Alright Escapist community. It's been a little over a week now since the demo for Mass Effect 3 came out. Everyone who's interested in the game has probably played the demo by now (if not, then why are you here?), which leads in to my question. What did you guys think of the demo? Was the single player to die for? Was the multiplayer exactly what you expected? Let you're opinion be known!

*Single-Player Demo*
Good demo. Placed me in the right set of mind for what's at stake and what the game is about. The controls are tight and intuitive, everything is so much faster, and I think we're all grateful for the addition of the dodge roll! And running? Oh so much nicer! Feels quick and handles well. All that being said though, I walked away from the demo feeling under-whelmed. Perhaps I had my expectations set to high, but I was anticipating a stronger demo from Bioware. I feel that Bioware should've used a prequel of sorts as the demo, rather than just selecting two random missions from the game. For example, had Bioware used something like their "Arrival" DLC as the demo, I feel like that would've created a greater sense of anticipation from the fan base, and wouldn't have spoiled any of the final product.

*Multiplayer Demo*
Gonna be honest, went into this a little skeptical. But I came out really impressed and pleased with the overall product. The gameplay of Mass Effect holds up really on its own as it turns out! I like how Bioware decided to go with team based objective gameplay rather than competitive. I think that really suits the nature of Mass Effect. I'm excited to see what other maps they come out with, and what other types of objectives they can deliver for this game. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have more ME3 multiplayer demo to play!

I googled this but I can't find anything...

Were the demos different for different platforms? I've heard of the 'huge' spoiler on the mars mission, but I didn't play this on the PC.

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that it's bound to the same key that does half of your actions. So fucking annoying when I just want to take cover but no fuck you DODGE ROLL!!!!!

The only problem for me is the lack of dialogue choices. But i'm mostly sure that it was cut due to spoilers/demo size restraints. I mean, what's a Bioware game without its dialogue?

And I personally don't enjoy going through a demo, buying the full game and then going through the demo bits again when things haven't been added to it.

And somehow I can say for the first time without sarcasm that a Bioware game has good combat. Not "functional" or "average" actually good. *clap clap*

Eh... What Brad Gallaway wrote pretty much sums up my thoughts.

"So, the Mass Effect 3 demo. I hesitate to bring it up, but I can't let it pass without making at least a few brief comments.

First off, I really hope that the game addresses Ashley's radical make over... if the game hadn't told me that's who it was, I never would have recognized her, and I don't mean that in a good way. Secondly, female Krogan head coverings? Really? I mean, they're already commoditized in the story, so that little touch felt like a bit too much. Again, I hope that the game covers this aspect in some detail. Third, the combat. The controls felt kludgey to me, and I actually got bored before the demo ended. I sincerely hope that the game doesn't overdo the corridor shooting. After all, there are a million shooters out on the market already and the combat has never been the main reason I enjoyed ME.

As for the multiplayer... it's multiplayer. I am reserving judgment to see how the final implementation shakes down, but it seems as though there are plenty of opportunities for micro transactions and the content that was shown wasn't compelling to me at all. Of course, I'm not much of a multiplayer person to begin with, so I really hope that BioWare's claim that the campaign doesn't require multiplayer holds true.

After going through both MP and 1P parts of the demo, I think I might have canceled my pre-order if I wasn't already slotted to review. The vibes just don't feel right here, but I feel somewhat obligated since I covered the first two and ME1 is one of my favorite games of all time... I definitely want to see how the trilogy turns out, even if it ends up being a train wreck. Or, it could be awesome. I mean, that is possible. Maybe it's not very likely, but it's still possible."
