This is a true gamer test if you were playing video games since at least 1988.

I'm not sure that that's a particularly great test seeing as how the Konami code is so ubiquitous. You don't have to have played a game it was originally used in to know what it is or even maybe some details of what it did in games where it could be used.

Now, I suppose you could go a step farther and talk more about it actually represents to you. That hidden type of secret content that doesn't really exist much in games anymore. Or maybe that piece of knowledge you alone held amongst all of your classmates that you could dole out as you felt appropriate given that there was no internet to just look things up on.

Yeah, dude. I'm only 21. I wasn't even alive in '88, much less gaming.
And not only can I recognise that you mean the Konami Code, I recognise you got it wrong.
It's not a "true gamer test" if it's a well known, oft repeated joke/reference.

Well Konami does make the Castlevania Franchise...
The last good one being Order of Ecclesia in 2008, and now that Iga's gone, we're suffering from Metroidvania poverty.

I'm sorry, but when you write the words "True Gamer" consecutively and you aren't making a sarcastic point, it's time to stop and re-think your life.

Knowing an old cheat code -- incorrectly, I might add -- does not give you gamer cred, let alone give you "true gamer" status. In fact, as so many people have pointed out, the Konami code is so ingrained into gamer culture at this point, you'd have to live under a rock to not know about it. So no, it does not work as a secret handshake of any sort.
