So I was wondering which kind shooter games people like to play, whether its in third person, or in first person perspective. Which do you guys prefer to play and why?

I've always prefer 3rd. I don't like the weird depth perception and no preriferal vision of first.

First Person. More immersive, better control. Plus you don't have to look at some dudes back forever. Only exception: Ghost Recon, but hopefully that's going back to First in some way.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier includes 1st person aiming, but 3rd person view otherwise.

OT: I like to have a variety of games, which means some 3rd and 1st person games. Whichever one I prefer depends on my mood.

All of my favourite shooters are first person (GoldenEye 64, Counterstrike), so that's my answer.

For a pure shooter, first person tends to be better because you don't have to worry about poor camera views (although third person games are getting better). If you start adding any sort of jump puzzles or melee, third person becomes far superior in my opinion.

I prefer 3rd. Mainly because I like to see the body of what I am controlling so I can see if I am in cover or not or what is getting hit. That and rotating the camera to see around corners is always handy even if cheating slightly :D

I always liked third person, personally. I like being able to see my character, and there are a lot more animations for third person games.

Third person ..over the shoulder. It enables me to see Leon's hips swaying as he saunters around villages. Makes me feel like I'm really physically close to him, like maybe he can feel my breath on his neck, or I can smell his hair. Speaking of which, he needs a more revealing alternate costume.

Depends on how they use it. This may be a really straightforward answer, but cover-based combat (army of two, splinter cell, etc) would really suck if we had to STARE at the effing wall, while the hectic run-run-run-shoot-shoot-shoot combat (Halo, Battlefield, CoD) would be far too hard to concentrate on if we couldnt see everything in our vision.

On the topic of this though, I think that sometimes a switch between the two could work nicely. For instance, Mirror's Edge was a nice new running jumping game in first person. Sure, it was poorly executed, but I think it would be a nice concept. Imagine if you were playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band through the eyes of your rocker, hmm?

That's what the E3 stuff looked like. That seems like it might be a bit awkward though.

o_O..

ok..then..

OT:

it depends on the kind of setting, if say, the game in question focuses more on how to get through a level than straight up murdering third person

if i'm going in to kill like a bad-ass first person :D?

I prefer shooters in 1st person then 3rd person over-the-shoulder. Most other genres work in 3rd person but kind of feel like cheating since if you were sneaking you can just peer around a corner without actually looking around.

Don't really care as long as I can see what the fuck's going on.

Lead And Gold : Gangs of the West was a great Over-The-Shoulder shooter.
Team Fortress 2 was a great first person hat simulator / shooter.

that would be a horrible thing to happen!

unless you were human

then "oh baby ;D"

I do like First Person unless the developers did a shitty job of weapon placement (i.e. the knife in Killing Floor is literally right up in your face) but 3rd person is always a fresh breath because it offers something different.
