That developers used to build cheats into their games, rather than make third parties insert them with patches :p

I can't remember the last time that konami was actually relevant rather than just a self-referential meme. Seriously, when was the last time they made something that wasn't a music or sports game? My guess would be sometime around the turn of this century.

The Konami code. I know of it, but not from playing games. I think I learned it from family guy. I was only 2 in 1988 :p.

Life Force or Contra, 30 lives which meant the game would be passed no matter how bad I was.

I actually got so good at Life Force I completed it without dying and I still used that code just to see how many lives I could amass.

To me, it means it's time to sound the POSER ALARM.

Because that's not even the Konami Code.

The REAL Konami Code is this:

Press these and then press ENTER on any page of The Escapist and something funny will happen.

Very little. I recognized it as the Konami code (although apparently its not) as its become a meme.

However not owning a NES or SNES, I never actually owned any games that used it. I think the first game I actually used it for was Bioshock Infinite. I actually checked the wikipedia page for the Konami code and its only modern games (Plants vs Zombies, Orange Box) that use it that I actually own. I had a Spectrum, Sega Master System and Amiga during the early years of gaming and it doesn't seem like the Konami code was a thing for them.

I did own a Contra for the ZX Spectrum, not sure if the Konami code worked or not.

Approximately fuck all because that is not the Konami code.

I had to look that one up, but it's the password to fight Mike Tyson in Punch Out, which I did not own as a kid.

You're 1 for 2 Skippy. Wanna try another one and piss even more people off by trying to be an old-school poser? Or we could turn the tables and try to stump you:

Question 1: What does the code ABYXABYXABABYXXYABYX do and what game does it work on?

Question 2: What is the noclip cheat code for DOOM 1 and what does it mean?

Question 3: What is "The Pretzel" and what function does it serve?

1. OP has the Konami code wrong.... in four places
2. Msanchez has the correct code for the final bout against Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch Out
3. I only know IDCLIP for Inazuma1's question
4. I prefer holding down A when pressing start after dying in Super Mario Brothers

I was not even alive in 1988 but I do know that is a reference to the konami cheat code. Though as others have said it was done wrong. Unless you were referencing another cheat code and if so, I can't see how that specific piece of trivia means I am a true gamer.

Everything Metal Gear related, aside from that they've been getting rid of all their talent, because they realize (not unlike Capcom) that talent is overrated and that it is better to outsource to shitty companies. It's kinda sad, on ps1 they were this amazing company who made all the best games, everytime you got a new Konami game it was a big deal. Now you mostly expect to be dissapointed, something that started somewhere after the release of Silent Hill 3.

It's the oft parodied referenced Konami code[footnote]though as other posters have noted, you got it wrong[/footnote], the most well known gaming meme that doesn't involve cake.

And no, not all of us were born before 1988, however that shouldn't really deprive us of our "true gamer" status if you ask me.
