I just ignored the fan service, it stopped after a couple of episodes and got really serious. Just ignore it for now and you'll be good.
Fanservice. Stopping. In High School of the Dead.

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No but seriously, this is one of the funnier animes out there. I suggest watching it with friends for extra laughs.
Sorry, I probably stopped noticing it since it gets repetitive and easily ignorable lol

Like most all anime's I've seen, the unrealistic boob size/physics really makes me take the story less seriously. It's like adding random boob pictures to Saving Private Ryan. Unnecessary and it takes away from the show, that's pretty stupid to begin with.

Man, you are so right. I think this show effectively quelled what lust I previously had for anime porn by making it commonplace.

LMAO, that is probably one of the best things I've ever read.

I started watching random soft-core hentai, while simultaneously watching The Walking Dead series... didn't need to go back to HSotD.

It served the same purpose and it was a better story to boot.

Seriously though, I got 10 (or was it 7, I couldn't tell) episodes in and it bored the hole off of me. Zombie massacre, gravity defying boob physics, more zombie massacre, really poor character/emotional development scene... boobs and panty shots, fucking cliff hanger. That about sums up the series to the point I said "fuck it, I can fap to something else and NOT hate myself for it".

HOTD had potential to be a phenomenal anime. It had decent music. It has a good set up (not a lot of good anime with zombies). It has great animation quality. The voice actors work for the characters for the most part... but that fucking fanservice.

Don't get me wrong, anime built specifically for fanservice are fine. Fanservice, itself, is okay when done in moderation and on proper characters at proper moments. But HOTD isn't an anime that was built for fanservice. It was built for more of a horror audience, but someone in the writing department (because same fanservice is prevalent in the manga too) thought a zombie apocalypse needed more T&A. So there is so much T&A shoveled into it, it just gets really old really fast. And the worst part is that a lot of it makes me feel more uncomfortable than aroused, to be perfectly honest. Especially when the little girl is introduced. It's like a conflict in interest there.

In short, I like HOTD for the things it does right. But its poor grasp of how to make fanservice work properly to strengthen the anime makes it fall flat on its face.

Yeah man I totally agree with that; its so frustrating that an anime that has so much potential can get ruined by excessive boobs :(

But I sorta let it slide since the guy who made HOTD use to make hentai, but still....

Well I liked how an anime took on the whole zombie route (I think this is the first anime/series that had zombies as a focusing point, but Im sure Im wrong on that)

I sorta liked it for some of the ethical dilemmas the characters got into, but then they just went crazy with the fanservice and I just stopped caring about the "plot" and started to watch it for the lulz.

Like this scene is hilarious XD
Ok, now THAT cracked me up. Are we quite sure those samurai's boobs aren't alive?

EDIT: and jesus, can we say friendly fire? He was centimeters away from shooting her at least twice.

If you can get past the excessive amounts of fanservice then it's a great show...

...if you can't then you won't enjoy the show at all! I don't think there is a single episode with some scene of excessive boob-action goin on...

...but watch the OVA, if for no reason than for the lulz...

I liked it at points (because hey, Zombies), but it was way too oversexualized.

Extremely over the top drama between everyone(though I think that was the point)

Highschool of the dead....what you get when you cross Battle Royale with Resident Evil and maybe a little Deadrising.

I think it's great except for the obsession with boobs so large that they would kill the girl they're attached to.

It's not that there's sex, it's the immature way that they handle sex.

Otherwise, a freaking fantastic show, of which I wish there were far more.

It has stonking great titties, zombies, people killing zombies and enough fanservice to make the entirety of Japan simultaneously ejaculate. What's not to love?

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I hate how so many anime shows try to ham-handedly mix humour and drama. That almost never works.

This show is everything I hate about anime. I can almost understand bland, stupid fun as a selling point to something, but this... this shouldn't count.

I loved the grotesquery of mixing serious themes and graphic violence with really creepy fanservice (like the closeup of a zombie victims panties). To me, it's what sets this show apart from other zombie stories. I've only seen the first few episodes, though. And it was a guilty, guilty pleasure.

I enjoyed it, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't low class. Also, weren't there only like twelve episodes?
