Okay, story time children.

So yesterday was a pretty good day, (at first) the weather was nice, there was a festival in town, and a family get together. To put the cherry on top I got a new phone to replace my old one which was all kinds of broken. I decided to go home on my bike. As I passed the main shopping street one of my friends called my and I didn't look where I was going so I rode straight into a small pit (about a foot across) and flew off my bike into the asphalt. I somehow managed to roll myself onto my back, which resulted in my banging my head into the ground. One of my toes was all cut up and bleeding and my ribs felt as if they had been turned into paste. Eventually with the help of my friend I managed to get home.

So yeah. Has something like this happened to you? When you think you're doing really well, but then some higher entity decides to teach you some humility.

If you're in the UK you might be able to claim something against the council (I'm assuming that this was a pothole). I've not heard of a cyclist claiming for damage but I know that motorists can so maybe there's some precedent.

And I managed to brick my phone a while ago when trying to put a different ROM on it. In fact, I think I've managed to completely brick something expensive at least once a year for the last 5 years.

Yeah stuff like this usually happens to me when I come across a bit of extra money, for example...
Me: work shed loads of overtime and make a nice wedge for myself.
Car: oh you got some extra money? I'll take that! BANG! That'll be one new clutch please.
Me: I'm gunna scrap you one day car
Car: you love me really
Me: it's an abusive relationship

for me the universe has decided im never aloud to get out of the black hole that is my bank accounts overdraft.
every time it looks like i might actually get to the end of the month in the green and maybe set some money aside something expensive happens.

a couple months ago as things were looking up my bike decided to hit that magical milage where everything fails on it (new front fork new wheels new chain new crankset etc) wich set me back near on $400 and it still needs a few more bits...when i have the money for them .

and this month.. as it looked like i might just about break even..the goverment sent me a bill for $450 for collecting my bins...(it hadnt occured to me that i'd have to pay for that every year..)

and as such im really worried about next month as im set to recieve about$1800 in backlogged wages and tax returns... i dont wanna think about what could possibly break to set me back enough to still end up in the red after that..but as i havent been out of the red for the last year im kinda worried.

Yeah, same with me. I'm not actually in overdraft (I poof in and out of it...), and my current debt is literally zero, but I have no assets to show either (I literally own one laptop that's on its last legs and the clothes on my back and a few in the closet. That's it.) and if I want to go into some purchases I desperately need, and have been putting off for a while (new clothes, new glasses, and lastly a new PC), I will need to go into debt...

And yes, every time it looks like I'll be able to set something aside by living a modest, low-maintenance life, boom, something expensively inconvenient happens. And my country's economy is down the gutter.

Why should he be able to claim something? It was his fault for not paying attention, it is not like that hole t-boned him.

Councils have an obligation to maintain roads to a reasonable standard, assuming it was a main road & the pothole was actually that big, they've been neglecting their duty and are responsible for any damages. I guess this is more applicable to cars & damage to suspension but might apply to bikes - I'm not entirely sure.

eh im about $800 in debt at the moment (max overdraft being 1000) but im paid weekly so not to worried its just really hard to claw your way out of the hole when your income monthly is only a couple hundred more than youre expenses (not counting the inconveniant ones you didnt see coming ...)

but yea... living hand to mouth kinda sucks..idont reccomend it :)

(and as a side note..the economy here sucks to..tho it mostly shows in how hard it is to find a job.. im lucky to be getting 25 to 30 hours of work a week)

all too familiar, every time something remotely 'good' happens to me something 'bad' that's equal to or worse is just around the corner...

i get married... i get ASAP orders to my boat where we're supposed to be out for a week... out for a month.

i pass one of the hardest schools and am all packed up and ready to go to my third one to finish my training... week to i get dropped and shipped to fucktard school for bullshit paperwork reasons...

i have a nice 3 days in italy and start to have fun with my crank crew... two days later i'm on a boat to greece to be sent back home...

i've gotten it so bad i'm at the point where something 'nice' happens i'm waiting for the universe to bitchslap me... lik a pavlov response .-.

Well I was on my Duke of Edinburgh expedition a few days ago, and everything went perfectly as planned for the first 2 days, we didn't get lost and we managed our time pretty well. On the last day, our route was blocked in 5 places, we had to day a 8km detour due to tree felling, and someone in our group gave up, leaving me carrying 2 tents and a cooker.

I finally got my exams out of the way and felt like I had done pretty damn well. I'm on holiday, leading into a gap year and have started my novel, am going to start a web comic and have a good part time job.

Then I was dumped, managed to resolve everything with my ex girlfriend only for her to wordlessly through herself at my best friend while I was in the room, and from that day on, I'm pretty sure they've been getting together for a fuck every other day.

Those Times When The Universe Thinks You're Doing Too Well
...for me, that's usually when I've played a flawless mission in a Fire Emblem game, and then an enemy with 10% hit chance and 4% crit chance decides to insta-kill one of my best characters.

I don't remember the last day that was going well in the first place... It was, possibly, just over five and a half years ago if not longer, then one day I wake up and the universe is like, "Haha, now you're crippled!" So I guess what I am trying to say if the universe doesn't think I'm doing too well, it just hates me...

I was mowing the lawn last week when i slipped and whacked my knee on a rock, a sizable gash but nothing serious. to add to that the mother of all storms moved in at night and wrecked the place, knocking out power all over the state. the next night the storm came back for round two packing straight line winds, the ground was so saturated with water from the first storm it couldn't hold the trees down in my neighborhood. A lot of trees were ripped wholesale out of the ground. we didn't get power back till this Wednesday thanks to that storm.

I went out last night for fancy dress, with a costume I made myself that I personally think looked fantastic. I was going with only two people, but they happened to be my rather attractive friend and her rather attractive sister, who were both dressed rather attractively. The night was great, our costumes got us a lot of good attention, I was making friends left right and centre. I even had a very rare manly moment where a guy tried to prove how tough he was in front of my two female friends by punching me in the chest, but I was far too drunk to feel any pain so I grinned, grabbed his hand, shook it vigorously, patted his shoulder and said "Good effort, mate" and walked off feeling like a king. Straight into an unseen pillar.

Thankfully, the punchy bloke didn't see, but I caught at least a few people who were looking over at the commotion giggling to themselves as well as my two female friends, who I like to think were looking at me before with eyes full of admiration at my sheer testosterforce, but nope, they were giving me the "What a hilarious little friend whom I feel no lust for". I woke up with a big bruise on my chest, though, but I'll consider that a reminder for getting too cocky...or drunk.

Basically how I've felt since I've earned my Bachelor's.

I've been very unfortunate in finding a suitable job since then and I don't understand why. I've done well in college, I've acquired an internship during school, I paid for my own tuition, was working, and didn't fall into any of the social pitfalls intended to make life hard once you get out of college (debt, drugs, kids, etc.).

I've basically outsmarted life by not making stupid decisions and I feel like I'm being punished for it.

It's strange, but I still feel optimistic and that I'll be able to get through this current setback soon enough.

I don't have that one day thing but rather my life's been going pretty smoothly except for a few broken legs / knee things but I will go out on practical studies (from school) now and I'm really excited! So two months ago I had to go to surgery because "the Universe" had decided to make my own body eat me up from the inside, luckily the surgery was at least a partial success and I can go on the practical studies but I haven't been allowed to work out in 2 months which is somewhat starting to hit my nerves, since I'm one of those overactive types who trains 7 days a week.
Hopefully my recovery will be 100% in a week and a half (I go see the surgeon who tells me what my status is), fingers crossed!

Yeah that's happened to me. I work very hard for three years, get my double honours degree, do fairly well in it too. Now I can't find a job. I graduated last July, the one time I got a job offer my mum had to have an operation and I had to stay home and look after her and the dogs and the house for over a month. Haven't gotten a job offer again since :/ It's been a pain in the arse.

I have a similar theory of OP but mine is over a longer time frame. Basically I have NO stresses in my life and everything is going perfectly to plan EXCEPT dating and girls. I have never been on a date or been with a girl, I had only just kissed my first girl the beginning of 2013.

My theory is that if miraculously I get a girl, something else in my life will fuck up OR if something does fuck up in my life I can look forward to me finding a girl pretty soon thereafter.
