I am not completely familiar with the Thor universe but I was wondering:

What was the energy cube thing that Nick Fury shows the scientist after the credits?

HAWKEYE! pretty stoked about that too.

It's
the Tesseract, which is apparently the Marvel Universe's cosmic do-anything MacGuffin.

MovieBob's new column explains it all way better.

What I want to know is
When Thor destroys the bridge at the end, everyone goes on about how big of a deal it is, that Asgard is now cut off from the rest of the cosmos. My question is, why not just rebuild it? Sure it might take a while, but I thought this advanced techno-magical race was good at this sort of thing. Or is this like Warhammer 40k, where they've experienced a technological regression and no longer posess the knowledge to rebuild it?
I know next to nothing about the Thor mythos, so feel free to correct me on this.

Its the Cosmic Cube, a device made my A.I.M which the Red Skull has been trying to get for decades, which is what the Captain America movie is probably gonna be about. And from that information we know Loki wants it, which is probably the main-plot point of the Avengers.
But man, the sheer world-building value in the props from the weapons vault...

That stone tablet with the runes? it references "Those who Sit above in Shadows", elder beings that feed off the energy of the Ragnarok, Thor managed to destroy them (if i remember right) recently in "Thor: Disassemble".

Also, the freaking Orb of Agamotto? Doctor Strange ahoy!

Well the last line in the credits assures us that Thor will be in Avengers. So I guess they'll rebuild the gate, or have your explanation. Or, they won't have an answer and just have Thor in Avengers.
