Did anyone like this? I LOVED it. It was my favorite show ever, and always will be. I used to watch it all the time, and I still have my collection of original trains that my grandad got me. I was shocked when I found out they were actually models, rather than actual trains..

Here's the 1st ever episode:

Every male kid I knew loved that stuff. Trains, firetrucks, machinery, you name it, just around all of them love it.

I don't think I've ever watched the show -- I bet if I did, the faces would've given me nightmares -- but the model trains where you make assemble your own tracks were the greatest way to spend an afternoon.

Thomas the Tank engine and Friends: Series 1 and 2, voiced by Ringo Starr, best show of my early days. The show carried on being great for a while afterwards, but really started to get shitty as things progressed. Then there were animated faces, now it's all CGI. The show is dead.

Why did they have to ruin the best part of my childhood.

However, I still have a signed copy of a small collection of some of the original stories. Somewhere else I have the entire railway collection in a massive book.

*digs around VHS collection* Fuck me... I knew I still had some of them!

I remember as a kid two things (among many): loving trains thanks to TtTE; and the Wrong Trousers (Wallace and Gromit).

Can ya see where I'm going with this?!

Fireman Sam and Postman Pat was more for me.

I dunno, something about the trains having faces just kinda creeped me out as a kid, i guess. Plus in Norway we had horrible dubbed voice acting so that didn't exactly help.

I did, even had wallpaper and bedcovers to go with the respect for that little blue train.

I liked it as a kid. I ate up the toys.
Also: Ringo was the voice of Mr. Conductor.

Loved it, the music alone brings a smile to my face. I think I had a rather snazzy jumper with Thomas on it when I was younger, probably would not be good to wear something like that now.

This. This a thousand times.
After they finished the 26 origional Railway Series stories, and they started making stuff up, the show became crap to me. And less realistic (in the sense of how railways work and such - trains being able to change the points themselves and so on)
The overly pushy morals didn't impress me either, and I grew tired of the constant "confusion and delay!" ctach phrase. I realised this when I was 5 I think.

I don't mind CGI people in it. I do mind CGI everything, the show just looks awful now. My favourite childhood show ruined. [/nostalgia]

I thought it was alright, got a bit out of hand once the Chinese got their hands on it though.

Yes, really.

I might have done, I was 6 when they first aired so I probably would have done, and being called Thomas I got called that at school, but I can't really remember. I remember Portland Bill and Pigeon Street, Bagpuss and Chigley, Tumpton etc but I don't really remember watching that. Odd. I did have a few of the books though.
