Three franchises you'd fund a sequel for - three franchises you'd bury in a dank, dark pit

So, if you won the lottery and could fund a sequel to any game, or resurrect a franchise/series, which three would you go for? Also, which three franchises would you retire and lock away forever?

Resurrect:

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series - The original took a lot of effort to appreciate fully but I was lucky to have three friends with GBAs willing to play through it. The graphics (for the time) were incredibly beautiful, and the soundtrack is still one of my all-time favourites. The series died a death after Crystal Bearers flopped (a game I personally really liked despite its flaws) and I can't see SquareEnix revisiting it anytime soon given their financial issues and how risky the CC games would be, so this is my first choice. Add in online multiplayer and the option to use 3DSs for controller in local play and this would be perfect.

Excite Trucks - Nintendo may not be known for racing games but they have loads of long-dormant franchises just begging to be brought back. Wave Race, Excite Bike, F-Zero, 1080, Diddy Kong Racing etc. may be more popular picks, but my personal fave was Excite Trucks. The stunts, sense of speed, and grading just combined to create a perfect, addictive racer. With more online features and full HD, this would be my ideal racer.

La Pucelle Tactics - Disgaea may have got more attention, but as much as I enjoyed that series La Pucelle has always been my favourite Nippon Ichi strategy RPG. The story was gripping and very emotional, and I'd love to see the characters given a second outing. I felt the battle system had more depth than Disgaea or FF Tactics, and the monster capturing/training was more satisfying.

Almost made the cut: ISS, Wario Land, Baten Kaitos

Bury:

Metal Gear Solid - I've tried so many times to get into Metal Gear, but, aside from the excellent Game Boy Color one, it's never clicked. I don't know why, but I find the series boring as hell. I like playing games, not watching overblown, silly cutscenes for an hour at a time, sandwiching ten minutes of actual gameplay.

Kirby - I love the pink puffball, I really do, but his games have been underwhelming since Kirby Superstar. They're all so easy, boring and safe. There's no innovation going on at all in them, and the only reason Nintendo keep plugging away with his games is to justify his inclusion in Smash Bros. The same thing can be said of Yoshi - the SNES game was absolutely genius, but the sequels weren't fit to lick the shiny red boots of the original.

Call of Duty - Enough already. Activision's policy of yearly releases has killed my excitement for it, just like Tony Hawks and Guitar Hero before it. There's been no great leap in innovation since the first Modern Warfare, Zombie mode is the only reason I picked up Black Ops, and I still haven't even tried the campaign mode yet. I played Ghosts at a friends house and found it incredibly generic, uninteresting rubbish. None of my clan mates are bothering with Advanced Warfare.

Almost made the cut: 'New' Mario Bros series, 3-d Sonic games, Fable

Hmm...

Knights of the Old Republic - I know we got the MMO, but a sequel in the vein of the first two games would be absolutely amazing.

Stubbs the Zombie - Its been a long time since I've played it, but it would be awesome to see Stubbs again on a newer engine. I loved the retro, comical feel of the game.

Blinx the Timesweeper - this was one of the first games I ever played, and to this day it holds a great place in my heart. The second game was even better and I loved the perspective of the pigs.

I honestly can not think of any franchises that need to die other than Fable. I loved the first game, whereas the sequels were so mediocre and easy to a fault. If they could make a game in the vein of the first Fable, then I would say revive it, but since I very much doubt that just let it die already...

I find it funny that people like to lay all the blame on Peter Molyneux for the demise of the series, but I think his main fault was the excessive hype he helped create for each of the games...And well the games have been just as bad when he left, so yeah.

F-Zero: Look, Nintendo, I know that you are busy making one Mario Kart after another, and I'd imagine all the resources going into redoing the same 2D Mario game over and over with just minor changes must be a real drain on resources. But please, stop making excuses about how "there's nothing more to do with F-Zero" and just make another one of these. It's been over 10 years since the last game released. I don't think fans will mind if you just make the same game with different tracks. That's essentially what you've been doing with Mario for the last few years, and all of us still buy those games.

Custom Robo: Again, Nintendo, I don't care if this is a serious improvement over the last game. I just want another game from this franchise.

I guess there is some good news in how I don't have another series to list. The new Star Fox took away the third franchise I often complain about Nintendo forgetting, and while I was sad to see Medal of Honor die, I just don't think EA has the potential to recapture the glory days of the franchise, at least not in their current state.

Bury:

Eh, I don't have anything. If I could get worked about how so many people love a franchise that I don't then I'd probably say Call of Duty, but I really don't want to see it die. I would much rather see it take a break and come back after a few years with some noticeable improvements. I've had way too much fun with the franchise in the past, and I'm not convinced that there still isn't potential in it to offer more fun in the future. The developers just need to take a step back and reevaluate their approach to the series.

Banjo-Kazooie: I hear they were pretty great back in the day so yeah.

Chrono Trigger: CHRONO CROSS NEVER HAPPENED LALALALALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALALALALALALALA

Bury:

Fable: So why is Fable Legends using the IP if it's nothing like the others?

Mass Effect: Starting fresh instead of just living off the shadow from the first trilogy would be better in my opinion.

Call of Duty: It's just a fucking skeleton at this point just make a grave for it already.

Front Mission (might have a sequel on the way, but no sign of one anywhere for at least 3 years, and it might be restricted to Japan again or be another 'Evolve' instead of a game like the original 5)

Secret of Mana (again, closer to the original 3 than recent attempts to make it more like Kingdom Hearts or make it an RTS)

Bury:

Madden (I want to meet the person that the developers are worried might drop the series if the team rosters are not up to date with each year. So I can tag them. Same for NHL.)

Battlefield (because people already said Call of Duty)

World of Warcraft (Admittedly the least deserving of these, I enjoyed it for a while, but I just feel like it's clogging up the market to the point where it's impossible to get any new MMORPG to break away from its model, and either way most don't survive long. From the looks of the latest expansion I might get my wish.)

Bloodrayne - the second game had a pretty sweet physics engine for the time and ragdolls later used in a Predator game so the iconic alien could dismember, disembowl, and crack bones in innumerable ways. Oh and the second game ended on a giant "TO BE CONTINUED".

Legacy of Kain - Hey, I heard that the lead writer lost her last major job. Why not go back to one of her original works and storyboard a new tale for Kain and his possessed weapon? The god of the wheel is defeated, old vampire spirits slain, lets pull a Soulblazer and have Kain rebuild the world post-pillar collapse.

Primal - beautiful game, great voice talent (R.I.P. Andreas Katsulas) and ended on a question mark. Will Jen's boyfriend wake up from his coma, and what would he be if he did? Human? Demon? Both?

Bury: LoL - NUFF SAID

NFL Blitz: I want to bury Madden and replace it with this. This could make Football games be fun again. I mean you could do so much with it since Blitz is basically a parody of football games. Have Blitz in the future with cyborgs and robots. Have them time travel and playing football in the past with cavemen.

F-Zero: I've never actually played an F-zero game but I saw the one on the Gamecube. Looks like a freaking blast and this should be allowed to see the light of day again.

Crash Bandicoot: Made by the original devs, but they tossed out their silly mascot a long time ago and give no shits about anything colorful or light hearted anymore. Just like SuckerPunch.

Bury:
CoD: Need I say it?

Madden: Enough with the biggest scam in gaming history.

- Burnout: I want arcade, I want destruction, I want crash mode, I want my car getting turned into a bunch of gears loosely tied together after hitting a wall at a bazillion miles per hour, and seeing it in slow motion. And no, Need for Speed (even those made by Criterion) is not the same.
- Arcade soccer: I like FIFA as much as the next guy (by the way, FIFA 15 is really nice), but every game released seems to be the same: trying to create the best, most realistic simulation of the sport as possible. I miss games that took the rules of soccer and made something crazy with it. Something in the lines of NBA Jam, but with soccer.
- Freespace: That game was building up to something great, before it failed to sell and the property was tare up and sold as scraps...

Bury:
Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Mass Effect.

Listen, all of those were great games. I played, and loved (differently) each one of them. Yet, I could be entirely happy if the franchises are closed and left as completed. Each time they try to add more and more details, make the story more intricate, or fill up gaps in time, they end up diluting the original work, and making the characters so convoluted that no one can take seriously now... At this point, it is more and more clear that those games were built without so many sequels in mind, so leaving the decision to make more to executives is probably the worst idea you could get. Mass Effect has a special place here, because they haven't reach that point of saturation, but take it as a warning, with all lose threads closed by ME3, and the inevitable 4th game, it could end up there if they don't pull the plug now...

Rez: This is reserved not for my favorite games but my favorite unique games, games with styles that don't really have any representation in the current market.

Mischief Makers - One of the best and most unique and under appreciated platformers out there.

Paper Mario - We really need a new proper Paper Mario. One can only play PM and TTYD so many times. PM has a unique style that is not replicated by any other JRPG out there.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - I want this so bad it hurts. The Stalker series is the only series that ever really achieved the feeling of an endless losing battle against entropy that a survival game should be.

Bury: Reserved for game styles that are so over represented that they choke the market and prevent other styles of games getting released. These don't really need to go away, they just need to become less common so there can be room for other styles.

The WOW MMO model - The idea that you need to play though 60 hours worth of single player content before you can raid is one of the dumbest things in the history of video games.

Modern Military Shooters - Glad to see this one seems to be going out of style all on it's own.

Shitty Mobile games - This is perhaps the worst offender of all. The mobile market, which could support great games, is so choked by crappy cash grabs that it is virtually impossible to sift through them to find the hidden gems. At this point quality mobile games hardly stand a chance simply because they cannot possibly be noticed for all the clones and junk.

Spyro the Dragon - This game series died a slow painful death and then was reanimated in the most humiliating way possible. I'd be glad to see a modern version of this with the classic formula. Updated graphics, bigger levels, etc. would be great

Dino Crisis - The game everybody calls a Resident Evil ripoff with dinosaurs that just so happened to be better than the game it was emulating. Even Dino Crisis 2 did the survival horror to action transition just as well as Resident Evil did, or maybe better. Unfortunately, Capcom fucked this series with a dirty syringe

Crash Bandicoot - This falls under the exact same boat as Spyro, except Crash got to go to sleep quite a bit more peacefully. Still though, seeing some updated Crash games the way they did with WoC would be awesome

Put Em in the Dirt:
Resident Evil - Let the good die young. 6 showed signs of life, but only behind a gargle and a choke. Pull the plug, Capcom.

Killzone - I'm not sure why these still keep being made. One was alright. Two was a bit better. But the games after that had such a sharp decline in quality. Hang up the towel.

Mario Party - Lets be real, the party games aren't what they used to be. The formula keeps changing, and for the worse. They aren't made as consistently as many other Nintendo games but this one certainly deserves its rest

Shining Force -in line with the first two games with updated graphics and gameplay.

Shadow Complex -maybe there is going to be a sequel at some point, but I want one sooner. Easily my favourite metroidvania style game from the previous generation.

Battle for Middle Earth 2 -I want another one! This is my favourite RTS series. Battle Cruisers aint got nothin on Drogoth the Dragon Lord. Honestly, I'm not sure what they could do to improve the series besides updating the graphics and balancing the factions. They could add scenarios/campaigns from the second age with the War of the Ring. They could build a campaign around pushing back Sauron and finally slaying him while still keeping a lot of the maps/settings from the first two games.

Bury:
Besides the blatant cash grabs that are designed specifically to trick people into buying them (lots of shit on Steam like that as well as some mobile games), I wouldn't bury anything. I don't personally like playing the constant iterations of Madden, CoD, etc. However, others really do get a lot of enjoyment out of these games and I wouldn't take that away from them. You could argue that they cause stagnation in the industry but really, if they were removed, something similar would just take their place.

Golden Sun. The GBA games were fantastic and the DS game was also pretty good. Moreover, the DS game did not have a closed ending and seemed to make rather clear that there would be a sequel. 4 years down the line...still nope. Sad.

Metroid. Other M doesn't count. The last good Metroid game came out 7 years ago. The last 2d Metroid came out in 2004 and the last fully original 2d Metroid was in 2001.

No third comes to mind.

Shitty mobile games. A couple nights ago my phone beeped like I got a text and woke me up. It was a Facebook message that someone I haven't spoken to since my sophomore year of high school invited me to play fucking Candy Crush. I know I should have turned my phone off, but still. You should know not to send FB invites at 2 in the morning to people you haven't seen in 7 years.

Most "early access" games. Very few of them are any good. Most won't be finished, and many that are actually finished aren't that much more polished than the glorified tech proof of concept you paid for a year ago. Plus, if it is good, you get bored with it before the final release.

Sonic the Hedgehog. It's crap. It is beyond saving. Time to either let it die or at least put it away for a few years.

Homeworld: Yes I know Gearbox (I think) is making an HD version of these, but I'd like to see more games in the world. Particularly from the people who did Homeworld: Cataclysm. The emotional feel of that game was so awesome, and the ending still chokes me up when I watch it.

Force Unleashed: I don't care when it's set, who the main character is, or what's going on really, I just want more Force flinging fun using that game system. You could set it back in the Old Republic days with an entire new cast and I'd be totally fine with it. Just give me that game mechanic, and waves of trooper type mooks to fling about with casual glee.

Legacy of Kain series: Specifically the stuff around Soul Reaver. That story was really cool, and one of the few times I've actually been interested in playing as a vampire. Though I still consider Razael more of a wraith at that point in the game, no longer a vampire.

And I'm throwing in a 4th because I can do that! You can't stop me! *flexes muscles*

The Mark of Kri series: Awesome game, awesome art design, really fun mechanics. Overall an under-appreciated gem from the old platform.

Bury:

The Final Fantasy franchise: Seriously, it needs to die. It's like pandas at this point, a species on the brink of permanent death, that people desperately try and keep alive out of some feeling of cultural obligation, even though they no longer are capable of sustaining themselves. Let it die with what little dignity it has left, and we can all move on.

Most MMORPG's, though specifically WoW. I'd like to see it die mostly because I find the game really dull now, and have for years, which is why I stopped playing. But also I'd just like to see what it would be like to live in a post-WoW world.

Uh...can't think of a third specifically.
