Odd, I hear the PC gaming market is actually growing at this time!

This surprises me.

Around 2011, I started building my own PC gaming rigs. By that time, a new PC could out perform a PS3 or 360 by a lot. Those consoles had been around a long time.

But now, the XB1 and PS4 pretty much match my PC (HD7970). I?m thinking I can creek by with what I have for another few years before there is really anything that blows the doors off of the new PS4 and XB1 hardware. Sure, quad gtx 980ti will outperform a PS4 but not in the way my 2011/12 build blew away a 2006 PS3. I can wait a couple more years (unless something dies in my current rig).

Yet, at this time, PC gaming is growing.

Cheap options for PC gaming exist. Steam and Humble Bundle alone have made it so that, if I have to beat every game I got from them before I die, I think I?m going to be immortal. But so much of it is either dated (F.E.A.R. 2) or shovel ware or just mediocre.

My best AAA games are still console games. With limited time, I really should focus on them.

What are your thoughts on growing PC popularity?

Im liking this, and I think people are starting to realize that the long term costs of maintaining a computer system that will run efficiently is not nearly as high as people once thought it to be. I chose pc gaming because i liked the idea of playing games at their full maximized graphical goodness, and i fully expect some of these newer titles to do these things, I have never been a big fan of games that came ported from console :\

Many recent popular PC games run on mid-range or low-end systems, meaning people don't have to invest much if any time an/or money in finding/building the right system. They can just use whatever system they bought for work/school/Facebooking. Sure, you still have games that require a bit more power, but with rising developments costs triple A games are becoming more and more risky to make. Basically, we're moving towards an industry were power is less important, where games aren't all about being bigger and prettier.

I love it. I was never interested in the arms race to begin with. My laptop, which is use for gaming, is an absolute joke. Yet there's plenty of games I want to and can play. It's great!

A problem for me. So many PC games, at least early on, are poorly ported consoles games (ie: Batman Arkham Knight). I hear they catch up, but by that time, I have the console version. My issue now: for the most part, PC graphics aren't that much more advanced than the PS4/XB1. This may noticably change in 36 months.
