I have a Pelican controller for the GameCube that is shaped like a Snes controller. I love the thing but unfortunately, it's useless for most games due to it's lack of a joystick.

Very similar to this but the Z button is place differently and the control pad is a little different.

Only anybody who gives two shits about their performance in any arcade game. Believe it or not, not all games do not perform in 3 dimensions with analog controls.
care to elaborate on which games..?

All third-party controllers I had for the xbox broke on me, so fuck them.

Although the Madcatz one with turbo was pretty fucking badass.

I used to have this one for my Xbox

Its called the First Person Shooter Master and it made by Radica. The A B X Y buttons are on the grips, all of the buttons/ triggers could be completely remapped to your liking, and you can invert either stick. It took a little getting use to, but i loved it.

I tend to avoid 3rd party controllers and accessories in general because I find that they are cheaply made and often don't work quite as well.

My only still functional controller for my Gamecube is third party. I forget who it's made by, but it's not Nintendo. I also have a third party original XBox controller that, while tiny, is otherwise perfectly usable. On the other hand, I had a third part N64 controller that couldn't be held quite right, and the Z button broke from normal use.

That was an AMAZING controller for the Xbox. Aside from that, the only 3rd party controller I've ever used with any success was for the Dreamcast. It was, all around, a better choice to get a 3rd party controller for Dreamcast. Better feel in your hands, better response, etc., etc.

This was a while back, but that logitech wireless controller for ps2. It worked great, a solid piece of hardware (if you still use ps2 i'd highly recommend it).

I bought three third party controllers, one for the N64, one for the xbox and one for the Gamecube.

The N64 one quickly replaced my official controller because the analog stick on the original simply stopped responding after a few months. The third party one still works.

The xbox controller was great, the buttons were a bit larger and slightly closer together.

My Gamecube third party controller never worked great, but at least the official ones never had any problems.

All third party controllers were a bit larger and heavier than the originals. Which was a huge advantage with the gamecube one since it still hurt my hands but not as much as the original. I still have the N64 and xbox controllers, but the xbox one isn't needed since my games work on the 360.

Recently picked up a third party wii nunchuck for $10. looked just like a nintendo original, but with soft rubber grips. no added weight, no rough buttons or weird shapes, was seemingly perfect. of course, when I got wii resort and hooked up the motion plus, I got the pleasant surprise that the motion plus doesn't pick up third party controllers. it just shows a question mark on the controller connection page. that was a fun discovery.

Raiden IV
Raiden Fighters Aces
Mushihimesama Futari
ESPgaluda II
DeathSmiles (upcoming US release)
Ikaruga
Triggerheart Exelica

Any game on XBLA that didn't originally have analog control (old arcade ports). Fighting games as well, even though arcade sticks are way way preferable to either pad or analog.

I'm not even going into games that are still NTSC-J exclusive.

Edit: Not to mention the original Playstation lacked control sticks altogether, so that broken cross d-pad is absolutely inexcusable

Splitfish Frag [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.181055-The-PS3-mouse-Splitfish-Frag-V2-first-impressions]

It's a PS3 mouse + nunchuck controller and it works wonderfully. They also just released their Pro version with a slightly updated design and wireless with the use of a USB stick.

hmmm well i still fail to see how D pad is worthy, i never use the damn thing and i do perfectly fine on any type of fighting or arcade game i've played thus far, even tho half of those games you mentioned i have never even heard of before, they all sound like off brand japanese foods or something

You must not be trying very hard, or your standards are exceptionally low. Games designed to use 8-way controls do not benefit from analog control, and regardless of personal preference, if you can't even see the importance of controllers having a proper d-pad, then trying to explain it to you is a lost cause. Much to the anger of console developers, who want their consoles to be home to only the latest and greatest in technical wonder, 2 dimensional games with digital controls are still being made, and it is an insult to even have a d-pad on a controller if it's going to be as shitty as the ones on today's consoles. There is a reason things like this exist [http://xboxfreedom.com/xbox-360-mod-dpad/].

That's because I'm of a particular gaming persuasion, and my tastes aren't shared with a majority of America, or indeed the entire western world. This does not reduce their significance. All of these games were designed with 8-way controls in mind, be it a d-pad or an arcade stick.

There was a Camoflage N64 Controller the only one in which after nearly a decade the trigger and R bumper havent broken.
And there was always the rapid fire button which was helpful in those 1337 games of Goldeneye,Perfect Dark, and my favorite Jet Force Gemini.

No, I'm not buying a 700 dollar backwards compatible PS3 just so I can play ff7.
What about buying any PS3 and downloading it off PSN?

On topic. Bought one and it was awful, it had rubber hand grips for "comfort" and it hurt.
