Thoughts on New Vegas' DLC?

Fallout: New Vegas, to my knowledge, tried something new in their DLCs, namely having an important part of the narrative get resolved through the DLC instead of the core game. This is unique from other substantial DLCs, like Mass Effect 2's or Fallout 3's, in that the material is directly tied to the main plot, instead of tangentially related side stories that don't need answers (or in the case of Broken Steel, a continuation of the story).

I personally think that, strictly from a storyline/experience perspective, this was a great step forward for DLC.

Yeah, I liked it too. Felt like they were a part of the whole game not just some side-off quest to do. I haven't finished Lonesome Road yet, but my favorite is Old World Blues if only for the characters introduced. They may be a little shallow and undeveloped but are interesting nonetheless.

I really liked the DLCs but Lonesome road in particular was great especially all the business with ED-E which before the DLC was my least favourite companion now he is one of my favourites. The ending was good and I finally go to know my character a bit more. So all in all I really enjoyed it.

I'd agree that the content is deeply tied to the main story. But the vanilla game doesn't feel incomplete without these chapters. Many of these were stories you heard while traveling around the Mojave. Veronica talks about her old mentor, the Legion tiptoes around references to the Burned Man, and Johnson Nash mentions another courier who was shocked to see your name. Old World Blues is one that I can't remember hearing a reference to during the main game. But it is unique in that it ties together the other three DLC chapters.

So I say these expanded on areas of intrigue for New Vegas. They aren't essential to the main story, but they do deepen the experience.

OWB was brilliant, loved it. Lonesome road however, was anticlimactic and despite delays still seemed shallow and rushed. Plus I found a glitch to get duplicates of Ulysses' stuff. When you enter the room, crouch and pull out your antimaterial rifle. Two shots to the head and his body flies into the silo. But if you go to where he was standing, you can still select to loot empty air and grab his stuff :p

I really liked all of the DLC's. Each of them had their own unique strengths and weaknesses but they really did some great things with the Fallout lore, and they are probably my favorite DLC's of any game that I've ever played. I know a lot of people didn't like it but I loved Dead Money, it was my favorite.

So much better than the Fallout 3 DLC. (Except for Point Lookout and Broken Steel. Broken Steel was nice, but I thought Point Lookout was brilliant.)

I'm looking forward to Gun Runners Arsenal as well. I'm a sucker for new weapons.
