It happens.

You got that final boss on the ropes. His life bar goes down to nil and you've won. But wait? What's this? ANOTHER FRIGGIN FORM?!

You lose. It's game over.

But sometimes games see fit to see you off with a bang. What are the best game over screens/sequences you remember?

Mine would have to be from the underrated classic, "Total Distortion". Check it out:

I always liked the Time Paradox ones in MGS3. I thought that was a clever way of doing it.

I don't get the question.
do you mean the 'you have failed' screens?
In that case any resident evil with the ultimate understatement - You Are Dead
Continue? Y/N
Which kind of defies the fact you are dead.

Slo-mo death in Fallout 3, particularly when you have an awesome, explosive death.

And the war quotes when you fall in CoD4.

I always liked Conker's Bad Fur Day. Doomed to spend eternity as a table leg.

"SNAKE, YOU'VE CREATED A TIME PARADOX!"

Me: O_O ... "HELL YEAH!"

And I have to go with this. It is pretty clever, and actually made me chuckle quite a bit.

My favorite would have to be from Elite Beat agents on the DS where each song has a custom game over screen.

Ah, Conker's Bad Fur Day. It is rare to find a game that would make me guffaw so much!

My favorite has to be from Time Slip for the SNES. The game was sorta like contra, but weirder. You had to go back in time to stop Aliens from killing humanity in the past when their weapons sucked. If you died, you'd get:

Mission Failure

You were never born....

The earth becomes Tiamat II....

I don't get it? Do you mean when something sudden happened so you died?

Cuz' that would be in Castle Crashers, final boss when the chest comes down.

You open the chest and another form comes out. I shat brix

Game over screens? Pff, I like the one in Ninja Gaiden 2? Play that game and you'll see it maaaaaaaaaaany times....

Failing the final strider battle in Half Life 2 Episode 2:

Mission Failed
Dr. Magnusson's misgivings about Gordon Freeman are entirely justified.
