Thinking about giving Mass Effect another go(first time I didn't like it).

First time I played ME was on the 360 and I really didn't think much of it. I played it for an hour and gave it back to my cousin(I borrowed it). But people keep talking about the series and it seems like it might've been a good game if I had given it a little more time. I had this problem with HL2, beginning sucked but as I carried on it kept getting better.

Should I give it another go? Or is it pretty much the same from beginning to end(ie, I probably still won't like it and should avoid it). It's on sale for Steam, so I'll just pick it up on there.

Well if you only played it for an hour you didn't really give it much of a chance. I say you should give it another go, because it's a great game.

Yeah an hour is not nearly enough and I had a similar thing with the ME it took me 3 or 4 tries within 6 months to get into it and now I'm loving it.

Give it another go, and try to sink ~6 hours into it. The game doesn't start the best, but it does get better after the Citadel and having set everything up. It's especially fun if you go Biotics and by a decent level are bowling rooms of people over with a combination of your powers.

Even if you don't like the shooting mechanics or feel particularly connected to the characters in ME1 then don't worry because ME2 drastically improves them both and you get a lot more help in the second installment if you played the first (paragon/renegade scorewise and with resources so you don't have to do so much probing).

Something similar happened to me with Knights of the Old Republic. Played it for half an hour and wasn't keen on it, especially the combat, so it got put back onto the shelf. A fe months later, and I picked it back up out of boredom. Fast-forward a few hours, and I was hooked. It now has a proud place among my top 5 games of all time.

Go and play Mass Effect. You won't regret it.

Remember to not do the side missions, they're extremely boring and all are almost exactly the same, if you want the game to keep your interest do just the main story.
Noted, thanks. Can you give me a good idea of what the side missions are?

Handily sorted for you. If you go into your journal (or whatever keeps track of the missions is called), the menu is divided into two tabs, the left tab are the main-plot, and the quests in the right tab are the side-quests. Generally things dealing with the Geth/Reapers/Saren are all main plot.

Most of the side missions are pretty useless, but I'd recommend doing the ones associated with the companion characters. You might want to do the do some of the Cerberus side quests too.

bioware has this tendency...

hell there is a specific mod that is highly downloaded that lets you skip to the end of taris (i've used it once, it's quite handy to skip the "dry" prologue to the game)

OT: I had the same problem with mass effect, but after my second try and giving it more than one hour (once you get past the initial citadel part, it opens up into awesomeness) i was hooked and played the game in less than 2 days, mako and all.

I consider myself rather lucky as I bought ME2 first, I like the story in ME1 but the gameplay is...just...SHIT!

The game is fairly good, yet has some underwhelming parts.

I recently replayed it in full, and the wandering about sections in the Mako, are fun at first but get a bit stale when you want to get things done quickly.

Also the use of the same 6 levels for the sidequests gets kinda old.

Regardless, the plot of the game is nosensical but really enjoyable and engaging, the Voice.

So if you are looking for a good story, with some choices, give it a whirl. Just dont buy the DLC.

The game can take a few hours to get going, but it's great once you really get into the story, get yourself some decent weapons/abilities and start recruiting your alien teammates.

The side missions are repetitive in that they're the same four basic locations recycled with just the cover inside them rearranged, but you only need to do as many or as few of them as you want to, and it's an issue that was fixed completely in the second game.

I'm actually finishing off the second now and it's one of the greatest things ever. But the first isn't that bad either IMO, I liked both games and i don't even play shooters normally(I know it's an RPG but it has heavy shooter elements.)

its funny..I was very "meh" about mass effect when I first played it, though I was also distracted with technical issues as well...when I finished it though,,I was like...that was kind of cool (cant remember if I played dragon age before it..so I was making the ocmparison)

however...when I did play it, and selected my first dialuge option...I was like "holy crap! she spoke!"..didnt see it coming...

then I also thought...femshep..your trying too hard
