[Edit]
I regret to inform my fellow Escapists that I was somewhat misguided when I created this thread. I have since become better informed on the subject, and I was a part of the discussions between district administrators and students at JFKMCHS last thursday ("last thursday" being relative to the time of this edit). It was all very civilized; both the students and district administrators respected and listened to each other. By that time, my opinion was much more informed and well-thought out. Furthermore, upon learning more about the situation at my school, I lamented the deluge of uninformed opinions or half-assed research others had done. It was not until today I realized that I have been a complete hypocrite.

Sitting in class today, we were going over some of the details of the student movement, the discussions with district administrators, and it's impact on the school, and this thread came up in discussion. It was at that time I remembered my part in this thread, and my less than informed OT. I apologize from the bottom of my heart for any and all incorrect or misleading information I have provided. To my fellow classmates, especially those who are also members of The Escapist, I am so very, very sorry. At the time I posted this, I thought I was helping the student movement. It was not until today that I realized how much damage I had done to the credibility of the students at our school, and how wrong my original understanding of this situation was.

In the future I will try to be better informed BEFORE I post.

Anyhow, this situation has in effect been resolved.
The teacher is returning to teaching at JFK in about two weeks. The students, myself included, are happy to see her return, and harbor no ill will towards the student involved. (Like I said, I was very ill-informed when I posted, and it was wrong of me to target that student, directly or indirectly.)

I'm an aspie too, but the actions carried out by this student are outright ludicrous. Were he my kid, I'd have revoked all of his rights and privileges and probably flog him with a wet noodle. I wish you the best of luck, you have my support.

Sounds like they should sit the kid and the teacher down with the counselor and hear them out. Just because the kid has Asperger's doesn't mean that the school has the right to to sit on their hands when a teacher feels threatened. Mental condition shouldn't matter: both students and teachers need the school to be in a safe place. It's the school district's job to make sure of that. If they aren't doing that, then they all deserve to be kicked out the door.

EDIT: Hey, looks like they have a Twitter. We could probably use that.

If there's any way I can help out, let me know, yeah? Poor teacher...:/.

Try checking out a local newspaper/news network's website, see if you can submit the story somehow? ><.

If the student has a mental illness, then perhaps he should be moved to a school or get given a teacher that is better suited towards him?

Petition? You have my 'net name on it! I suppourt good man!

Well, I've been in a similar situation as that teacher:
There's a kid at my school who I used to be friends with, who has Asperger's, and he has a really short temper.
On more occasions than I can remember/count, he has threatened me with severe harm, which ended with me getting strangled for a short time, and yet the school won't do anything.
The only time he was punished was when he took 2-and-a-half weeks off school, and that was because his mother made him.
So I fully support your petition, and you're more than welcome to use my IRL name on the petition (Daniel Rosamilia)
Good luck to you all.

The kid should definitely be expelled even if he has a form of autism. His decision to make threats like that can't be tolerated. It is for the safety of many others. This kid should get help immediately though. Have him at least be transferred and then put into a program where he can understand his mental disability. I don't think this teen got much counseling as a young kid. He might of been more comfortable with his condition if he did.

Tell the district to stop being so freakin' stupid, having Ass-burgers is no reason for being an Ass-hole.

Get the kid expelled or transferred, there's no reason he shouldn't be already. If not just because he threatened a teacher, but because he could pose a threat to other students.
They'd really sacrifice the safety of their students and staff to avoid "bad PR"?

Show me a petition and I'll sign it!
I've seen plenty of disrespectful students walk all over good teachers and get away with it, it gets tiring really quickly.

You've got my support.

It is quickly appearing to be the case. JFK Middle College is a bit prestigious in that we are not like other high schools. We are "advertised" as being for mature students...
Keeping students who threaten teachers doesn't seem to fit the "mature students" label.
If that's the case, you'd think they'd want to be rid of students who give them a bad image.

If this is truly the case and the school cares about image, then don't let this issue drop. Keep it alive and hanging over the school's head until they do something about it.

Slippery slope with this stuff.

You expel a kid with mental issues over a threat... And then no ones safe. When do you think that little girl who hates another little girl is gonna decide to say she was threatened?

I don't agree with how the handled the situation (No one neither a student nor a teacher should feel threatened.), and to just give the kid a slap on the wrist isn't correcting anything... But like I said.

Where does it all end? We're coming to a point in time where everything needs hard fact. (IE this kids death threat on a piece of paper he wrote in front of a notary.)

It's all becoming a bit ridiculous.

So you think things like bomb and death threats aren't serious? This guy laid out his plans. A full grown adult felt so threatened that they will not come to work.

Witnesses are used in our legal system: hard fact is not required. Regardless, no one seems to be disputing what the kid did.

Good luck, I hope the student in question receives his just punishment.
