Im not a fan of them.
I am one of those people that absolutely loves to have all their controllers match their console, and I always find third party ones to be cheap and ugly. I was wondering if anyone had differing opinions or actually had found a third party controller that improved on the original.

Yah, for the most part I try to avoid them.

Doesn't matter what praise they get, I just feel more comfortable with controllers made by the company that made the system.

I dug the madcats contoller for the Gamecube. I'm not sure if it could considered an improvement overall but it was certainly a little bigger than the origianl and fit my hands better.

I hated that controller because the buttons don't press the same way as the original, therefore even with the larger size(for hands larger than mine) I don't understand how anyone could like it. Bah. Selling your thumbs out for a better grip...

Anyway, I hate htem all. F that!

I haven't played with one controller 3rd party that i've liked. They just don't work as well.

I sure as hell hope you don't mean Microsoft or Sony. Those retards couldn't design a proper D-pad if they stole plans from somebody who knew wtf they were doing.

who the hell uses the D pad for intensive gaming anyway. I've rarely seen it take a major role in any game

Ah some are unique. But for the most part I don't ever need to get another controller. Unless the console didn't come with one.

It depends on who makes it. I just got a Hori Xbox 360 controller and it kicks ass, I've previously purchased Mad Catz controllers that fell apart in less than a month.

The only third party controller I ever got was a wireless PS2 controller made by logitech and it worked incredibly well, but then since it was made by logitech so I wasn't surprised.

Only anybody who gives two shits about their performance in any arcade game. Believe it or not, not all games do not perform in 3 dimensions with analog controls.

I really hate them. They always feel awkward and you can always tell. They're never as good as the real thing. You're better off buying the regular controllers, even with the lower price it's not worth it.

Only go third party for arcade sticks.
ninja'd.

ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.

*CLAP CLAP*

I have a wireless PS2 controller but it's a pile of poop. I only use it because the make controller chords notoriously short and Sony never made a wireless controller so I had to go third party.
And no, I'm not buying a 700 dollar backwards compatible PS3 just so I can play ff7.

I think ugly and cheap is a bit unfair. Perhaps nowadays console manufacturers have their for the most part got their act together, but for a long time this was not the case. I remember envying my brother third party 6 button Megadrive joypad. The official Sega one I'd always turn my nose up at. Even for Street Fighter 2 I'd stick to a 3 button pad (I hit start button alot playing SF2).

And original Playstation joypads had a D Pad that reminded me of the one on the NES...

And the last generation too - remember the duke? - http://http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/XboxOriginalController.jpg

Thought then again, we used to have one of these too, for the Megadrive... http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repository/nes/peripherals/images/bart.jpg

Once you have tried doing a quarter-circle followed by smacking Bart Simpsons head, every joypad that follows will be an improvement.

I had a Logitech wireless controller for my PS2, and I liked it a lot more than the first party controller. It felt a lot more substantial than the Dualshock controllers, and the batteries made it a little bit heavier (which I liked). A lot of the reason I like the 360 controller so much is because it feels similar to that controller.

I avoid third-party anything after all of the screw-ups I had in the past with memory. The controllers may look or feel similar, but I just don't trust the quality of them compared to a first party controller.

Also based on the worst third party N64 controller ever.

I notice that third party controllers tend to be uncomfortable, and of poor quality. I bought one for my original xbox, and it was a lumpy ungainly thing, where half the buttons barely worked and all the triggers were sticky. It was terrible, so I never bought another one.

It was a MadCatz controller btw.

I have one third party controller, for my gamecube, and it's a horrible freak of a thing that people get gimped with if we're playing 4 player, and that's about it. I'd never buy a third party controller, the majority of them suck hard.
