Thoughts on electronic cigarettes

About two months ago, I quit smoking regular cigarettes and switched to "vaping" on electronic cigarettes. I was a half a pack a day smoker for four years.

I know the things aren't approved by the FDA (I'm American, obviously), but the things got me off regular smokes virtually overnight. I haven't seen anyone else using them out in the wild, so I was wondering if there's any vapers on the forums.

For the non-smokers, what would you think about people using these in public vice normal smokes? They don't produce any odor or contain any known carcinogens; they vaporize a water-based solution that contains food additives (to help turn it into a vapor), flavoring, and nicotine. To others, all they see is the water vapor being exhaled (which does look like smoke at first glance).

Thoughts?

As long as I don't get sick and die from these things, I don't really care. I'm a non-smoker ,by the way.

I think they're cool... as long as I'm not breathing in chemicals because other people have a nasty habit.

Well as long as it isn't damaging your lungs it gets thumbs up from me.
Its a cigarette, by definition it has to mess up your lungs

They call it an electronic cigarette because you take hits off of it just like a regular smoke. However, there's no tobacco, ergo, no known carcinogens. There's no fire, either. Just a battery, an atomizer (device that heats the liquid), and liquid that has the nicotine in it.

As far as I understand it, electronic cigarettes makes nicotine consumption as dangerous as drinking a cup of coffee to get caffeine.

My oldest brother uses those because he is slowly trying to quit. I think that they are really cool because it is a lot easier on the lungs and it doesn't give off the smell the cigarettes do.

I wish more people would switch to them, as I'm tired of breathing in smoke.

They help people quit and they look classy, so thumbs up from me.

They don't work. I saw a study on them that said that they give you about the ame amount of nicotine as smoking on an unlit cigarette. Also, the "smoke" is more of a mist...like a fog machine. BTW, I smoke away from nonsmokers.

Edit: If it works for you, great. Though, to others, I recommend caring a cinnamon stick around with you. They're a LOT cheaper.

While I'm no scientist, I can say that I definitely get a good amount of nicotine when I vape. I use 24mg of nicotine formulas. Not going to knock legitimate studies, but from my personal experience, I just cannot believe this is correct. It probably is a issue of technique; you have to take longer, slower hits on electronic cigarettes.

As for the mist, its basically the same stuff out of fog machines. A lot of liquids use propylene glycol, which is the same additive used to make liquid turn to fog for special effects (fog machines, etc.).
