Thinking of producing a youtube series

So for my web development course I need to develop a website. I thought to myself about this a bit and figured "why stop at just developing a website, if I need to create content for it why not just go the extra step and produce some content to go along with it?"?

So I'm thinking of producing a video series on youtube (just as a fun project for now). I was thinking of producing a series to criticize and rip apart advertising, marketing, etc. Preferably video ads as they're easier and more fun to criticize (and since I'm a marketing student this kind of feels apropos).

My question to you guys is, how would you feel about a web series like that? Think of something similar to Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation, but instead of games it's (for example) the CREST commercials, or something similar? Scripted and thought out as well (naturally of course).

Any opinions? I realize that this is kind of open ended as I don't have a pilot for it yet, but how does the idea sound?

Thanks guys and gals for your thoughts! :)

Well, first of all, to be successfull your series will have to rely more on your charisma than a videogame show for example, because unlike video games, fewer people will be interested in the content you're critisizing beforehand. Then again , provided you do succeed, you'll probably end up doing very well, because unlike movie or game reviewers, there aren't that many people doing what you're planning on doing.

I'd have to agree with Moderated, it would be better if you made at least made one video to kind of test the waters, so to speak. Although I'd say go for it, there are a lot of ads constantly being produced so I can guarantee that you would never run out of things to criticize.

You can make the best video in the world, and still only get 50 views total. Much of being successful on youtube is luck. Just keep that in mind when you try this.

As for the content, as somebody else said, you'll have to rely on your personality and a good script, which you're not going to get right on the first try. If you really want to do this seriously, you need to be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to it.

Go for it! Sure, your first couple of videos are likely going to suck, but try not to view these early attempts as proof that you are no good, but as invaluable practice with which you hone your skills.

Give us a heads up if you go through with it!

You might want to check out 'A Dose of Buckley' he does stuff similar.
Bear in mind that if you just attack stuff it's not funny. That's why I don't like Yahtzee or Jimquisition sometimes. It isn't funny or interesting if you're just complaining about adverts or stating that they're bad. You have to say why or you seem dumb.

I was also going to say MikeJ's Informercialism on TGWTG... where he even goes as far as testing certain products that are being advertised in the infomercial...

OT: I wouldn't say to do just one video then wait for immediate feedback... I would say to do a few and then see if people are willing to stick around and see it improve... Only doing one and stop because of negative criticism kinda hinders on what you could be fully bringing to the table... I guess that's why I only hate when there's just a pilot episode, but no other episode after the fact... (Are you sure the show SUCKED that bad to not even give it at least one or two more episodes, at least?)

Anyway, make about two or three videos of this series and, if people are willing to continue watching, then continue making them... If you enjoy making them, despite some harsh criticism, then keep doing it while sometimes improving on certain stuff that people are complaining about... That way, those that didn't like the show beforehand would soon be watching to see when the next video will come out...

Thank you very much for the encouragement and help guys :) I'll post up a couple videos once I get through scripting/editing/etc. if the forum rules allow, and I'll definitely check out A Dose of Buckley and MikeJ to see how they do it. It might take a bit as I want this to look as professional and well researched and thought out as possible. Once again, thank you guys :) It's all very much appreciated!
