Grayson Hunt, from Bulletstorm.

He's a juvenile, drunken murder machine who takes great joy is being a juvenile, drunken murder machine. He's a protagonist striped down to exactly what 90% of protagonist are, without the fake facade. That, and he's got some wonderful lines that I just love.

Hey, You wanna make out? Just two gruff military hardened dudes sitting in an elevator snuggling out their woes in a totally hetero way.
Need to get some pads for my ass. Old gal wasn't built for that much abuse.
Here comes Butterdick Jones and his heavenly asshole machine!
I named him Waggleton P. Tallylicker, but I never got the chance to tell him... He will be remembered...
He's my favourite robot pal! Ishi was okay but he wasn't fifty feet tall! It's a pretty cool party, come and see! You can get a robot and come killin' with me.
It's a murder party, starring me!
Look at that, all this exposure to radiation has turned our good general into a giant pussy.
What? What does that even mean? You're gonna kill my dick? I'll kill your dick! How 'bout that, huh?

I'm gonna second Geralt. He realizes that real life situations are complex and not as black and white as some people make them out to be. As a result, we both seem to share a reluctance to get involved in politics, however, I seem to be much better at actually staying out of them than he is. Poor guy.

Last 5 years is probably a bit hard but probably my favourite in that time frame (at least eng version release) is Rintaro Okabe from Steins Gate. This may be cheating however as its a visual novel not a game.

I loved all the characters in that story but Rintaro Okabe was a great main character for me. Able to make me laugh and even share concerns with at least as far as I can with a fictional character.

As for characters that will seriously make me consider getting a game if it features them are :-

Tifa Lockhart - favourite videogame character ever and probably just under Sun Wukong in Journey to the West for favourite character of any medium ever so its an almost certain buy if she is in a game.

Ayane (dead or alive) - Love her design (visual and game) I also love the way she fights and feel very comfortable playing as her.

Siegfried (Soul Calibur) - This guy probably suits my way of fighting more than any other. I just have so much fun playing as him.

Blanka (Street Fighter) - Same as Ayane just love everything about this guy at least in his SF2 version before they started to mess with his design.

Makoto Nanaya (Blazblue) - Really does not suit my style of play at all but just playing as her cheers me up I just cannot not play as her when playing the game it just seems a waste if I pick someone else lol. Soi yeah definitely not made for me in a I am gonna wreck shop kinda way but definitely made for me in a just picking the character makes me feel slightly happier kinda way.

Er yeah I like fighting game characters.

Despite saying all that I tend to look at these characters as ones I really like rather than ones that are made for me.

Out of the 25 characters I've so far acquired in Warframe, Valkyr is definitely my main love, because why would I NOT want to be a an invulnerable lightning berserker who can 1 shot nearly any enemy in the game with energy claws whilst also swinging around the environment like some unholy sci-fi ninja fusion of Spiderman, Wolverine and the Hulk??!!

Also I feel the need to include Rhys from Tales from the Borderlands here... though it's a wonder I don't just say "every Troy Baker character ever. That's me." Again, Rhys is a loser but he THINKS he has it all under control until someone else comes along and shows him that he reeeeeally isn't. Also, he looks up to someone but realises that he probably shouldn't because that person's vitriolic, poisonous and not a good role model. He has a couple of skills so he's not ALL talk and he has the bad habit of saying shit without thinking first and when he plays it silent, it's always a surprise. Also his socks are amazing and socks are often an overlooked part of a gentleman's wardrobe and life is too short for boring socks.

[[ I'd say Handsome Jack buuuuuuuut I don't wanna sound like a Tumblrina because those piss me the hell off. "Oh Jack's not a bad guy, he's just tortured and I'm a jackass and he's a jackass so we're so similar lol!" No joke, I've heard that in actual conversation. ]]

Y'know, now that I'm thinking about it, I'll come back when I have even more PCs ('cuz if I got into characters from movies and books, we'd be here allll friggin' day)
Nice. I'd also have to vote on Rhys being a character I felt somehow weirdly connected with. Also he's a well written character (actually the whole damn cast of Tales is stellar) and I just love the development arc. Kinda reminds me of me in a way because I was kind of an arrogant prick at one point in life and events happened to turn that around and make me less arrogant (still a prick though).

I don't know if I could point to one that's "mah boi" moreso than another character, but BJ Blazkowicz from Wolfenstein: The New Order ranks up there. I can't remember anything about him that I didn't like.
Well, his endless attempts to be grim during inherently silly situations. But that's just amusing more than anything. I really love how that game balances lunacy and seriousness and never takes the Nazis for granted. The only time BJ bugs me is when he fights with J over what it means to be American, because he's arguing from a point of ignorance. But then they drop acid together and become friends so it's okay.

Respect to that. The other day at stop and shop, after I went shopping with my cousin, I gave her 5 dollars and pointed to two elderly women who were sitting at the front entrance of the supermarket. I said I was going to drive around to the front and I would like it if she gave that money to charity. My cousin asked me what was the charity for... I looked at her like she had five heads.

Who cares what the charity is for?! People need help. Although it turned out to be for veterans, so that's cool.

It always helps when there's a good cast and I think Tales def. has the best group out of all their games so far [[ though that could be the Borderlands talking ]] but Rhys is good and relatable; He blew his money on a robot arm, he plays suck up to get attention, he says stupid crap and gets punched in the face for it instead of applauded, there's daydreams of being "the super cool one"

-starts to ramble- Sorry sorry, neither of us need for me to go on but I'm glad someone agrees. Rhys is awesome

Last 5 years huh?

Well, this sadly means I can't say A.B.A. from Guilty Gear.

But atleast Gaige and Orendi can be listed (Orendi is the one in my profile image).
Both are more because of what seems a chaotic playstyle, but requires order to understand.
Though their personalities are a huge plus aswell.

I'd see it as a way to be able to express myself.

I do have one. Not from a game,
Same.

Pretty much all the characters in The West Wing and The Newsroom, you seein' a theme here? *cough*Aaron Sorkin*cough*.
Say what you will about the man, say he's preachy, say he's wrong about certain things, I really don't care (okay, I like the preachy-ness a little), the sarcasm he writes into his characters resonates with me super hard.

I'm a pretty sarcastic asshole to begin with, pad it with a cast of characters that was basically me +1, I can make a cake out of those ingredients. Anytime I need to be sarcastic, which is about three out of every five responses, you got a 90% chance I'm gonna quote one of those shows; the other 10% is TWW or Newsroom inspired.

Outside of gaming? Holo from Spice and Wolf. Hands down.

In gaming? There are a few, but mainly from one series (Senran Kagura) right now. I adore the variance in all the characters' themes/designs. It's an awesome beat-em up. :D

Hikage:

She's always on about being emotionless, but pretty clearly feels things. She's cool, calm, and collected- until she isn't. And she can totally kick your ass.

Homura:

Vivacious, in your face, and always down for a fight...and also meat. She's very much about improving herself and striving to be the best.

Mirai:

Loud and proud...but incredibly insecure, due to bullying she received when she was younger, as well as relating to her bust size. She's an internet novelist/creative sort to boot.

Ehhh...that's surprisingly difficult to answer. Can't think of any one character that felt completely relatable, even (or especially) the self-made characters in games. Perhaps Jade from beyond good and evil. Not entirely sure why yet. There was a character from the original jet set radio that made me think at the time that it could have been me, whatever his name was. Plus Sasha from tales from the borderlands maybe. Also Red from transistor clicked well.

Heyyyy you guys, miss me? I said I'd be back, now with Uncharted 4 under my belt and I'd like to add (yet ANOTHER hooooly crap this makes me sound like I have no life) Troy Baker character, Sam Drake.

Let's see. Older brother to a smart-ass younger sibling? Check. Teach younger sibling how to kick ass and taught them the tools of the trade? Check. For some reason or another is separated from sibling for some odd years leading to estrangement? Check. Still clings to what they had and that outsiders "don't get it" because before, it was just the daring duo with the world in their hands? Check. Has trouble "moving on" and can be very stubborn and doesn't get that things change? Check. Is intensely interested and well-versed in specific knowledge? That should be a given for... anyone really but check. Is the Lady-killer of the duo? Definitely check (though I bet my sister would disagree). And above anything I'd do anything for her, though she can be a witty know-it-all and act like I'm the one that holds everyone back. And sometimes I do - even older brothers can be wrong sometimes.

I had the stupidest cheese-grin on my face playing through Uncharted 4 because every time Nate and Sam would banter, I'd think "yup, my sister and I would say that exact same thing".

[[this could just be me thinking I'm an awesome older sibling, though. 'Cuz I am. Flawed, but awesome]]
