Good. Space Marine was a f*cking terrible game. Give the license to someone who can make a decent shooter.
I find it super odd on how much hate that Space Marine actualy got. I really enjoyed it on PC since it was well polished contrary to what people have said, not a shitty port to PC since yknow Runic pretty much ONLY makes PC games and not a bad attempt at 3rd person shooter for a studio that makes RTS game.

Also I have been spending rather alot of money on Games Workshop's Black Library website buying their eBooks, since Space Marine got me hooked.

I'm about half done with the current Horus Heresy novels and loving them.
Also any suggestions on what 40k series to read next since I will run out of HH books to read eventually.
One of the two big series by Dan Abnett is always a good read. I'd choose Eisenhorn over Gaunts ghosts for a start but both series are a lot of fun to read.

OT: Damn, I like THQ and hate to see them struggle. Sure not all their games are great but overall the games they published tended to be decent with a good mix of new ideas here and there.

Darksiders and Metro 2033 were awesome games. I hope this news doesn't foreshadow rush jobs for DS2 and Last Light.

If it's true then there's going to be a lot of unhappy 40K fans out there.

That said, the little i'd heard about it wasn't that promising - going with a two faction set up in the 40K universe was just never going to work in a way that made sense (inasmuch as any of that gloriously over the top setting makes 'sense')

That also said, I'd be surprised if someone else didn't pick it up. On paper at least a 40K MMO is a can't lose proposition. On paper...
Meh. I think their 40k games peaked with Dark Crusade.
I like their games but I don't subscribe to MMOs.
It also seems like Saints Row peaked with SR2.

What I don't understand (and this is meant to be dripping with sarcasm) is that they started implementing online pass with all of their games; Shouldn't have that solved their sales problems? Wasn't that the point of making us punch in stupid little codes with every new game and have content withheld from rentals?

If a once-great publisher has to perish to help put an end to this online pass crap, so be it.

I do remember hearing late last year that THQ had to close down several studios, including the ones who madethe De Blob franchise to foucs on franchise that were multiplatform (ironic as De Blob 2 was muliplatform).
The one thing THQ does more than other publishers is take risks. Homefront was a risk coming up against CoD. While the story was a great premise it was the shortness of the campaign that let it donw.
Space Marine was another risk, coming up against Gears 3. However I found Space Marine quite refreshing compared to Gears and at times the multiplayer was more fun.
I think THQ makes most of its money from the WWE games. Which is a shame.
Yeah, those were Aussie studios, they shut down like 2 weeks before Christmas from memory.

I don't want THQ to go anywhere, they were/are really bloody good.

It's a rumor that the lineup has been cancelled, but considering how man rumors there have been of THQ being in trouble lately, where there's smoke, there's bound to be fire. The lineup may not be cancelled just yet, but they're hurting, especially after that tablet thing was a colossal flop on everything but the Wii[footnote]and that was just poor design; at the price they were asking, I seriously considered buying one until I realized you could only use it with whatever console it was made for. If they had made it a working USB tablet, the way the Rockband and Guitar Hero microphones work as pretty decent USB mics for bedroom studios, they would have picked up a periphery demographic with a lot more money than the children it was actually aimed at. Not to mention the fact that the PS3 and 360 aren't known for being friendly to what amounts to toys for kids. Kid's games that can also be enjoyed by adults, sure. Kid's toys that happen to need a console to work? Not so much.[/footnote]. Long story short: they're hurting, and really are number one on the list of publishers that people expect to fold in 2012.

Slightly off topic, but I find it kind of funny they're moving away from the "kids boxed software" market. Overpriced peripherals, sure. But if the Gameboy Advance and PS2 libraries are anything to go by, shovelware aimed at kids at least used to be the bread and butter they needed to finance the stuff people actually enjoyed.
