I have a minor severe case of aspergers and the kid in question has a very severe case.
Does he understand what he did? that threatening anyone with injury or death is not acceptable regardless of any mental conditions you may suffer from. if he did knowingly threaten the teacher then he should be punished just as any other pupil would be. If however he did not understand the consequences and ramifications of his actions he should receive specialist tutoring in social etiquette. To simply let him off the hook because he has a condition is completely opposite to how the justice system works.

EDIT: found a better quality video of the news report:

The question is.....is this threat a legitimate issue or an angry disabled teenager

Honestly i am siding with the district in this matter, the teacher is obviously milking this "bowel shaking fear" of her student....*ahem* disabled student....to avoid going to work, and possibly getting a lawsuit/settlement out of it.

Ive had guns pulled on me by former employees, now im not saying this is a normal thing that happens with me, and yes it did scare the shit out of me, but fuck me if im going to let it keep me from doing my job because some fuckwad got pissy after he cussed out a customer in a lobby FULL of customers.

I guess what im saying is, does this teacher have a justifiable reason to be afraid to attend school with this child, if so get a restraining order which would force this student to avoid contact with the teacher, if not quit being such a pussy and get back to work, there are too many people without jobs for fuckers like her to sit on her ass because she is too scared to do anything about her situation....

GAH im so pissed now...

Asperger's is what we call a gradiated condition. Not everyone who has this problem is like rainman or violent. There are HUGE variations in behavioral anomilies/problems.

It should be rembered though, that this student may or may not have sincerly meant what they said. If I were running the show the student would be suspened until a proper psychological assessment could be conducted. Only with that information and the background of the child can one responsibly govern the outcome of such a situation.

I feel for your teacher BTW. I could never do the job. My time in the army'd see me slap some kid's smart mouth closed sooner or later. (I don't endorse striking kids)

I'm afraid Tankichi's right. I'm an aspie, and I do tend to be a bit of a loner. There's a running joke about aspie conventions. Everyone would stand around all awkward-like and nothing would happen. :p

But anyways, I'm glad to hear that the situation has been resolved, OP. These things are tough on everyone.
