Just looking at the steam installation list, I would agree that this generation is a good one, especially if you are part of that PC gaming crowd that gets all the good stuff. Here's a partial list of stuff I have sitting on my Steam right now, and proof that hey, this generation *doesn't* suck.

Borderlands
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty: Black Ops (COD games on Mez's list? oooooh haters gonna hate!)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Dragon Age
Fall Out 3
Fall Out New Vegas
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Recettear
Portal 1
Portal 2
Left 4 Dead 1
Left 4 Dead 2
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2 (liked both 1 and 2, but 2 flowed better)
Mirror's Edge (if anything, this game has amazing visuals and does something new with movement)
Team Fortress 2 (this alone should prove my point)
Super Meat Boy
Torchlight

While there's been a dump truck load of crap this generation, there's ALWAYS a load of crap in any console/PC game generation. For every Chrono Trigger we all love to remember, there's 10 games that we forgot, for good reason.

PS: How the hell could I forget Minecraft?

It's strange. Maybe it's an effect of the internet, but it seems that the gaming community is so much more AWARE of the generic by-the-numbers games of this generation when every generation had the same stacks of "bland and generic": rip-offs of a popular formula hoping to cash in on whatever the "big thing" currently is, sub-par licensed tie-in games, so on and so on.

Those things have always been there, even we didn't notice them as much.

There are so many good game out this Autumn that I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to sell my kidney or something to pay for it all... :<

This is what I have preordered atm on PC

Arkham City
Sims 3 pets (lol imma girl leave me alone :3)
Skyrim
(Oh I also have Skyward Sword preordered for ma wii.)

I'm currently MASSIVELY enjoying Deus ex and Bastion both of which I'm playing on the 'hardest setting' first time through to get them to last me to october 18 when my next preorders come out :D.

As some who was born in 1982 and gamed since they were like 4 you guys are spoiled believe me. This generation is pretty awesome.

Someone needs to pick up the Arcanum license though.

All generations had their ups and downs.

But this? I'll give you a clue - it's related to the moneymilker virus.

Castle Crashers
Rock of Ages
From Dust
Bastion
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Toy Soldiers (1st was a bit more unique, but 2nd was just plain better)
Super Meat Boy
Battlefield 1943
LIMBO
DeathSpank (Never played the other two, the original was just SOOOO funny!)

I mean, all these games are smaller games featured on XBLA and PSN, and the quality of the SMALL games speaks for the quality of this generation alone. (Of course, LIMBO blew away a lot of games last year...)

We also have the rise of the Zombie genre, starting with Dead Rising for the 360 back in '06, and now we're at Dead Island in 2011. I know L.A. Noire wasn't the best of games, I mean, it was a game about a job and got plain BORING sometimes, but it was a risky title that we're all the better for have played.

And I acknowledge the fact that the PC gamers have better-quality titles most of the time (Coming from a predominantly 360 gamer) but you guys miss out on a lot of excellent experiences. Gears of War, Halo, LittleBigPlanet, God of War, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank: Future, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, MvC, the analog sticks opened up a whole other world. But w/e, you guys got Witcher and Crysis first and I'm all the more jealous.

Redring of death , playstation network crash , wii ( nuff said ) . These problems are bigger than the past problems , yes there are some good games out there , but everything is so generic and stale . But i think this low point is necessary to reach a high point in the near futur.
tehcnical issues that dont affect EVERYONE (people who dont own an xbox, people who didnt connecect their PS3 to the network) dont mean bad games (and how many times did you have to blow on a cartridge?)

oh and the wii is a peice of crap? then dont get one

you know what ELSE was a peice of crap? sega CD, sega 3zx, virtual boy, atari jaguar

OHHH but forgive me for OBVIOUSLY in the past all gaming was a shining beacon of light
