I'd say one of my worst misteaks in over confidence would be wandering without saving the game for a while into a giant camp thinking my unrelenting force being only at level (FUS') would help keep me and whatever un lucky follower i have at the time (most likely faendal) from getting hammered into the ground. Its funny too watch and see your follower take off into orbit when that club comes down though..haha

Whenever I play Civ 4, I get a massive amount of satisfaction for sitting on top of the scoreboard for the last 3 quarters of recorded history. Somewhere between satisfaction and caution comes doubt. For example, that Malinese civ on the other side of the world is getting pretty close to my score. Maybe I should finish off my nearby opponent and grab a few cities?

I declare war. Only then do I realize that my chief rival managed to create a Defensive pact with my "prey". Next thing I know, my coastal cities are under siege and my navy is gone. It doesn't take long for my score to start sinking.

World of Warcraft. Too many times, I found myself in a raid, doing well against a not-easy boss, and we get it down to less than 5% health. The raid tunnel-visions, we forget some mechanic or another, annnnd wipe.
This has actually happened a handful of times when running old raids solo. Big pull, run to a boss, get stunned or something, inevitable death. Also, Icecrown Citadel has the Gunship encounter, and I don't care how hardcore you think you are, it takes every ounce of gaming skill you have to survive it alone.

Dead Space 3. I've got access to some seriously supreme weaponry. I still get murdered more than I'd care to admit. I dunno, maybe it's just because I try to stay too calm, while let's players always spaz out whenever more than two enemies are heading towards them.

Hearthstone arena runs. I watch Totalbiscuit all the time, I know this game inside and out! *gets utterly humiliated* Welp, that's gonna happen. Time to not play this game forever!

Skyrim. I handled just about everything that came just fine. It wasn't really super easy, but I got pretty confident. Dragons eventually became easy enough, with a handful of potions. But then I ran into some magic users, and... well, I learned that magic resist potions are a Dovahkiin's best friend.

At the beginning of Morrowind I assumed I could take an old lady in a fist fight...

I was wrong.

I tried to better myself after reloading by taking on a rat. Dramatic music kicks in... rat beats the adventurer.

Remind me why I love that game again?
This happened to me in Fallout 3! I got out of the Vault and intsantly went to explore. I found an area with some ants...

WHAT THE FUCK!? Giant ants that breathe fire and somehow are highly resistant to my 1 shitty pistol with low ammo!? How is this fair? Also... they swarm and move really fast!

I died SO much!

Well at least you got to die in slow motion and to radioactive super ants. I don't think that a rat is a genuine enemy to defeat me. However, I guess I am making assumptions about rats in the Elder Scrolls universe. It isn't our universe, so perhaps they are greatly feared in Morrowind for their prowess in battle and to compare them with rats of our world is doing them a disservice.

Lesson learned: never judge a book by its cover... and never punch a racist old lady.

In multiplayer games I'll be overconfident at the start which can lead to many frustrating deaths. Strangely enough the higher a kill (or score, depends on the game) streak I'm on the more I will panic and underestimate my own abilities.

All the time in Dark Souls. I think to myself "Yeah I've beaten this game 10 times, no need to be careful with the 500k souls I currently have" and then whoops fall off a cliff, then die to a pinwheel skeleton when I try to retrieve them.
This time's a million

Just running to Nito's tomb and playing as a dex character would dodge roll when i should of taken the hit and kept running.....

Or when you just want 1 or two more hits on a boss before you kinda realise your in no mands land and about to lose half your health.

Never, ever get overconfident when you play XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within. My last mission was me getting slightly overconfident so I didn't move a low health guy away from danger so my high level Support got sniped from across the map. Nobody had died the entire rest of the playthrough except one shitty Rookie on his first day of battle.

On that day, Humanity received a grim reminder that aliens are fucking bullshit.

Also overconfidence is really bad when I play Legion Commander in DOTA 2. In the words of every LC player in the world at some point in their lives: "SHIT WHY DID I DUEL HIM? FUCK!"

Remember your training young LC, you only ult people who are on 100HP or less for cheap Duel stacks.

This happens to me with CS:GO. I'll get one or two kills achieved by playing smart and tactfully. Then I'll run around the corner guns blazing, never thinking for a minute that this was the same behavior that I scored kills on prior. I of course die to well placed head shots over my AK spray and pray.

A number of times when starting up Dragon's Crown as the Amazon. I usually end a gameplay session dominating with her, and that confidence tends to carry over to the next time I decide to continue playing, making me take on major challenges before I've gotten back into the dodge/counter offensive mindset. With the Amazon being a glass cannon character, I usually don't last very long when that happens.

It happened to me sometimes in Skyrim.
I killed dragon without much effort and I felt my character was very powerful.
Then I visited a Dwemer Ruin and found these Chaurus, little bugs and I just stormed them thinking my sword would pass right through their exoskeleton and cut them to pieces.

Well,Chauruses turned out to be much harder creatures than Dragons, who could have thought ?
Maybe it's been a while, but what made these guys so hard? As a pure mage, I'd sometimes have trouble with the very late-game dragons and boss draugr. Yet I don't recall a chaurus ever taking more than a second or two to take down.

I'm thinking this off the top of my head since it's been a while since I played Skyrim, but don't they just do ridiculous amounts of melee damage? I guess their shape might make them awkward to strike with a bow or melee weapon, much like mud crabs in Oblivion before them.

In fact, I'm going to add something here. OT: Mud crabs are stupidly easy in Oblivion, but when I reached some high level (in the 30s) I charged one and got my ass handed to me. I felt quite the fool, and I now understand why guards shout "I've fought mud crabs more fearsome than you".

That would explain it then. They never got near me so they probably never touched me. I always simply threw a fireball or two at them and that would do it.

And that happened to me in Oblivion too with the mud crabs. I laughed pretty hard.

It's been happening recently while I play the Titanfall beta. I get cocky while i'm in a titan and then I die horribly.
