The Amazing World of Gumball, despite its flashy colors, loud noises, yelling, and manic antics, is a remarkably brilliant show. The writing is superb, being both surprisingly inventive and frequently subversive, while the animation varies widely in styles, even within the same scene.

So, in short, I love it. It's fantastic. In a lot of ways, it's a contemporary version of Ed, Edd, and Eddy. A cartoon that, on its surface, is made for kids. But underneath that facade lies imaginative writing that has something for almost everyone.

The first two seasons weren't very good. It wasn't until the third season or so, when the writers realized that the show was called The Amazing WORLD of Gumball, that the series really hit its stride. Up until that point, it was generic cartoon family BS that I thought was painfully unfunny. But then it got meta and clever and I started to love it. The unique thing about the show is that it has the right to be meta because that's the whole premise behind the show. It stars a bunch of rejected commercial characters in their own little universe. And it explores every facet of said show. And that's brilliant!

I had the feeling the first season was very careful with everything. So i stopped watching because it was only midly entertaining. Then a friend urged me back into it and season 2 was pretty awesome. Favorite episode is "The Job" where the fabric of the universe unravels because it is threatened by Gumballs father holding a job steady ^^

And the show does have a lot of funny moments in general:

Gumball's my fourth-favorite currently-running non-adult cartoon (after Steven Universe, Star Vs and We Bare Bears). I really like the way the show isn't afraid to just ditch reality completely and go crazy with cartoon lunacy. It's also pretty good at using geek culture for gags (the above TLOU ref, Gumball going Super-Saiyan, the entire "The Comic" episode)...

Like the show, especially the musical episodes, but a lot of the satirical weight is lessoned by it being on modern CN. They already have shows that are parodies or deconstructions. For example, an episode about censorship regimes to make things family friendly doesn't work so well when the next show could very well feature a being of unfathomable darkness possessing the dead and decaying corpse of the main character's mentor or an uncomfortably accurate depiction of senility and its effects on those around it.

All I know is that I don't have time to watch more than one cartoon right now. Which should I pick out of:
Gravity Falls
Gumball
or Steven Universe

AND WHY?

The humor isn't my thing but you can't deny that the show is quality. The beautiful blend between photography, 2D animation, and 3D is mouth watering.

Too bad the network would rather spam Teen Titans GO (your new favorite show!) Than give their other quality shows decent screen time.

Surprisingly subversive humor, good social commentary and satire, really creative sight gags, random silliness that doesn't get in the way of an episode's, or the show's plot, fantastic blend of widely varied artistic styles...

The Amazing World of Gumball is pretty good, it's consistently good too... Granted it's not Hey! Arnold! good, or Rocko's Modern Life level subversive... It's still far better than most of what's presented to kids in the form of cartoons today, and it's better than the majority of ones that came before it too. It's not a blockbuster of prime time, but it's also not stupid gutter tripe like Teen Titans GO!, or lulz random humor with no humor or content like Uncle Grandpa... It's worth watching when you just want to sit down and enjoy a snacky non-serial show.

Like most of the cartoons that are supposed to be "fun for adults", it's good in very short bursts, or as background noise. There are good moments, but I'll let others pan for gold in that riverbed.

It is pretty amazing. I mean, there's a few characters that are annoying as all fuck, but for the most part, I thoroughly enjoy the show.
You want me to send you some good episodes

I think that it is really funny and I really enjoy the different animation techniques. I don't follow it as closely as a lot of the other cartoons that I watch cause there is no need to watch in sequence but I certainly enjoy it.

It's interesting how they layer animation techniques together but to me it felt like an odd amalgamation of Chowder and Flapjack, two shows that I enjoy a lot more. The reason being is Chowder will dance around a joke, Gumball will make passing references as jokes, and Flapjack will shock you with it's Spongebob Season 1 level of horrific design while at the same time making you laugh.

If you like it you like it and that is good.

I like it, their are good and bad episodes. But that's any show. It looks dumb and at times...it is. But it's never been...offensively dumb. At least not to me. I don't know what else to say, it makes me laugh more then most 'adult' shows. So...*shrug*
