow down has twisted into a long blade, transitioning from bone to metal down the arm. This is what it uses to hunt.

But its hunting arm is not the most terrifying part of the Moourn, for that is reserved for its howl. The Moourn howl to signal to others around that they are hunting. The best way to describe the howl is a combined howl of a werewolf and a ghoul. It is a guttural noise that chills the body and frightens the heart. The only definitive way to know if a Moourn is near is to spot a light that it casts to "see" what is around it. But it should go without saying that you need to spot the light and move away before the light spots you. Otherwise.....

Actually have an image of a different iteration of it, but I have no idea how to show it.

You are having an average day, and then the doorbell rings. You open the door and find a man standing at the door, hands behind his back, dressed in a solid red buisness suit and with a giant grin on his face. You realize that you recognize his face, but you don't remember who it is. You say hello and ask what he wants, but he ony stares in response. You start to get nervous and you ask again what he wants, and he puts his hands in front of him, showing you knife, and he is still staring at you with that same smile on his face. He then throws the knife at you, and you can feel the wind as it barely misses your head.

You then run inside and lock the door, then run across the house into your bedroom and lock that door as well. You realize that the doors likely will not stop this man, so you look for a weapon, but you can't find any. You then remember that there is a pocket knife in your closet, so you quickly open the closet and grab it. You then turn around only to find that he is already in the room. He is standing in the far corner of the room, hands behind his back again. You realize that you are closer to the door than he is, so you make a run for it, but he is extremely fast and gets there before you. You realize you have no other option and you make a lunge at his stomach with the knife, but he grabs your hand and takes it from you, throwing it across the room. You attempt to break free of his grip on your arm, but he wont budge, and his grip won't loosen one bit. Unable to break free, you turn to face him, and see that he is still smiling. His face still looks familiar, but you still cannot put a name to it. As he stares at you, images enter your mind of him killing all of the people you know, in different brutal ways. You are horrified both by your own situation and the images that have flooded your mind. But then you notice he is no longer smiling, now he looks sad. You open your mouth to scream and

You wake up. Your heart is racing, but it slows down as you realize it was just a dream. You go to the bathroom and grab your toothbrush, but before you can you look in the mirror, and you see him looking back. He was you, his face was familiar because it was yours. You panic, but then you begin to calm yourself again and get ready to start your day. You finish getting ready and you start to walk to the door, but then you stop.

The doorbell just rang.

Wow I feel like I completely butchered the story because of how much I suck at writing. Anyway, this was based heavily on a nightmare I had, and I did realize that he had my face when I looked in the mirror after I woke up, but that second doorbell ring I decided to add on because (I thought) it was a nice touch. Everything else was pretty much an exact description of how it was.

A monster I've been toying with lately is one who can take human form, but cannot enter a home (must be actually a home, not just a house) or touch someone unless invited to do so, and cannot survive the touch of anything blessed, cursed, enchanted, or otherwise magical, or deprivation from conscious humans' blood, fresh from the vein, thrice per lunar month without fail.

Under the terms of their contract signed in blood with a ritual of extreme difficulty and cruelty, dieing results in severe punishment lasting the length they've lived as a monster, which can be a very long time given immunity to age, disease, bleeding, starvation, dehydration, asphyxiation, or suffocation.

In human form, their fitness and senses are limited by the form, but their coordination, reflexes, and intellect are through the roof, reverting to their true form turns them albino, and makes them very bony, as well as increasing their fitness and senses to inhuman levels, sharpening and lengthening all their teeth, and allowing eye contact with them to make the recipient unable to think scream or act, just stand/lie there and stare back in artificial horror.

Interestingly their true form has no heartbeat, bodily fluids, or heat production whatsoever, and is transparent to physical light, preventing reflections or shadows, but most people can see them like ghosts with their third/inner/souls' eye, which through advanced meditation can be opened further to see them through walls, but keeping it that open requires constant effort.

An ostensibly man shaped creture with an aversion to blood, which forces it to satisfy its murderous desires with sterile precision.
