I'll get it if it gets a decent discount in the steam holiday sale.
I thought the same thing.

But then Ubisoft decided not to sell it on Steam in the UK .... along with Assassins Creed 3.

So, Ubisoft can officially kiss my arse.

My thoughts so far: I quite like it but it's a lot more "video gamey" than FC2. The stealth is a bit over powered. I think I ultimately preferred the African setting. I like the combat and guns. Facial animations are amazing. Vaas is bonkers in a strage mix between Heart of Darkness and the Joker. All the pirates wear red? Seriously?

I'm enjoying the game overall, but ultimately I preferred the second one by a long shot. The setting in Africa was more interesting in the long run and the game was less of a video game with collectibles, pointless crafting, races, achievements and what not. I also miss the malfunctioning weapons, the malaria, the aggressive enemies and the feeling of being on the back foot all the time. FC2 fought against you every bit of the way whereas FC3 seems to be more interested in letting you go nuts. It's a matter of taste but I prefer the second games approach.

I miss the map of FC2 as well and I wish I had one in FC3 and could turn of the terrible UI and minimap. I miss being able to sleep in the safe houses and watch amazing time lapse footage. That also allowed me to control the time of day.

FC3 is a great game so far, but it's ultimately more shallow and that's noticeable. It lacks the immersion I think FC2 had.

you can find it for as little as 20 bucks in keystores, so it's really a no-brainer.

things that i want:
-optional (!) weapon degradation
-the option of fc2 to sleep until a certain time, to like for example plan night time ambushes
-ultrahard mode (whole game is a bit easy)
-hardcore/realism mode with no hud/map location indicator/minimap
-a warfare mp mode similar to that of arma2 (the large open world with it's fixed bases is like MADE for that. prolly not gonna happen though, unless there will be mod tools)

I admittedly first thought this game would be another bland, boring and marginally playable FPS game like any other.

But wow, it keeps sparking my interest more and more. I might even buy it!

It's fun as all Hell. Loving it. I just wish Brody were a bit more of a bullet sponge. I generally suck at aiming, so, yeah.

From what I've seen so far, easily a contender for GOTY.

CAPTCHA: "fezes are cool" - I wonder what the game would be like if everyone wore a fez.

I havnt bought the game, but it looks pretty cool. Its good that stealth can ACTUALLY WORK this time around. Is it possible to hide in bushes this time?

I dont think ill buy it anytime soon though, it still just seems a little dull. ITs probably the samey enviroment (to be fair its a jungle) but some more interesting landmarks wouldnt go amiss :p

I'd like it to freaking arrive, Amazon.

But if it's as fun(ish) as FC2 and as crazy as Vaas seems it should be good.

Yep, the loading screens give out tips and one of them is hiding in bushes brakes the line of sight from enemies. Enemies don't have super X-Ray vision, Bushes actually do hide you which (coming from experience) is really helpful.

And it is, mainly just a jungle, but broken up with cliffs, sandy beaches and the like, i don't know what the terrain is like ont he other island.

The trailer really piqued my interest but, having played previous iterations of the series, I'm curious: have they fixed the enemies ridiculous ability to shoot you from the next town over? That killed the last one I played, for me (which, to be fair, was on the original Xbox.)

Yep, all Fixed, unless you get to close to an enemy camp, they wont shoot. Around there camps, there maybe a patrolling jeep that will open fire on you, but that's about it., You can easily go around the island and not run into anyone shooting at you (however beware of Dogs and Tigers and Bears...Oooh my...)

It certainly has a few flaws, but all of those are canceled out for me by one simple fact: it's the most fun I've had with a game all year.

Sweet that, along with improved fast travel, more mission variety and getting rid of the degradation stuff makes it seem like it fixed most of the problems i had with far cry 2. Oh and animals! Far cry 2 did have some, but not many :p

You can even put Enemy A.I and Animals in the Map Creator, not many mind, but it's a nice touch.

I love it so far, the only complaints i have are the long distances you have to travel for some missions even though sometimes it's even more fun that way and the crafting system, finally i managed to get a better bag that can hold 2 weapons, finding the right animals is mostly based on luck or it could be that i missed something. The only bug i encountered on a PC version so far was a magical broom that cleaned the floor by itself.

For the most part I am liking the game so far, well I have just played a 7 hour stint. The game does however have some issues.

1st the game engine is broken, anyone using an Nvidia card with Dx11, no matter how powerful will find out just how many glitches, stutters and issues their are oh and in game MSAA is plain broken. The game has the worst screen tearing I have ever seen. Most games I can happily play with Vsync off but this game is frankly sickening to look at with vsync off. Saying that though skip the in game settings and use Nvidia control panel to set AA, Vsync etc and the game looks great and runs happily ay 60FPS with everything maxed on my 670GTX.

2nd the game mechanics are a bit meh, the crafting system is clearly an artificial way to stop you becoming an uber warrior, the problem is it doesn't work as you could effectively go out and gain most of the stuff needed to craft all the unlocks right from the word go.

3rd the interface is horrible, the menu is laughable to navigate. Here's an example. You get hints at the side of the screen when unlocks become avaliable. You hit esc and get taken straight to the sub menu but to exit you then have to navigate through several menus to get back to the game, yeah it seems small and stupid but it is stuff like this that hampers the menu system in this game but the really weird thing is, even after several ours of gameplay the menu just feels so unintuitive.

4th set pieces; the on the rails sections so far their have been two maybe three that I've played. I hate them, they break the flow of the game and stand out like a sour thumb in what is meant to be an open world game.
