where do they stand now, where do you think they're going (in terms of technology or music), how would you feel about replacing RL popstars with vocaloids entirely?

I'm against real musicians being replaced by computers in general but I'm old fashioned.

[sub]And yes, I know many popstars today aren't musicians.[/sub]

I literally don't get it :p
I've tried understanding exactly what the deal with vocaloids is, but I never seem to have read anything that has made me understand exactly what they are about...
I've heard a few vocaloid songs and I was severely underwhelmed. Although I think Paprika possibly used vocaloids for part of its soundtrack, so that's the one vocaloid thing that I've enjoyed.

I actually like some of the vocaloid stuff. I was against it, but then a friend of mine showed me some of it, and I liked it. Sure, I don't have any on my iPod, but I'll listen to it on youtube occasionally. It's not my favorite, but I do like it.

They are the synthetic equivalent of singers that also aren't songwriters. Take "sampling" and go to the next step. Vocaloids are another music medium that is easier to quire, and possibly use than an actual person.

I see having a problem with them as the same as having a problem with synthesizers. People can take any sound and do what they want with it.

Now Vocaloids follow Sturgeon's Law just like every other form of entertainment.

I love 'em. That's either the result of my pro-robot stance coloring my views, or simply the fact that people have made some really good songs with the software.

Vocaloids do not take human beings out of music-making any more than synthesizers take human beings out of orchestras. All they do is give individual musicians more sounds and equipment to work with. The point was never to replace human vocalists.
