Okay some of the games you people are listing aren't even the third installment...

Sly Cooper 3.
Metal Gear Solid 3.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Burnout 3 and Sly Cooper 3 are the only two.

Burnout 3 doesn't count because that's not the conclusion to a trilogy though.

But for the most part the trilogy rule holds.
Jak 3, not as good as Jak 2 (Or Jak and Daxter)
Ratchet and Clank 3, Sucked shit
Prince of Persia: Two Thrones, was the worst of those. (to me anyway)
The Godfather 3, why god why?
Return of the Jedi, you've got to be kidding me
Return of the King, I don't care what you say Two Towers was better

Now that I think about Toy Story 3 was the best Toy Story movie.

I honestly thought Saints Row 3 was a massive improvement over Saints Row 2. And number 2 was already brilliant. The main story was full of interesting/funny stuff that I never would have predicted.

Brutes, Tron like level, zombies, mid air sky dive combat, sci fi police and, oh yeah, BURT FUCKING REYNOLDS.

Yahtzee seemed to gloss over all that and say it was basically just the same but not as good. Silly Yahtzee.

That's just Yathzee being his old crazy self.

"Sonic 3" was much better than the first "Sonic" (although slightly weaker than "Sonic 2") and basically the first half of a wider game culminated in the lock-on "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" (best "Sonic" game, IMO).

"Super Metroid"...I haven't played it, but I think it's one of the most critically acclaimed games of all-time.

"Donkey Kong Country 3". I've never understood why so many people think it's the weakest game in the series, when I'd argue that it's equal to the first "DKC".

Gears of War 3
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Fallout 3 (Post-Broken Steel)
Sonic 3
Super Mario Bros. 3
Modern Warfare 3...THIS is how you end a series, Bioware!
MGS 3 (verbose and self-righteous but still objectively excellent)
Super Metroid
God of War 3
Quake 3
DOA 3
Final Doom (technically the third direct-sequel)
Link to the Past

That's my quick and dirty list, with some caveats as mentioned. Objectively thought I cannot argue any of these games, in any practical and logical sense, are bad. They had some flaws but all of them came out either as good or better than their predecessors.

OFF-TOPIC ASIDE:
Modern Warfare 3 deserves special mention. When I said, this is how you end a series, I was being completely serious. That game was the perfect capstone for the Modern Warfare franchise and frankly even if it is the last one I would be happy because as much as I love the series the third game gave me ALL the closure, ALL the answers and ALL the satisfaction I would ever need. It was truly superior in every objective way to its predecessors and since I firmly believe Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best FPS games of all time, and number five on my list of best games EVER, that is saying something. Or let me put it another way--until Modern Warfare 3 came out, Super Metroid was number two on my list of all around best games ever made...Modern Warfare 3 bumped it down to four. In my humble opinion, it was THAT good. The ending sequence of that game, when you finally confront that terrorist bastard Makarov, and he finally meets his end was so gratifying and so satisfying and so exciting I literally was on the edge of my seat.

In a way, I hope they just end the Modern Warfare franchise there, because unless the next game gives me blow jobs while also dispensing $100 bills and the box unfolds into a lifesize Jennifer Lawrence sex-robot then nothing they do next would ever be as good as the last mission of that game. The perfect ending to one of my favorite series, and a testament to what happens when you REALLY care enough to give your fans closure.

Gears 3 is the best iteration of the Gears forumla though my enjoyment was tarnished by the legacy of Gears (the overwhelming number of cover based shooters that followed).
And yet, no other shooter has done it better, yet. :p

What was meh about those 2 titles might I ask? :O Been a while since I played streets of rage 3, but played Golden Axe 3 on one of those sega anthology titles and found I still really enjoy it a lot.
Course Golden Axe 2 would still be my overall fav of that series.
Nothing wrong with either game at all really, but they both suffered from being released too late, so they were both missed opportunities more than anything. Streets 3 is probably the most technical and "complete" game in the series but it'll never have the nostalgia and cultural significance of Streets 2 as it fairly missed the boat. (I could have mentioned Shinobi 3 as well - fantastic fluid game, but Revenge of Shinobi is the one everyone everybody instantly associates with the series.)

Golden Axe 3 didn't even get a PAL release AFAIK, it was only years later messing around with emulators that I discovered it existed. I actually really liked the new direction they took, taking it away from medieval swords'n'dragons. Having said that, I felt Axe 2 was a bit of a turkey! Muddy graphics, flagrant palatte-swapping, and that damn "bleugh!" death sound effect... ugh. I'd rather play the original any day.

SNAKE EATERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

That being said, A Link to the Past was great, as was Persona 3, (Though I never got a chance to know it very well, its reputation precedes it) Um...
Quest for Glory Three.... OK, that was admittedly the weakest of the series.
Um, Zenonia 3..?

...No. Not God of War 3. Yes, it was fun in a mass murdering, god slaying kind of way. But overall? No. It did nothing for the Series. Two was barely any add on. The first one was a Greek Tragedy, brilliance in the making. Two and three? Blood lust and gore, no remorse, no character development, no story development, our hero learns nothing from his mistakes. And let's just say, sure. The gods deserved to be brutally slain by a man who really should not have any beef with them at all since the one that actually did him wrong in the first place was Ares, but let's say they did deserve. A fourth one is coming out...Where are they going with this? You killed the gods, you killed some Titans, where the hell are you going from there?

But yeah, I mark that way off any list. What's a good three in a TRILOGY? I would say Ratchet And Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Up your Arsenal is also fun, but that's not part of a trilogy.

Aside from that, I can't bring anything new to the table I don't think.
