Playstation 4 and get some insanely powerful hardware?
They are pretty much equally powerful. The gap between them is remarkably smaller than the X360 and PS3.
How so? Almost half of the xbone's *GB of RAM is taken up by it's OS straight out of the gate and if you want more technical answers you can check the tech spec review of both systems here.

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/game/3452022/ps4-vs-xbox-one-comparison-review/
There's no way anyone can seriously downplay 1.2 Tflops vs 1.8, the 50% more raw graphical horsepower the PS4 has is fucking huge. Much larger gap between the two new systems than the previous generation, and this is without accounting for OS resources. The RAM situation cannot really be marginalised either.
A Weekgeek didn't seem to agree. That's why I put the link to the current gen specs for them to see and they still replied to my post like they seriously didn't know about the Windows 8 nonsense you and I are talking about while acting like I even mentioned the PS3 anywhere in my first post.

Once I found some time to devote for it, I did actually do more searching about the CPUs.
... Microsoft can't make up the difference in clock speed alone (AMD's GCN seems to top out around 1GHz on 28nm), and based on current leaks it looks like both MS and Sony are running their GPUs at the same 800MHz clock. The result is a 33% reduction in compute power, from 1.84 TFLOPs in the PS4 to 1.23 TFLOPs in the Xbox One.
So yeah, while 50% seems to be exaggerating, the difference is larger than I originally percieved. That was 100% my bad.

For the record though, my purpouse was not to spread misinformation, nor do I hold loyalty to one company over the other. I have 0 plans to buy either console. and the machine I'm using to post this has far superior specs anyway.

The reason why I play devils advocate is that it has become obvious that the whole console war has already been blown out of proportions, and people have become much more interested in the spectacle than actual facts.

Um, there's no way to turn off the random ads that take up a minimum of 20% (and up to 50%) of the screen at all times that an actual application isn't booted up with the CURRENT xBox.

Why are you supposing the new one's going to be lighter on them?

I view this option of getting something from clicking on the ad and viewing the ad is better than having it streaming on your dashboard and you getting nothing for it.

It would be cool if MS went lighter on ads, but I don't think they will.

what's infuriating though is the fact I am paying MS for XBL and that doesn't provide me the advantage of not having a huge ass ad on my dashboard.

Am I wrong or are there no more Halo games and the next closest thing is Destiny... which is coming out on the PS4?
MS still owns Halo, so someone is definitely working on the next installment for Xbone. Maybe the guys who did the last one? I honestly have no idea who, but it is undoubtedly on the way.
Yeah, but Bungie are doing Destiny and it seems very Halo-inspired and I don't think I've heard of new Halo games being developed.
Halo 5 is being made... did you not see the reveal of master chief at E3?

OT:

This is actually a bit old. But it's no less unpleasant to hear about.

That's all you had to say. And as for the console war, if Microsoft hadn't tried to force such anti-consumer changes and the status quo kept mostly the same but with nice upgrades across the big 3, none of us would be doing anything but preparing for new consoles and a selection of hopefully good/great new games to play. For console only lovers, like me, this is a deep issue and it will affect us differently than PC users because they, like yourself, have the machines with the specs and the customizable aspects available to them in exchange for the inconveniences they have. The upside to console used to be plug n play and affordability vs the hassle and complexities of a PC and while that divide has become smaller in recent gens we need to fight to keep it relatively the same and keep companies from screwing us over.

I agree. As long as people do so rationally, and don't make their choices based on emotions and loyalty towards corporations. Don't hate Microsoft or love Sony (same goes for vice versa), hate and love their products/services. Thats a wise consumer.

Nothing surrounding this issue would make me more sad than to see Microsofts console ending up becoming more customer friendly than Sonys, but the huge drama surrounding launch would make people blind enough not to care. That would prove that gamers at large are this huge rageboner/drama driven demographic that care more about the spectacle of a console war than the actual health of the industry. (Which is what I suspect to be true.)

I can see lots of people doing this:

1) Turn on Xbox.

2) Unplug Xbox from TV.

I suppose MS could use the Kinect they've shoved down everyone's throats to see whether people are still in the room, but that would be too Orwellian even for...

A additional step is required.

3) Create dummy to fool Kinect using pillows and old clothes (bonus points if a Guy Fawkes mask is used as the face).
I always imagined people would just cover the camera or face it at a wall.

Alternatively, just find a way so that the kinect is always viewing looping footage of the most vile porn on the Internet.
If they do watch us, we'll know.

Captcha: I'm blessed. What? For not buying one?

Much better post although if you're so interested in actual facts, 50% is not not an exaggeration at all. Do the maths yourself, 1.2 vs 1.8.

Bit of an eye opener, eh? :)

'fraid not. The physical hardware in the box isn't too different in terms of architecture - though the Playstation 4's GPU has a lot more grunt (~50%) and it's RAM is a thing of beauty - but the real difference is the allocation of resources.

See, the Xbone reserves 3gb of it's slower RAM for the OS, and three of it's CPU Cores are each reserved for non-gaming functions - specifically Kinect, the tri-OS management and "background tasks" which I presume is TV, Xbox Live, etc.
The Playstation 4 doesn't reserve any of it's CPU Cores, and only 1gb of it's faster RAM is reserved for OS functions.

So, in terms of the power each game can actually use:
Xbone: 5 CPU Cores, 5gb of GDDR3 RAM and it's GPU.
Playstation 4: 8 CPU Cores, 7gb of GDDR5 RAM and it's ~50% more powerful GPU.

The similarities in hardware mean that this difference isn't theoretical as it was in the Playstation 3 - developers can instantly access this additional power on the PS4 using the same code-base they've established for the Xbone version of their titles.
The hardware similarities and power disparities mean that that disparity is going to be even more apparent and larger than the previous generation - and it's not some small changes, the difference is incredibly large in terms of consoles.

This week in "Internet NerdRage 2013: The Xboneing"...

According to the Internet:

* Xbox One "is going to have advertising in mind", therefore it is nothing but an ad box that will shove ads in your face all day.
* MS filed a patent that allows for achievements as a reward for watching ads, therefore Xbox One will hold your games hostage to ads, not letting you play or do anything until it has verified that you have watched your daily allotment of ads.
* Every time you pick your nose, MS will report that data to every company in the world, who will proceed to bombard you with ads for nose-itch cream. Because ads r evul durr.
* Even though Sony applied for a similar patent, PS4 is perfect in all ways, because it isn't Xbox One.

Does that about cover it?

Xbox One is actually looking more appealing to me. Why? Because it looks like all the nerd-raging, frothy-mouthed teenagers will avoid it, leaving only the rational adults equipped with basic critical-thinking skills. Can't wait!

Actually no. The PS4 has quite a bit more power than the Xbone. But it will only really show with PS4 exclusives, as cross platform titles are designed mostly similar for both consoles so they can run on both.

I have no idea what your USA rant is about and I cant see how the One is not a gaming console, I guess there wont be any games for me to play. I'm still buying it so I guess you just called me a retard.

To any prospective buyers, I can't stress this enough: you are a tool if you purchase this thing
I have to laugh at kneejerk commets like this. Why do you invest so much emotions when this console is not for you? You just come off as really bitter.
I have to laugh at kneejerk comments (there's an "n" in it) like yours.

People invest time and energy into battling the XBox One (even though it isn't for them) because there is a larger position to be considered. If all you believe to be important is whether you are going to buy one or not then you have an incredibly narrow and vapid world view. You're a pitiful, blindly consuming automaton designed to think only about your personal gratification even at the expense of morality.

I'm not going to buy an Xbox One. I don't hate the people that will purchase one. But I do want to stop them from purchasing one. Many of the arguments I've seen for the Xbox One are born out of fanboyism of the highest kind (the kind that forsakes logic and rationality in favor of brand allegiance), the rest are misunderstandings which have come about because Microsoft are not clear about exactly what the console will and won't do.

Nobody should be for supporting personal intrusion on this level, America is a country founded on some of the strongest (and most ridiculous) libertarian principles I've ever known. I choose America here because it is the home of Microsoft and the main market for the Xbox One. However despite the overarching American social and political values this is the region where the Xbox will do well.

If an individual is willing to give up their own personal sovereignty for access to an over-priced and consumer unfriendly product then I will ALWAYS try to show them the error of their decision. I met the XBox One announcement and subsequent online discussion with complete disbelief. Firstly because Microsoft were actually trying to convince people to buy a product designed from the ground up to fuck them and secondly because people actually bought it.

The current console generation (and the last decade I suppose) has been party to so many outrageous policies. Day-one DLC, Online Passes, limited installs for games etc. We've all seen the way the industry has progressed and there has been an endless line of discussion on the subject. What do you think they're going to do now they have the opportunity to perfect the architecture that supports these short-term cash grabs now?

The choice between Xbox One and PS4 is incredibly simple. One is a games console, the other is a piece of shit that has been designed from the ground up to separate gamers and their families from their money.

On the plus side, we've already seen how effective action against these policies can be. Microsoft were forced to pause with their DRM implementation because of the incredibly vocal backlash from gamers. We all saw the pre-order statistics on Amazon and the popularity polls. We as consumers, as a group with definite power, forced Microsoft to stop fucking us up the arse. Anyone who buys a console and fiscally supports Microsoft is supporting those policies. They don't care about opinion, they care about money and as long as they get the money they don't give a shit.

Don't be a retard, buy Sony.
